‘O hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing’.
(From the carol: ‘It came upon the Midnight Clear’)

We thank God for the liberation of Aleppo last month (December 2016) by the Syrian Government, supported as they were by Russia and Iran (and opposed by Boris Johnson and the British Government), and for the eviction of Western- and Saudi-supported jihadists from the east of that historic city.
The reunification of the city was a triumph for peace. Christians in Aleppo were able to celebrate Christmas in their churches for the first time in five years!
But now, as we pray for a cease-fire and a political solution, the British Government should recognise it is time to help rebuild Syria.

Petition to the Foreign Secretary

So we call upon Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson MP to do the following:
1 Stop all support and encouragement for the Syrian opposition and all further attempts to destabilise the Syrian Government and President Bashar al-Assad and work for peace instead,
2 Realise that President Assad, despite his faults, is the only guarantor of stability in Syria and the rights of religious minorities – the ‘Free Syrian Army’ jihadists supported by the Foreign Office have destroyed churches and would evict or kill every last ‘infidel’ Christian, Alawite, Shia and Druze from the land,

3 Recognise and re-establish diplomatic relations with the Syrian Arab Republic. (The Syrian embassy in London was closed in May 2012,
4 If we have to spend as much as £12.2 billion on foreign aid, send some of it, in fact, a lot of it, to Syria to help rebuild that country and its infrastructure, especially helping its Christians to re-establish their homes and their businesses, and
5 Never again interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign state, under the pretext of ‘Responsibility to Protect‘ or with any other excuse.
It’s time for bricks, not bullets.
PRAY for the UK Government to stand for peace in Syria. PRAY they understand that further support for rebel groups will only add to the bloodshed and destruction. PRAY for them to accept reality and bring war to an end.

Perhaps Boris could send expelled Polish building workers to Syria ?
Only joking.
How about some Syrian refugees, though, if peace has really been restored under a benevolent régime ? We might take part in an EU programme for doing that, while we are still in the EU.
This is not a joke. When they do go back (which would be the best thing for everybody), they will need a job, and the job of rebuilding the country with foreign finance is of the greatest importance, so Bingo !
