Although the UK Parliament has now officially approved the creation of 3-parent babies, concerned citizens can still work to block the new measures at the implementation stage.

It will be up to the fertility regulator, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), to decide whether a treatment can go ahead on a case-by-case basis. Consequently, UK citizens opposed to the new measures can still make a difference by writing to their MPs. Our lawmakers can put pressure on the HFEA to think through a number of problems and ramifications before allowing the practice to become widespread. Some of the problems the HFEA needs to wrestle with before allowing widespread implementation have been helpfully summarized on the CitizenGo website and are quoted below:

• None of the proposed techniques represents a cure for mitochondrial disease which will continue to appear randomly at birth. These techniques would only be applied to families already identified as being at risk of conceiving a baby with mitochondrial disease.
• The current proposals represent in no way whatsoever attempts to cure the condition in existing babies, but rather involve the creation of a completely new kind of human embryo whose genetic composition would be determined by using material from two maternal progenitor sources.
• The woman donating the healthy mitochondria would provide identifiable genetic material – no matter how minimal – to the embryo produced and the offspring would (at least in the case of one technique) have three biological parents.
• The proposed techniques are unequivocally germline genetic modification (unlike post-natal therapies such as blood or organ donation) and as such, changes made would be passed on to future generations with completely unknown consequences.
• At least one technique is in effect a cloning technique, thereby opening the door to full reproductive cloning, which is universally prohibited.
• Serious safety issues associated with the mitochondrial transfer and modification of the mammalian egg have already been identified in published studies. The last time one of the techniques was tried in humans, it resulted in an abortion and two stillbirths.
• Animal experiments in this field have shown decreased survival, inhibited growth and other horrifying abnormalities.
• A further consideration is harm to the women used as egg donors, as the procedure requires aggressive ovarian stimulation, which can lead amongst other complications to ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome which can be fatal.
• Modification of human eggs or early embryos for procreation using heritable interventions is widely prohibited in such international declarations and conventions as:
• The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Universal Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights which indicates in Article 24 that ‘germ-line interventions’ could be considered as practices which are ‘contrary to human dignity”.
• The Council of Europe’s Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine which indicates in Article 13 that “an intervention seeking to modify the human genome may only be undertaken for preventive, diagnostic or therapeutic purposes and only if its aim is not to introduce any modification in the genome of any descendants”.
• The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union which indicates in Article 3 that “In the fields of medicine and biology (…) the prohibition of eugenic practices, in particular those aiming at the selection of persons, must be respected”.

BACKGROUND

On 4th February, Christian Voice reported on the recent vote, in which 382 MPs voted in favour and 128 against the practice of creating 3-parent babies. Those voting against represented the views of the public, who are opposed. The amendment still has to go through the House of Lords, but it will most likely not face much opposition.

This law will become an amendment to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 and will come into effect in October 2015. Human trials can then begin immediately and the first babies could be born next autumn.

Oocyte modification, commonly called ‘three-parent in vitro fertilization (IVF),’ is the process by which damaged mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from the woman’s egg are replaced with healthy mtDNA of a female donor, thus allowing a child to be born with healthy mitochondria. Because the procedure replaces an egg’s defective mitochondrial DNA with healthy mDNA from a female donor’s egg, it essentially creates a baby with DNA from three people: the male and two females.

Developed by British scientists, this currently illegal procedure is aimed to prevent debilitating health conditions such as liver and brain deterioration and muscular dystrophy.

As many as 2,500 British women could undergo this treatment, allowing them to have biological children who do not inherit their mitochondrial diseases. Despite these benefits, many doctors and lawmakers oppose this controversial procedure on both ethical and health grounds.

Jacob Rees, an MP who voted against the amendment, said: ‘You are not curing somebody of something; you are creating someone different. People have compared it to blood transfusions. That is simply wrong.’

The procedure can potentially prevent a child from being born with a mitochondrial disease, but it cannot cure children already born with a disease. Much of the time, mothers are not aware that they are passing on mitochondrial diseases until the first child is born.

While 1 in 200 with some form of a mitochondrial disorder, only 1 in 10,000 babies are severely affected by this. As a result, not many births would be involved with the procedure.

The potential of creating three-parent babies has received backlash from several churches.

Auxiliary Bishop John Sherrington of Westminster stated on behalf of the bishops that human life should not be used as ‘disposable material,’ but must be respected and protected. He said further that while the ‘Church recognises the suffering that mitochondrial diseases bring and hopes that alternative methods of treatment can be found, it remains opposed on principle to these procedures where the destruction of human embryos is part of the process.’

Sherrington added elsewhere that it is ‘extraordinary that a license should be sought for a radical new technique affecting future generations without first conducting a clinical trial.’

Rev. Dr. Brenden McCarthy, the Church of England’s national advisor on medical issues, contested that more research and debate was needed before the procedure moved forward.

‘The Archbishops Council, which monitors this issue, does not feel that there has been sufficient scientific study or informed consultation into the ethics, safety and efficacy of mitochondria transfer.’

Some scientists have also raised concerns. Stuart Newman, professor of cell biology and anatomy at New York Medical College said he was ‘very disappointed’ in the vote. He described the three-parent baby procedure as one that essentially creates a human being from ‘bits and pieces of cells from different people.’

‘Scientifically, it you try to put together an organism from fragments of cells, it’s going to mostly not work. Frequently it will look normal, but there will be things wrong with it. That has been shown experimentally.

‘It is going to lead to children with conditions which, in some cases, will probably be worse than the conditions they are trying to avoid.’

A New Age sect are building a ‘Norse Temple’ in Iceland according to Huffington Post.

Asatruarfelagid, a neopagan organization, plans to start construction next month on the country’s first Norse temple since Christianity arrived in the island nation roughly 1,000 years ago.

The Reykjavik City Council has donated land for the temple, but the group has to raise nearly $1 million for the building itself, which will be set into a hillside and topped with a dome to let in sunlight, the BBC reported.

Once completed, the temple will accommodate 250 worshippers. It will host weddings, funerals, naming rituals, initiation ceremonies and more for the group’s 2,488 members, which Reuters says is triple the number from just a decade ago.

The Asatruarfelagid, which began in 1972, says on its website that its values are “based on tolerance, honesty, honor and respect for the ancient cultural heritage and nature,” and follows the principal that “each person is responsible for themselves and their actions,” according to a Google translation..

In an article for The World Post, Stanley Weiss has revealed the extent of Great Britain’s Islamization.

Weiss’s concerns echo warnings issued by Christian Voice (which you can read about here and here and here and here and here), Weiss warns of the social and political effect of Western nations capitulating to radical Islam.

Weiss begins his article by comparing the crusades in the Middle Ages with the actions of Muslim extremists today. From 1096-1291 A.D., Christianity would most likely have been deemed a violent religion by the general public if people had the internet to publicize the deeds of Christians. But comparative violence is happening now as a result of radical Islam. Killings perpetrated by Muslims are plastered all over the internet, causing a sense of fear among people in Britain. This publicity makes it hard for Muslims to maintain that Islam is a peaceful religion.

Interestingly, Weiss believes that violence is not the most effective way that Islam is growing in Britain.

The experience of England shows that Islam’s most effective tools for establishing new footholds in Western cities might just be a passport and a marital bed. As improbable as it would have seemed 25 years ago — and as xenophobic and paranoid as it undoubtedly sounds to every Westerner who rolls their eyes at the phrase, “the Islamisation of Europe” — the fact is that migration patterns and high birthrates have combined to turn Islam into Europe’s fastest-growing religion.”

Why does this increase in Britain’s Muslim population have people worried, given that Britain officially prizes the principles of multiculturalism and diversity?

Weiss suggests three reasons:

1. A wide cultural gap. Instead of becoming part of British culture, Muslims are creating their own subculture that is often in conflict with British law.
2. Muslim extremism is hitting Britons where they are vulnerable, such as their schools (heard of the Trojan Horse Plot?) or population (citizens who openly support terrorist groups like ISIS).
3. British law has allowed this anti-British subculture to flourish without offering an attractive alternative.

The author seems to downplay the general fear that Britain has of Muslims, but ends the article ominously asking what the next 25 years of jihad will look like.

In an article published in World Net Daily, Joseph Farah has shown the folly of Obama’s policy regarding ISIS.

In deciding to arm “moderate Muslims”, Obama is ignoring the reality that most of the deaths perpetrated by ISIS have been leveled against Christian populations.

Farah’s article, titled “Why arm Mideast Muslims, not Christians?“, points out that while details are hard to verify, “we do know for certain is that Mosul, Iraq’s largest Christian town of about 300,000, has been virtually emptied of its population. That alone suggests a Christian holocaust is well under way.” Farah continued:

The Christian population of Iraq had already been largely driven out by years of war, persecution and infighting as they were treated as an afterthought even by U.S. occupation forces. Most of them fled to Syria, and have since faced death, persecution and refugee status yet again at the hands of ISIS.

In Mosul, ISIS advertised its barbarity and ruthlessness by photographing their executions of Christian children. They herded the kids into parks, beheaded them and placed their heads on sticks. ISIS has made music videos of themselves murdering Christian civilians and captured Iraqi soldiers, mostly Shiites.

“They are literally enjoying the act of killing and the fear and suffering experienced by others,” reports Catholic Online. “This sadism may be the purest manifestation of evil witnessed since the Rape of Nankin during World War II.”

Yet there was no mention of Christians in Obama’s “strategy” talk last week. Instead, Obama suggested the real victims of ISIS, which he insists is not Islamic, are mostly Muslims. This is an outrageous distortion of reality as the Christian community of the Middle East continues to face genocide at the hands of ISIS and al-Qaida.

Since the 1990s in Bosnia, the U.S. has systematically interceded to stop what it characterizes as ethnic and religious cleansing – only when the victims are Muslim. Not once has the U.S. lifted a hand to protect Christians. Muslim groups have been armed to defend themselves in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, often resulting in more bloodshed, not less. Not once has the U.S. even debated the idea of arming or rescuing Christians from the onslaught of fratricidal jihadists.

Once again, no one is rushing to aid Christians caught in the crossfire.

Why not?

Why does the U.S. continue to do the same thing over and over again expecting different results?

Why would the U.S. rearm the Free Syrian Army, which sold the beheaded American journalists to ISIS?

Why does the U.S. provide military and other aid to Islamic communities and armies all over the world but never to Christians who face far more gruesome persecution?

Why is there no effort even to rescue the Christians or provide them with a homeland of their own?
Obama cannot be trusted to bomb Syrian targets, either. Just a year ago, he was demanding Congress give him authority to bomb the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, who has been fighting ISIS and offering more protection to Christians than the U.S. has throughout its Iraq occupation. Now Obama says he wants to bomb the other side in this conflict. With such a history of poor judgment, should he really be trusted to pick the right targets?

Christians have been the forgotten victims in this war for too long.

It’s time to give peace a chance by arming them to defend themselves or evacuating them on a massive scale and providing a safe haven for them in the U.S.

Britain is fast becoming a breeding ground of Islamic radicalism as British-born Muslims flock to the Middle East to join the growing jihad.

An average of seven Britons a week are travelling to Syria and Iraq along a wide stretch on the Turkish border which has come to be known as the ‘Gateway to Jihad.’ In total, 2,000 British Muslims have travelled this route to fight in the jihad, Khalid Mahmood, MP for Perry Barr, has warned.

Concern is increasing that when these British citizens return home they could unleash terror on UK streets.

Once in the Middle East, these British citizens have been joining the brutal terrorist group ISIS (also known as IS and ISIL), a successor group to Al-Qaeda with strong roots in the Muslim Brotherhood. Al-Qaeda has recently distanced itself from ISIS because of its unimaginable brutality, which the BBC reported includes atrocities such as “targeted killings, forced conversions, slavery, sexual abuse, and the besieging of entire communities.”

Below are only some of the high profile cases of jihadists with links to Britain:

• A British student who decided to join the Jihad in Iraq has been calling on Muslims to join the Golden Era of Jihad.
• Terrorists with British accents have been sending recorded threats to the West.
• Khadijah Dare, a British girl from Lewisham, south London, has vowed to be the first woman to kill Westerners. The twenty-two year old was born a non-Muslim but was radicalised online before moving to Syria. Hours after the brutal beheading of American journalist James Foley, Dare gloated about the murder online. She has also posted pictures of her four-year-old son with an AK-47 rifle and has threatened to cut off heads.
• One former Morrisons security guard travelled to Syria where he gave an interview with the BBC, boasting about fighting with ISIS. He has threatened to “bomb the UK” and laughed about the beheading of soldier during his interview.
• It was reported that Sally Jones, a former female rock band member from Chatham, decided to join the Jihad. She has threatened to behead Christians by herself with a blunt knife. (“You Christians all need beheading with a nice blunt knife and stuck on the railings at raqqa … Come here I’ll do it for you!”)
• British women who joined ISIS have been operating a Sharia police force to punish those deemed to be “unIslamic.”
• Citizens of Britain have also been involved in funding the would-be Islamic state in Iraq and Syria.

• Britain has offered as safe haven to Libya’s highest spiritual leader, the grand mufti Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, who helped to orchestrate the Islamist takeover of Tripoli from his home in the UK.

THE METHODS AND GOALS OF ISIS

Once in Iraq and Syria, these British-born jihadists are trying to help ISIS achieve its goal, which is to eliminate all borders in the Middle East and establish a Caliphate under the monarchy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a man wanted for $10 million by the Americans.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his thugs have exploited grievances felt by the Sunni community following their marginalization in the government America helped to establish under the Shia triumphalism of Nouri al-Maliki. After breaking off of Al-Qaeda, the group has gone on to control much of eastern and northern Syria and western and northern Iraq.

It is not simply the lawful governments of Iraq and Syria that have become the target of ISIS; they have also been exterminating the civilian populations on an unimaginable scale. Their regime of ethnic cleansing is slowly and systematically exterminating some of the world’s oldest Christian communities. ISIS has also been targeting Shia Muslims and all Middle East populations not associated with their particularly fanatical version of Islam.

When ISIS forces conquer an area they immediately impose Sharia law, including a ban on smoking, football and music. Women are forced to be completely veiled in black from head to toe and forbidden from leaving their house without a male guardian. ISIS thugs even routinely raid schools to punish girls who are not fully veiled in black. The less fortunate women are sold into sexual slavery.

ISIS has issued ultimatums demanding that all Christians convert to Islam, pay the jizya tax required of non-Muslims, or die. Last month we reported on a typical case of what happened when a Christian father could not afford this tax: three ISIS soldiers barged into his house and proceeded to rape his wife and daughter in front of him. The husband and father was so distraught that he later killed himself.

More recently, there have been reports that the holocaust against Christians has included youths being crucified and beheaded and buried alive and numerous other atrocities for no reason other than the fact that these children are Christians.

ABC news reported that in towns controlled by the group, “Friday is the day for public beheadings and amputations for people who violate its strict Islamic rule, and whippings for women if their clothing offends ISIS’ sense of propriety.”

The UN reported that “Civilians, including children, are urged to watch. Bodies of those killed are placed on display for several days, terrorizing the local population”

BEHIND THE BRITISH JIHAD

It is hard to imagine why so many hundreds of British men and women are eager to travel to the Middle East to join in the barbarism and carnage perpetuated by ISIS. While the motivations behind the British wing of jihad are complex and multifaceted, there are a number of contributing factors we have identified over the years which helped to contextualize the growth of radical Islam in the UK.

One factor is that Britain’s native Muslim population has recently seen huge expansion due to high birth rate and conversions to Islam. While the growing population of British Muslims are mostly peace-loving, nevertheless this growth does increase the pool of people that can be potentially radicalized. We saw this with startling clarity in 2013 when radical Islam made huge inroads into all aspects of British life.

Another factor contributing to home-grown terrorism is that the British government and media have long been involved in a jihad against free speech, as they seek to suppress all discussion of the link between Islam and terrorism. This has included banning talk show host Michael Savage from entering the UK because of his anti-Muslim views, and more recently the Government’s decision to prohibit Robert Spencer from entering the UK (Robert Spencer is the author of Stealth Jihad.)

By denying any link between terrorism and the teachings found in Islamic texts, and then using strong-arm tactics to suppress scholars who might suggest otherwise, the authorities in Britain have left themselves unable to adequately address the challenges posed by home-grown radicalism.

“Why does it make any difference whether or not what the Islamic State is doing is in accord with Islamic texts and teachings?” Robert Spencer asked. “Among other reasons, because it will help determine how much support the new caliphate will ultimately get from Muslims worldwide, and will serve as an indicator of how much we can expect to see the actions of the Islamic State replicated by other Muslims elsewhere.” Such questions are being ignored by our officials, who have become convinced that the basic problem is that the terrorists are mistaken about their own religion. Accordingly, our incredibly naive officials believe that the solution is to simply better educate the terrorists so they will realize that their terrorism was actually based on ignorance concerning the real teaching of their religion.

This atmosphere of denial has been fueled by Britain’s multiculturalism, and the strange alliance multiculturalism has wrought between modern liberalism and Islamic fascism. This is not purely academic: earlier this year we reported on how multiculturalism caused the British Government to hide the truth about Muslim grooming gangs and perpetuate a “conspiracy of silence” that left countless girls abused and damaged for life. The same conspiracy of silence has left the UK Government unable to fully address the jihad springing up in our midst.

The Government wants to compel all schools in England to ‘actively promote’ homosexual and transsexual rights, even in schools with a religious ethos.

The Proposed New Independent School Standards are a politically-correct response to the recent ‘Trojan Horse’ scandal.  Officials at the Department for Education have taken the opportunity provided by extremism in some Birmingham schools to insist that sodomy and transgender rights should be actively promoted.

As the Proposal says: ‘independent schools are subject to the Equality Act 2010, the only remedy directly provided by that Act is through the Courts; the new standards would allow the Department to take regulatory action against the school for failing to meet them.’

The consultation on The Proposed New Independent School Standards, which would apply to private schools, academies and free schools, closes on Monday 4th August.

For schools run by local education authorities the Government say they will change OFSTED inspection standards to reflect the same position.

The Proposal (at paragraph 1.1c, speaks of ‘fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs; and encourage students to respect other people, with particular regard to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010;’

But of course the Equality Act 2010 includes ‘gender reassignment’ and ‘sexual orientation’ alongside age, sex, disability, race, religion or belief.  A better way of encouraging extremism than forcing Muslim schools to promote transsexuality, sodomy and lesbianism can hardly be imagined.

The Proposal states, at paragraph 3.2.2::

‘The proposed changes to Part 2 are aimed at making it clear to independent schools that the proprietor must actively promote the fundamental British values that are set out in section 1.1(c) above and that schools must actively promote the specified principles, including furthering tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions and encouraging respect for democracy. A minimum approach, for example putting up posters on a notice board and organising an occasional visit to places of worship would fall short of ‘actively promoting’. Schools will be expected to focus on, and be able to show how their work with pupils is effective in embedding fundamental British values. ‘Actively promote’ also means challenging pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values.’

It goes on to say

‘The new requirement for schools to actively promote principles which encourage respect for persons with protected characteristics (as set out in the Equality Act 2010) is intended to allow the Secretary of State to take regulatory action in various situations: for example … failure to address homophobia…’

Schools will be obliged  to challenge the views of parents if they are against “British values” as defined to include the promotion of politically correct groups.

There are stringent new rules on religious tolerance which will mean Christian children being forced to visit mosques, Muslim children to visit Hindu temples, and so on.

Independent schools will have to show Stonewall propaganda videos.

The Proposed New Independent School Standards is an outrageous intrusion into a school’s ethos and family life.

There will be a witness for Meriam Ibrahim outside the Sudanese Embassy from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 6th June 2014.

This is despite false reports of Meriam’s imminent release (see below).

The nearest tube is Green Park. Turn right out of the station and walk down St James’ St to Cleveland Row. Note that the Embassy is within the congestion charge zone, so best come by tube or bus.

Meriam Ibrahim is the Christian Sudanese doctor sentenced to death and to 100 lashes for apostasy, that is converting from Islam to Christianity, and for adultery, that is marrying a man who is not a Muslim. Despite Meriam being brought up by her mother as a Christian, she counts as Muslim according to Sudanese law because her father was Muslim.

Meriam has just given birth to a daughter in prison and has a 2-year-old son by her husband, Daniel Wani.  The Court says she must stay in prison for two years to nurse her baby and will then be executed.  It is not know when the flogging is scheduled.

The Sudan court decision has at last been condemned by all UK political leaders, but to our knowledge, no-one has yet taken a protest to the Embassy itself.  To spare a few hours on a Friday afternoon will be the least we can do.

A couple of hours after we posted our call to witness on Saturday 31st May, a Sudanese government foreign-office official was reported as saying that Meriam would be released ‘within days’.  This apparent swift answer to prayer was dashed within a day.  The official had no authority to make such a statement, her husband said he had heard nothing, and her lawyer says the judicial process must be gone through before any release.

Pastor James McConnell was recently reported for ‘hate speech’ for describing Islam as ‘heathen’ and ‘satanic’ and a doctrine ‘spawned in hell’.

Peter Robinson, Northern Ireland First Minister, sprang to Pastor O’Connell’s defence.

But Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers condemned Mr McConnell’s remarks.  She said: ‘It’s a matter for the first minister how he responds to these remarks – people obviously have different perspectives. For myself, I do condemn the remarks made by Pastor McConnell and don’t believe they are justified – Islam is a peaceful religion’.

So how are the Sudanese courts and rulers, and I am confident any survey would find the population of Sudan in support of them, exhibiting the peaceful aspects of this ‘peaceful religion’? Perhaps you could ask your MP to ask her that question.

It would be interesting to know how Muslims in the UK view the death sentence on Meriam Ibrahim.  It is hard to find any comment, let alone condemnation, about her treatment from the Muslim Council of Britain or any other British Muslim group.

The Sudanese Embassy website has an article opposing ‘Islamophobia’.  Acts such as the brutal sentence passed by Sudan on Meriam Ibrahim only fuel British people’s misgivings about Islam.

The UK indirectly gives aid to Sudan.  Your MP may be contacted via the Parliament Website.
