America really is finished, or at least its ‘intelligensia’. According to Australian Associated Press, as reported in The Guardian: ‘Jacinda Ardern has spoken out against the online “scourge of disinformation” in an address at Harvard University, in which she also won standing ovations for her government’s gun control laws, diversity and decriminalisation of abortion.’ Of course she did.
‘The New Zealand prime minister was honoured by the American university , making the annual commencement address to more than a thousand students on Thursday from the same stage as figures such as Winston Churchill, Angela Merkel, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey (sic).’ Harvard gave the Klaus Schwab protégée an honorary degree into the bargain.
‘Ardern’s address was built around the need for democratic systems and informed debate.’ Do we need to point out that ‘disinformation’ means any line of which the elite disapprove and ‘informed debate’ means material they like?
Fusion is finished too
Nuclear fusion is finished as a technology. There won’t be enough of hydrogen isotope tritium to fuel it writes Amit Katwala in Wired.
The technology was intended to fuel the world, leading us into a new risk-free zero-emissions electric dawn. Now we learn that nuclear fission must provide tritium as a by-product. But the environmentalists hate nuclear fission. They want the power stations closed. Without the isotope, the deuterium-tritium reaction won’t even get started. All the expensive experimental reactors will be white elephants.
Monkey pox: who’s worried?
Why is anyone worried about monkeypox? The only reason for its sudden spread in the West appears to be that we aren’t exposed to pox viruses like we used to be argues David Cox in Wired. Could another reason be compromised immune systems resulting from Covid vaccinations, though? Just asking.
But on the other hand, what were epidemiologists and modellers doing simulating a monkeypox outbreak programmed in for May 2022 back in March 2021? This Nuclear Threat Initiative webpage records them doing just that, ‘partnered with the Munich Security Conference to conduct a tabletop exercise on reducing high-consequence biological threats.’ How did they know?
And is it not just a bit convenient for a World Health Organisation wanting to digitalise everyone’s vax status and rule the world in the next pandemic, asks CJ Hopkins in Off-Guardian? And strangely enough, the NHS has modified its monkeypox page to make it MORE SCARY!
Covid – the truth will out in the end
Michael Curzon in BournbrookMag says the real lesson of ‘Partygate’ is that those in power knew Covid-19 posed no real threat to the fit and healthy. So why did they impose lockdowns and restrictions on the rest of us, he asks?
The authorities in Australia are being very cagey about releasing statistics showing exactly what percentage of people in hospital with Covid-19 are vaccinated, writes Ramesh Thakur in the Aussie Spectator. Finally:
‘The NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report for the week ending 14 May offered the answers I was looking for. In this ‘epidemiological week 19’, there were 570 Covid cases admitted to hospital, 58 in ICU and 90 deaths (Figure 4). Of these, just 30, 34 and 17 per cent, respectively, were unvaccinated (or vaccination status unknown).
‘Conversely, fully 82 per cent of all Covid-related deaths in the state in this week were at least double vaccinated, including 64 per cent who had received boosters.’
He asks of the vaccination programme, and Australia’s paranoid approach in general: ‘Is this what ‘success’ looks like?’
Good news from Davos – or is it?
Olaf Scholz speaking at Davos in May 2022
Olaf Scholz was the only G7 leader to speak at the World Economic Forum’s Davos jamboree this year (May 2022). He said Europe had been struck by a “thunderbolt” from the war in Ukraine. A new “multipolar world” was emerging.
According to the Telegraph, the German Chancellor said: ‘The special phase of globalisation we have experienced in North America and Europe during the last 30 years, with reliable growth, a high level of added value and low inflation is coming to an inevitable end.’
Why might that be? He went on: ‘One reason for this is that the low cost producers of the global south are gradually becoming thriving economies with their own demand, which aspire to the same level of prosperity as we have.’ We have been arguing for ‘Africa First’ for some time now. Godly countries in the continent must establish industry and turn raw materials into product. The era of exporting them to the West and China is coming to an end. Nations are moving ‘Beyond Aid’. Davos has noticed. And as Off-Guardian observes, it doesn’t like it.
‘Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian President, has said Russian bombardments could leave the entire region of Donbas “uninhabited”, accusing the Russians of wanting to reduce its cities to ashes.’ That was even the Telegraph’s own headline. The Russians are trying to liberate these cities from Ukrainian neo-nazis. They are filled with ethnic Russians. Why would they want to reduce them ‘to ashes’? Does anyone believe Mr Zelensky any more? Do our media not even care whether what he says is remotely plausible?
ex-Miss Ukraine with a fake gun
The war will only end, or a cease-fire be agreed, by Ukraine recognising the independence of Donbass and Crimea. Possibly there will be a south-eastern corridor to ensure unhindered movement between the two. However, it will not end until the Americans say it can end. The US and their arms manufacturers had been having too much fun watching the Ukrainians try out their weapons. But there is hope for peace. The Russians have cottoned on. They are starting to destroy those weapons before they arrive. Also, NATO is being slow at providing enough of them, argues the Telegraph’s Con Coughlin.
It was not so long ago, two or three weeks, maybe, when the mainstream media were gleefully celebrating alleged Russian defeats and setbacks. It was only months since they were glorifying Ukrainian models wielding weapons. Not any more. Now the BBC admits: ‘UK PM Boris Johnson says Russian forces continue to “chew through ground” in the region, adding that Putin is making slow but palpable progress.’

The National Trust paid over the odds for Thorneythwaite Farm, separating it from its farmhouse, intending to send this good farmland 'wild'. It's destructive, it's irresponsible.
The National Trust paid over the odds for Thorneythwaite Farm, separating it from its farmhouse, intending to send this good farmland ‘wild’. It’s destructive, it’s irresponsible. We intend to move a Resolution at this year’s AGM condemning ‘re-wilding’ and ‘re-wetting’.
Resolution for National Trust Annual General Meeting 2022
Re-wilding of National Trust Land
‘Be it resolved that this AGM deplores re-wilding or re-wetting of National Trust farmland, or acquisition of farmland for that purpose, especially at this time of food insecurity, and calls on the Trust to re-dedicate its farmland to farming.’
Supporting Statement:
‘There have been too many reports of the Trust buying farmland and promptly re-wilding it, or separating a farmhouse from its land and ‘wilding’ the land. At the 2021 AGM a Trust officer boasted of a re-wetting project. Even then the United Kingdom was said to be importing around half our food. Yet food imported from abroad and processed here, such as tea, counts as ‘UK food’. When that is taken into account, the UK is only some 20-25% food secure. The Russo-Ukraine war on top of the pandemic shipping crisis must serve as a warning about food insecurity and drive us to grow and raise as much of our own food as we can. Re-wilding and re-wetting may be fashionable environmental fads, but they are surely irresponsible. The National Trust should again encourage farming on its farm land.’
Any and every member of the National Trust who has been a member since January 2021 can and should sign the resolution. Download the pdf here: ResolutionsNT22A . Then print it off, sign it, print your name, address and postcode and your National Trust membership number. Then send it to: Christian Voice, Wernlwyd, Pen-y-bont, CARMARTHEN, SA33 6QN, by 25th May 2022. Or scan it and email it to info@ukcv.org We have a NT deadline to meet! Thank you!
Parallel Resolution
The Resolution comes with a parallel Resolution calling for the National Trust to stop participating in Gay Pride events. You can sign both or either. (The PDF above has the Re-wilding Resolution at the top instead of the Gay Pride one, as on the ‘No more Gay Pride’ post .)
The Trust was criticised in the press in 2016 HERE, HERE and HERE for buying up Thorneythwaite sheep farm in the Lake District in order to ‘rewild’ it. Elsewhere, according to Farmers Weekly the Trust’s tenant farmers have complained the Trust is putting what it thinks is ‘the environment’ above food production. It was Mike Innerdale, the Trust’s regional director for the north, who gave the presentation to the 2021 AGM in which he spoke of ‘wetting-up our farmland’ and a ‘drive to net zero’.

Resolution for National Trust Annual General Meeting 2022
Participation in Gay Pride Events
‘Be it resolved that this AGM deplores participation by the National Trust in gay pride parades as divisive and an unaccountable waste of members’ subscriptions.’
Supporting Statement:
The National Trust took part in the Birmingham Gay Pride event in 2019. In a letter to the proposer, the Director General admitted no account was kept of the expenditure nor of any resulting subscription revenue. The participation was unaccountable, divisive and an exercise in virtue signalling. It was unbecoming in a body which should be dedicated to preserving the nation’s heritage for all and being a faithful steward of its members’ subscriptions.
Any and every member of the National Trust who has been a member since January 2021 can and should sign the resolution. Download the pdf here: ResolutionsNT22 – then print it off, sign it, print your name and postcode and your National Trust membership number then send it to: Christian Voice, Wernlwyd, Pen-y-bont, CARMARTHEN, SA33 6QN, by the end of the week. The Resolution comes with a parallel Resolution calling for the National Trust to stop re-wilding farmland. On the re-wilding page the order of the Resolutions is reversed in the PDF download. That’s the only difference. Download from either page.

The UK Prime Minister has refused to rule out another lockdown if a pandemic struck the country.
Boris Johnson went back on his word in an interview with Conservative MPs Esther McVey and Philip Davies on GB News. The prime minister went on to say the government must strike a balance between public health and saving lives. But all the evidence shows lockdown did neither.
Negative effects
Despite acknowledging the negative effects of lockdowns on the country’s mental health, he could not rule out future lockdowns. “I can’t say we wouldn’t be forced to do non-pharmaceutical interventions of the kind we did again,” he said when asked to rule out a future lockdown.
Mr. Johnson promised no more lockdowns in February when laying out his recovery plans. The Independent records the prime minister declaring the steps he was taking were ‘irreversible.’
Boris Johnson speaking in N0 10
The prime minister even revealed that obesity had increased in the UK as a result of lockdown. His reaction was legislation requiring restaurants with more than 250 employees to list calorie counts on their menus.
The Great Barrington Declaration
In October 2020 over 6,000 scientists and health experts joined a global movement calling for an end to lockdown policies, citing “grave concerns.” They added that the approach had a devastating impact on both mental health and society, according to a BBC report published on 7th October 2020.
In a statement now known as the Great Barrington Declaration, the health professionals called for a focus on the protection of the vulnerable, while leaving healthy people to get on with their lives.
The statement, dated 4th October 2020 highlighted the consequences of lockdown such as lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease, and deteriorating mental health. These, said the signatories, could lead to increased mortality and grave injustice for out-of-school students in the future. Currently, there are over 929,000 signatures on the declaration opposing future lockdowns, and the group is seeking more.
Turn to prayer
Thank God that covid-19 infections, admissions and deaths are falling. Praise God for those who have now realised lockdown and restrictions were a tragic mistake. Christian Voice denounced lockdown as ungodly from the start and we were criticised for it, even by some Christians.
We said then and repeat now that no public health problem was ever been solved by putting people out of work, which the Bible describes as a gift of God. Also pray for a change of heart among the Government to rule out ‘non-pharmaceutical interventions’ for ever.
Eccl 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. Isaiah 3:15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

The producers behind the Family Sex Show have announced that their exploitative and potentially abusive production has now been scrapped from theatres. The show will no longer go ahead in Bristol or at the Norwich festival and will only be performed to a ‘selected invited audience’ at Bath.
I just phoned the box office Egg theatre in Bath to see whether or not tickets were available to purchase by members of the general public and staff confirmed that they had been taken off sale.
This is a phenomenal victory and thanks to the almost 39,000 of you who signed our petition.
The producers of the show are unrepentant, claiming that the cancellation is due to illegal threats of violence and abuse from a ‘few extremists’.
Sadly, it seems as though the producers have learned nothing. There was nothing in our campaign that constituted either abuse or violent threats and we hope that any illegality has been duly reported to the police.
39,000 people is not a handful of ‘extremists’ either. This was thousands of ordinary mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and godparents, standing up in defence of children.
The show was never about educating children, but prematurely sexualising them. Children were being subjected to full-frontal adult nudity without their consent and introduced to inappropriate topics like BDSM.
The Family Sex Show repeatedly claimed that they had taken advice from child safeguarding experts, however the show contravened NSPCC guidelines. After they were contacted, the NSPCC also said that not only had they never heard of it, they also had no input into devising it
A number of CitizenGO members contacted me directly to let me know that they had also outlined the contents of the Family Sex Show to their local police force to ascertain whether or not the production was in breach of any indecent exposure or child protection laws, and that the police also expressed their concern.
It is a violation of children’s rights and boundaries for an adult to strip naked in front of them and initiate conversations of a sexually explicit nature.
The campaign was never about banning freedom of expression, but protecting children. I had been been planning to step up the campaign today and had a number of offline actions planned, that will now no longer be necessary.
I will be watching developments closely over the next week however and will not hesitate to act should it emerge that children will be attending the private performance. The show has yet to confirm whether or not the performers who are so keen to strip in front of children have been subject to any DBS checks or what checks are being made on those adults who would wish to take children to this performance.
The campaign was phenomenally successful and picked up by a number of media outlets and social media influencers. I made two interventions on Talk Radio and BBC Radio Bristol and we featured in a number of excellent articles.
People are beginning to come to their senses and realise that tolerance and respect for the LGBT community must never entail the premature sexualisation of children or erosion of their natural boundaries. This victory would not have been possible without every single one of your signatures. Together we can change the world.
Out of 46 candidates, I came 8th in the Council Elections at the National Trust AGM 2021. I missed out on the 6th vacancy by 850 votes. I want to thank each and every one of the 33,564 National Trust members who voted for me. In one sense that is a miracle, even if it was not quite the one I was praying for. The results were announced at the Trust’s Annual General Meeting in Harrogate on Saturday 30th October.
Why were the elections important? Because the National Trust is but one of our many institutions, from the BBC, to the media, to academia, to quangos, NHS trusts, the civil service, the armed and response services, even some of the established church, taken over by a God-hating liberal-left elite.
’Recommended’ candidates
The Trust ‘Nominations Committee’ recommended six candidates. In my election address I described this procedure as ‘anti-democratic’ and ‘corrupt’. Nevertheless, the Committee did not have it all their own way. Four of their recommended candidates were elected, led by Min Grimshaw, who made much of her Sikh heritage and gained 43,536 votes. Their fifth recommended candidate came seventh and their sixth was well down the field.
Two candidates recommended by protest group Restore Trust were elected, Andrew Powles and farmer Guy Trehane. Restore Trust is urging the NT to return to its founding principles. The group was kind enough to add me to its list of six recommended candidates. I did not ask for their support, but it was welcome nonetheless.
AGM AND CLIMATE CHANGE
The AGM itself was nothing like as well-attended as the last one Judy and I went to, in Swindon in 2017. Perhaps 250 members turned up this time.
Hilary McGrady, National Trust Director-General
Trust Director-General Hilary McGrady felt driven by complaints she had received to reassure the meeting that the Trust’s focus was still on the preservation of houses. At the same time Ms McGrady illustrated her AGM talk with a number of pictures. One of these was of the National Trust in the 2019 Birmingham Gay Pride Parade. That was just one of the pro-LGBT excesses I complained about in my election address.
Ms McGrady promised that staff and volunteers would ‘reflect the communities they serve’. It will not happen, but it is one of those things any right-on DG is expected to say. She also spoke of the ‘threat of climate change’ and promised the Trust would plant 20 million trees.
It was not clear where they would be planted. On scrub-land? Or on prime farmland? However, Harry Bowell, the Trust’s Director of Land and Nature, said 12% of the Trust’s 250,000 hectares of land was currently woodland but they wanted to increase it to 17%. It seems a £2.23m National Lottery Heritage Fund grant is allocated to that project.
RESOLUTIONS
Restore Trust tabled two resolutions. One complained about dumbing-down and loss of proper curators, the other about the Trust’s alleged cavalier treatment of volunteers.
The Daily Telegraph reported: ‘The National Trust has been accused of “arrogant abuse” of its historic properties by prioritising “visitor experience” over heritage.’ It described it as ‘a heated members meeting.’
The paper went on: ‘charity executives were forced to defend themselves against accusations that they had abandoned their purpose of protecting the nation’s heritage “for everyone, for ever”.
‘Members and former staff accused bosses of losing valuable curatorial experience and replacing it with “trite” displays in order to increase footfall and make money. Volunteers also accused bosses of “taking them for granted and not listening to them” whilst one 25-year-old member said that they “did not care” about young people.’
A number of National Trust members each year allow the Chairman to cast their vote for them. I have described this as another corrupt National Trust practice. Using these ‘proxy votes’, the Trust narrowly defeated the two resolutions.
FOCUSSED ON POLICY
Before the voting for the council closed on 22nd October, a couple of people asked me who else they should vote for. As it happens, under the rules no candidate was actually allowed to promote themselves outside the NT process. But the truth was you could whittle it down to two or three.
Mine was the most ‘political’ election statement the National Trust has seen in years. It was certainly the most focussed on policy in this election. Mr Powles and Mr Trehane were the only other two to mention matters of policy, respectively concerns over political correctness and re-wilding.
Every other profile, without exception, was unrelentingly bland. They limited references to policy to ‘climate change’. They were all (a) ‘I’ve done this, I’ve done that’, (b) ‘The National Trust is wonderful’, (c) ‘I can really be an asset.’ To put that in curriculum-vitae-speak, as one lady did: ‘I can contribute an extensive and relevant range of skills and experience…’ Politically-correct references to ‘marginalised voices’, ‘protect out planet’, ‘inequality of access to nature’, ‘building resilience throughout rural landscapes’, ‘the promotion of biodiversity and connectivity,’ ‘we can collectively advocate for systems change’, were dotted through.
CORPORATE JARGON
Perhaps the most excruciating example of corporate jargon was penned by Phil Hardy-Bishop. ‘I am a keen networker and have a significant personal skill in identifying and establishing synergies for mutual collaboration’, he wrote. Mr Hardy-Bishop gained 2,157 votes.
My own favourite piece of nonsense came from one Martin Pugh: ‘I will challenge the Trust to improve access to their assets for everyone irrespective of ethnicity, culture, social background, sexual orientation or locality’. Is there really a notice on the front door at Polesden Lacey saying, ‘No blacks. No chavs. No gays.’?
This is a prime example of how the diversity crew propose solutions to problems which do not exist. And what does he mean by ‘locality’? This is the way it works: People make their own way to a National Trust property they wish to visit. Was he proposing a fleet of free buses to carry people from London to the North Downs? Mr Pugh secured 8,778 votes.
JUST ONE FARMER
Mike Innerdale – ‘wetting up’ farmland
The Trust was criticised in the press in 2016 HERE, HERE and HERE for buying up Thorneythwaite sheep farm in the Lake District in order to ‘rewild’ it. Elsewhere, according to Farmers Weekly the Trust’s tenant farmers have complained the Trust is putting what it thinks is ‘the environment’ above food production.Indeed, one Mike Innerdale, the Trust’s regional director for the north, gave a presentation to the AGM in which he spoke of ‘wetting-up our farmland’ and a ‘drive to net zero’.
Guy Trehane was the only full-time farmer standing in the election. He drew attention to the policy in his election address, calling for a restoration of ‘local food production and thriving rural enterprise at the the heart of our treasured countryside property.’ Mr Treharne sought and won re-election to the Council. Needless to say, he was not one of the committee’s recommended candidates. There’s gratitude for you.
COLONIALISM AND THE SLAVE TRADE
The only other candidate I thought it was possible to vote for was Andrew Powles, who complained about the ‘energy expended on the interim report on colonialism and the slave trade at (last year’s) virtual AGM’. He called for a ‘retain and explain’ approach. However, one victim of the National Trust’s interpretation of that very approach has been Sir Winston Churchill, who donated Chartwell. The report criticised him for opposing independence for India. The report was also unable to see any difference between slavery and colonialism.
How many of the Trust’s grand houses, or for that matter how many of our pubic buildings, are totally untainted by colonial-era profit, from slavery, or indeed by less than favourable pay and conditions imposed on men and women within these shores?
Perhaps we should try to view our historic forebears through the lens of the own time, rather than our own. In fact, they might well be horrified by what we take for granted.
Read and pray
READ: Psalm 118:23, 119:126,165; Isa 8:20; Matt 21:42, 23:12; Jas 2:12.
PRAY: Give thanks for the Lord granting me a strong showing in the election. Pray that more candidates might stand against ‘woke-ness’ and for a return to founding principles, and be elected. Intercede for the National Trust itself. May its leaders recognise that our spiritual Christian heritage is of far more value than our tangible built heritage and that the former has inspired the latter down the ages. Pray for Almighty God to move in power.

Who: Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi MP is on at 10.50am on Friday 11th. Registration opens at 8:00am so that is when we shall gather to pray, witness and give leaflets to delegates.
Who: Ofsted Chief Inspector Amanda Spielman is scheduled for 9.50am on Saturday 12th. The conference closes at 3.00pm. We want to be there when the people leave the venue.
Background
Andrew Moffat (holding the 6-colour ‘diversity’ rainbow umbrella now with added trans colours) leading the Birmingham Gay Pride parade in 2019.
Why: Sex education, now called in the UK ‘ Relationships and Sex Education, is always too much, too graphic and too soon. Its outcomes are shockingly poor. The UK experiences the highest levels of teenage pregnancies in Europe. We now have the worst levels of STD’s ever. Teen suicide is shocking, driven in part by sexual expectations and demands. Meanwhile, child-on-child sex abuse is soaring.
RSE promotes homosexuality and deviant sexual practices. It advances ‘trans’ ideology, encouraging children into ‘gender dyspohria’ and puberty-blocking hormones. That all amounts to child abuse.
RSE provides an open door for ideological activists like Andrew Moffat. He developed the gay propaganda programme ‘No Outsiders’ while working as a teacher in Birmingham schools. In 2019 he piloted ‘No Outsiders’ at Parkfield Community School off Alum Rock Road. Parents protested at the school and called for Moffat to go. ‘No Outsiders’ is still in use in schools.
Amanda Spielman has constantly condemned parental protests and called for ‘sane, rational discussion’. If a policy was ‘not working well enough’ then ‘it’s proper conversation that will change it, not protests,’ she sniffed. It’s breathtaking establishment arrogance. Talking to these elitists changes nothing. Only strong parental opposition will make them leave our children alone.
Education is the responsibility of parents
The Bible makes clear that parents are responsible for teaching their children the right way to go:
Deut 11:18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (KJV)
The word of God encourages modesty:
1Tim 2:9a In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel…
The Lord Jesus had harsh words for those who lead children astray:
Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. (‘offend:’ Greek ‘skandalizo’, ‘entrap’, ‘lead astray’.)
RSE Guidelines
Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State at the Department for Education in 2019
Parents have no right now to take their children out of ‘Relationships Education’ in primary schools, where all the homosexual propaganda happens or out of any part of RSE in secondaries. In Wales there is no parental opt-out at all.
Back in 2019, Schools Minister Nick Gibb said: ‘… it is of course vital that, by the time they become adults and participate in British society, pupils understand, respect and value all the protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010.’ Those ‘characteristics’ include homosexuality and transsexualism. So the Government think it’s ‘vital’ that pupils ‘respect and value’ homosexuality and transsexualism?
That was a declaration of cultural – or religious – war.
What we’ll do and why
Psalm 20:5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
We’ll pray, sing and hand out the leaflets to those attending the conference and set up our banners (feel free to bring a banner with a scripture verse) in the name of the Lord. Above all, we’ll show by our presence that Govt RSE is wrong and parents need a cast-iron opt-out from all of it.
We were present handing out leaflets in March 2019 and there was no conference in either 2020 or 2021. So this opportunity really is heaven-sent. If you are close enough, please come and bring your church members and children and everyone. If not, pray for it to be well-supported and noticed on high.
Hermann Goering was LuftReichsmarschall in Nazi Germany, in charge of its air force.
Reichsmarschal Hermann Goering
Days before he died, a high-ranking German officer, convicted as a war criminal by the Nuremberg court, laid bare a shocking principle of governance which is still in use by governments worldwide today.
Hermann Goering (in German ‘Göring‘) explained that any unscrupulous state leadership, anywhere in the world, can always secure popular support for a war or an oppressive measure.
The Nuremberg Diary
During the trials, a German-speaking American intelligence officer and psychologist, one Gustave Gilbert, was granted free access by the Allies to the Nazi prisoners held in the jail. Dr. Gilbert kept a journal of his observations of the proceedings and his conversations with the prisoners. He later published these as the book Nuremberg Diary.
On the evening of 18th April 1946 Dr Gilbert spoke to a dejected Reichsmarschal Herman Goering in his cell. Goering was Hitler’s deputy and head of the Luftwaffe during World War II.
The whole conversation is referenced HERE. This is what Gilbert wrote:
‘Drag the people along’
‘We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.
‘“Why, of course, the people don’t want war,” Goering shrugged. “Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a parliament or a communist dictatorship”.’
“There is one difference,” Gilbert protested, “In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.”
Goering’s Principle
“Oh, that is all well and good,” replied Goering, “but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country”.
This is Goering’s Principle. It is a profound insight into how governments work, or can work, when politicians forget they are there to serve the people. Even today, Goering’s Principle is being used by our leaders to paint a one-sided picture of the Russia-Ukraine conflict..
Goering’s Principle works well with the Two-Minute Hate of George Orwell’s classic novel ‘1984’. Up on the screen pop images of someone the Party has chosen to be hated. He is connected with Oceania’s enemy Eurasia. The assembled populace scream at the images on the screen.
And so today ‘Putin’ is demonised. Our politicians maintain, and the media repeat, that he is ‘unhinged’, ‘mad’, a ‘tyrant’, intent on war and empire-building, as if the West and NATO, despite Iraq, despite Libya, despite Syria, are peace-loving and non-aggressive. Goering’s Principle does not rely on grace, humility, nuance or seeing both sides of the argument.
Application to Covid
Furthermore, Goering’s Principle does not only apply for dragging the people along to accept a war and to go and fight in it. Let us rephrase it in Covid terms:
‘All you have to do is tell the people they are being attacked by a deadly virus and denounce all who oppose lockdowns, restrictions, masks or vaccines for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country’.
As indeed it did across most of the world except for Africa and India where the lockdown policy came up against the lack of buckets of available money to pay people to sit at home idle. In the UK, Project Fear was dusted off from the coffers of the Remain campiagn in the Brexit referendum to scare us all rigid and browbeat us, as Goering predicted, into accepting measures we never should have done.
Chrstian Voice denounced lockdown as ungodly from day one. But the people, including Christians, believe their leaders. That is what Goering’s Principle relies on, that and the government having access to powerful propaganda arms: newspaper adverts, bus shelters, Twitter, Facebook and the mainstream media. Perhaps the new, upcoming youth-oriented social media platforms can provide an alternative, but it is scarcely enough against the power of the state and its media mouthpieces.
Propaganda continues
Even today, as the Covid and the hysteria retreat in England and dates are set in Scotland, the Welsh Government cannot let go. Here is its latest promoted tweet: ‘The more we keep on doing the right thing, the more we’ll protect each other. Wear a mask, get vaccinated, get tested and self-isolate to protect those around you and Disrupt the Transmission of COVID-19. Together, we’ll Keep Wales Safe.’ Linc Cymru tweeted it as well.
That’s not all. Let us now rephrase Goering’s Principle in NetZero terms:
‘All you have to do is tell the people they are being attacked by greenhouse gases and denounce all who oppose the NetZero agenda for lack of patriotism, lack of care for ‘the planet’ and exposing the country to danger from climate change.’
This too has been employed all over the developed world, nowhere as fanatically as in the UK. And as Goering said, it’s the poor who suffer from all these measures imposed by their leaders while those in power and their friends enrich themselves. It works the same way, as the Reichsmarschal said, in any and every country.
