Bacteria cannot have evolved – Nature

25
Inside a bacterium. No nucleus and simple DNA.
Inside a bacterium. No nucleus and simple DNA.

Research done just three years ago has demolished any idea that we are evolved from bacteria, Christian Voice has discovered.

The study, published in the pro-evolution journal Nature, is never referred to by the proponents of evolution, who are more fond of quoting Lenski’s experiments on bacteria, in which E-Coli appeared to evolve an ability to digest citrate.

But Lenski started with E-Coli bacteria and ended with E-Coli bacteria.  They did not evolve into anything else.  And now we know why.

Every form of life more complex than bacteria is comprised of cells with a nucleus.  Evolutionists have always said things like:

All species on Earth evolved from bacteria‘ (General point ‘1’)

Interestingly, scientists have learned that mitochondria evolved from bacteria a long, long time ago‘ (Introduction)

But statements like that can no longer be made, leaving evolutionists up a creek without a boat, let alone a paddle.  Evolutionists commenting on articles on our website always distance evolution from abiogenesis, the idea that life arose from non-life.  They recognise the lack of any evidence at all for abiogenesis, but regard the proposition that life as we see it today is accounted for by incremental changes over miiilions of years as one easier to sell to the public.  But even that is now in jeopardy.

A eukaryote, a cell with a nucleus, has 1,000 times the DNA of a bacterium, and is the building block of plant and animal life.
A eukaryote, with its nucleus and mitochondria, has 1,000 times the DNA of a bacterium, and is the building block of all plant and animal life.

Nick Lane and his fellow researcher William Martin in “The energetics of genome complexity” (Nature, Oct 2010. 467 (7318): 929-934) start by saying this:

“All complex life is composed of eukaryotic (nucleated) cells. The eukaryotic cell arose from prokaryotes just once in four billion years, and otherwise prokaryotes show no tendency to evolve greater complexity. Why not?”

So “prokaryotes” (cells without a nucleus – such as bacteria) “show no tendency to evolve greater complexity”.  Their claimed ‘arising’ of eukaryotes from prokaryotes is just conjecture, and their paper then demolishes the possibility that it could actually have happened. That is because their ‘Why not’ question has an answer, which they give: “Prokaryotic genome size is constrained by bioenergetics.” That’s the energy available to an organism, in layman’s terms.

Brian Thomas M.S., of the Institute for Creation Research, says they: ‘found that the total energy required to process eukaryotic DNA is far more than any bacterial system can produce.’

‘They therefore maintained that “mitochondria (cellular structures that contain the instructions and tiny machinery to produce energy in cells – SG) are prerequisite to [eukaryote] complexity.” They further wrote:

‘”The transition to complex life on Earth was a unique event that hinged on a bioenergetic jump afforded by spatially combinatorial relations between two cells and two genomes (endosymbiosis), rather than natural selection acting on mutations accumulated gradually among physically isolated prokaryotic individuals.” (emphasis added)’

This statement of Lane and Martin trips up evolution at its first primitive cell-with-a-nucleus hurdle. Eukaryotes have 1,000 times the DNA of bacteria – see the pro-evolution Arizona Biology Project) These authors say the transition from bacteria to the eukaryotic next stage cannot have happened by means of the evolutionary mechanisms (mutations and natural selection) upon which evolutionists rely.

It needed ‘a unique event’, ‘a bioenergetic jump’. It needed more energy than bacteria possess, or have ever possessed. It needed a miracle. It needed Deus ex Machina. They will never admit it, but life needs God.

What makes the Lane and Martin findings all the more powerful is that they are passionate evolutionists, continuing quite undaunted to write speculative articles about the mechanics of life ‘arising’ from the hostile conditions of sea vents.  They need our prayers!

This post follows on from our earlier post BBC will need a miracle to change and a pro-evolution discussion on it initiated by Prof Alice Roberts.

Court Denies Christian Parents Custody of their Own Children

By Robin Phillips

The Wunderlich family with members of Home School Legal Defense
The Wunderlich family with members of Home School Legal Defense

A German family court judge has refused to give the Wunderlich parents custody of their own children following the family’s decision to homeschool.

The Wunderlich are Christians and chose to homeschool for religious and educational reasons.

In the verdict last month, judge Marcus Malkmus defended his decision on the grounds that homeschooling is allegedly a “concrete endangerment to the well-being of the child.” He pointed out that if custody were returned to the parents then they would be able to obtain visas and travel to another European country where homeschooling is legal.

In September we reported on the armed raid in which German social services abducted the Wunderlich children on the sole grounds that the parents were exercising their right to home-school. In October we reported on how the German government promised to return the children on the condition that the Wunderlich family send their children to the state schools.

In order to keep their children, parents Dirk and Petra had no choice but to comply with German social services and put their children in the state schools where they face potential indoctrination in paganism, homosexuality and witchcraft.

Despite the fact that the parents have complied with these demands, and despite the fact that the children are once again living at home, and despite the fact that the eldest child (Machsejah Wunderlich, age 14) has made her own application to the court, the German social services have been obdurate in their refusal to return custody to the parents.

In his ruling, Judge Marcus Malkmus compared homeschooling to a “straitjacket” which allegedly condemns children to “years of isolation.” He continued: “The request of the parents to reinstate their right to determine the location of the children, the right to make educational decisions for the children, as well as the right to file legal applications for their children is being refused.”

Key documents in international law, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, grants parents the right of movement. However, in Germany this right does not extend to those wishing to homeschool. Last month’s ruling further declares,

It should be considered that emigration plans of the parents indicate that the parents will continue to prevent schooling of their children in a public school. Even though there are no suspicions of any parental care right abuses, besides the prevention of public school attendance, the further withdrawal of the part of parental care rights is considered necessary to help and support the education of the children, to ensure the children’s attendance of a regular school.

Dirk Wunderlich compared the ruling to policies of the Nazis
Dirk Wunderlich compared the ruling to policies of the Nazis

This totalitarian ruling starkly reveals the totalitarian drift of German secularism, which finds it increasingly

impossible to envision a society where differences can be tolerated. It is more than a little ironic that Judge Marcus defended these totalitarian measures on the grounds that homeschooling

allegedly prevents children from “having learned to be integrated or to have a dialogue with those who think differently and facing them in the sense of practicing tolerance.”

Dirk Wunderlich said the ruling is comparable to what happened under the Nazi regime.

“Judge Malkmus has erected another Berlin Wall apparently designed to prevent all parents who might leave to homeschool from leaving Germany. This is no different than what happened in the former East Germany under communism and before that under the Third Reich. We need help from others around the world to help our country see this terrible violation of human rights.”

By Robin Phillips

Christian Voice created significantly controversy on social media through defending traditional marriage
Christian Voice created significant controversy on social media through defending traditional marriage

Social media outlets exploded throughout 2013 with discussion of the resources Christian Voice provided to defend real marriage.

Building on our 2012 briefing paper The Trivialization of Matrimony, we devoted much of last year to publishing resources for Christians to better understand the issues surrounding same-sex ‘marriage.’ (A select list of those articles can be found at the end of this post.)

Little did we realize that our stand would reverberate throughout the internet. Our 2013 articles on marriage are still being debated through social media such as Facebook.

Below are some of the most controversial articles we published that were featured on Facebook, together with the hundreds of comments people left. To view the comments on any one article, click ‘comments’ on the bottom of each embedded post. Feel free to join in the ongoing discussions.

Research Uncovers Sexting Epidemic

4

By Robin Phillips

cell phoneNew research published last week in the journal Pediatrics shows that more than one in five middle-school aged children with behavioural or emotional problems have recently engaged in “sexting.”

This study builds on previous research by the Pew Internet & American Life Project which found that nearly a third of all seventeen-year olds have received a ‘sext’ at some time in their life.

In 2012 researchers at the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine studied 948 teenagers and found that 28 percent reported sending a naked picture of themselves via text or e-mail, while 31 percent had asked for explicit photos to be sent to them.

In Romans Paul warned us that when men cease glorifying God, they are given over to sinful lusts (Romans 1:21-24), and one of the results of these lusts is that they will invent new ways of doing evil. (1:30). We see this outworked today, as new technologies are providing sinful men and women with opportunities to devise new forms of sinning. Often these newly invented sins require new words to describe the deviant actions.

The evilness of sexting should be immediately apparent from scriptures such as Galatians 5:19, which condemns impurity and sensuality, or Romans 13:13 which commands us to not only avoid sexual promiscuity, but also sensuality.

In addition to the obvious lewdness and sensuality of sexting, the practice also reveals a deeper culture-wide pathology that is often overlooked. At a time when our digital technologies allow relationships without presence, many people are increasingly coming to view flesh and blood encounters as an unnecessary inconvenience. If co-habitation promises the pleasures of intimacy without the obligations of commitment, sexting promises the excitement of a sexual relationship without the encumbrances of actual intimacy. As such, it is the full flowering of the truly misogynist trajectory of the sexual revolution.

In this sense, sexting works on the same principle on which pornography has always hinged. But there is a crucial difference. The women who become victims of the porn industry are lured primarily by money and prestige; by contrast, women who participate in ‘sexting’ are lured by what promises to be a quick and easy substitute to the vulnerability and fragility attached to embodied relationships.

It may come as a surprise that women are sexting more than men. In one sense, of course, sexting makes women more vulnerable: a man who has no scruples when it comes to receiving or asking for explicit pictures is probably going to have no scruples when it comes to forwarding those pictures to his mates. A woman who engages in sexting thus sets herself up for the worst sort of public exploitation and is forever under the power of the man she trusted. But in another sense, sexting makes women less vulnerable, because a girl can experience the excitement of giving her body to a man without ever having to do business with him as an embodied person, without having to approach him in all her vulnerability, fragility and humanness. For many women, this is precisely the appeal of sexting. Sexting is thus seen as liberating sex from the problem that has dogged it from the beginning, namely having to deal with real people. An article in Sans Magazine was exuberant about sexting’s potential to free sexual relationships from the constraints that come with physical presence:

No longer do we actually have to commit to a single task of actually physically undressing, warming up our partner and then engaging in the carnal act of intercourse…. Plus, we don’t ever have to actually see the person.

This quote demonstrates how sexting is the culmination of the dehumanizing principles behind the sexual revolution. The promise of the sexual revolution was that intimacy could be fulfilling outside the obligations of marriage, a promise that researchers have now discovered to be false. The lie of the 21st century is that sex can be fulfilling without actual intimacy. This too will be found to be a lie. In the meantime, the problem is that by coupling sexual pathologies with extremely addictive digital technologies, that brain is being rewired to think differently about sex, relationships and what it means to be human.

The solution is a return to the Biblical understanding of what it means to love and what it means to be human. As Christians we recognize that it is God who created the powerful urge to physically connect with members of the opposite sex. But God also created the context in which that desire for physical connection can flourish and achieve its proper end.

BBC investigates Social Service child-snatching

Jayden Wray's vitamin deficiency was to blame for the broken bones which led to him being taken 'into care'.
Jayden Wray’s vitamin deficiency was to blame for the broken bones which led to him being taken ‘into care’.

The BBC’s flagship current affairs programme has investigated child-snatching by social services.

In a landmark edition of Panorama screened last night (13/01/2014) entitled ‘I want my baby back’, a number of cases of horrific injustice were revealed.

The programme is available to watch on BBC iPlayer for a year and is required – and sobering – viewing for anyone interested in families and justice in the United Kingdom.

According to the write-up: ‘Panorama reporter John Sweeney investigates the secretive world of the family courts and asks whether some parents may have unfairly lost their children forever’.

Presenter Sweeney traveled to Spain to interview one mother who fled the country after her elder daughter was taken and ‘freed’ for adoption in the secret family courts.

Like other parents in the film, and many others whose stories were not told, her child was taken after X-rays showed multiple bone fractures, leading to accusations that she or her partner had physically abused the infant.

But new evidence is linking fragile bones with vitamin D deficiency.  In the landmark case of baby Jayden Wray, his death from multiple fractures led to his parents being charged with murder and having their surviving child taken ‘into care’.

Paediatric Pathologist Irene Scheimberg's brilliance should lead to a major rethink on juvenile fractures.
Paediatric Pathologist Irene Scheimberg’s brilliance should lead to a major rethink on juvenile fractures.

But a post-mortem carried out by paediatric pathologist Dr Irene Scheimberg, interviewed for Panorama by John Sweeney, revealed that Jayden’s bones were so brittle they snapped in her fingers.

All charges were dropped by the police, and a judge ruled that Jayden’s bereaved parents should have their other child returned.

Some very uncomfortable details emerged during the Panorama programme.

Firstly, parents like those of Jayden Wray who protest their innocence are looked upon as uncooperative and ‘in denial’ by social workers, value-judgments which lessen their chances of being re-united with their child.  However, if they admit any kind of guilt, they won’t have their baby returned anyway.

Secondly, the programme revealed something of the merry-go-round of medical experts who are paid to present evidence on behalf of social services departments in the family courts.  Thousands of pounds are paid out for preparing evidence and presenting it at a hearing.  The experts find themselves depending on social services for a considerable income which they know will only continue if they present evidence which supports the position of social services, which appears always to hang on to a child until the bitter end.

Investigative journalist John Sweeney of Panorama
Investigative journalist John Sweeney of Panorama

One qualified expert radiographer even told a court that cases of vitamin D deficiency were unknown in white children of Caucasian parents, something which is blatantly untrue.

What the programme did not investigate was the huge sums paid to social services and adoption agencies in the event of a successful adoption.  This successor to targets, which also had financial rewards for being met, mean that a single baby is worth £27,000 in adoption grants to somebody.

That might explain why children’s charities always seem so keen on the present system and, put with panic over cases like that of ‘Baby Peter’ why SS departments are so eager to take children ‘into care’.

There are so many children in care now that a scheme to speed up the adoption process has recently been trialled.  This, according to the Guardian, has left parents reporting being ‘bulldozed’.

The only bit of possible good news is that Sir James Munby, president of the Family Division of the High Court, said in November last year that parents of children taken into care should no longer be gagged by the courts and journalists should be allowed to report on proceedings.  Only the death penalty is more drastic than removing a child, he has said.

But opening up the family courts is not going to happen any time soon, and until it does, what John Hemming MP described last night to Mr Sweeney as ‘a tsunami of injustice’ will continue in the secret family courts with their retinue of tame experts and their backdrop of adoption payments.

Muslims ‘almost 10%’ of under-fives

24
The fastest-growing religion in Manchester is Islam.
The fastest-growing religion in Manchester is Islam.

Figures from the 2011 census show that almost a tenth of under-fives are Muslims, double the overall percentage, claims The Times newspaper.

The figures show there were 3.5 million children aged 0-4 of whom 320,000 were Muslim. That proportion is 9.14%.

“It certainly is a startling figure,” said Professor David Coleman, Professor of Demography at the University of Oxford. “We have had substantial immigration of Muslims for a long time. Continuing immigration from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India has been added to by new immigration from African countries and from the Middle East.

“Birth rates of Muslims of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin remain quite high, although falling. There seem to be very low levels of falling away from religion among Muslims.”

The figure of 9.14% of under-fives compares with a total Muslim population among all age groups of less than five per cent.

One expert reported in the Daily Telegraph write-up said it was possible that Muslims who worshipped would outnumber practising Christians. “It’s not inconceivable,” said David Voas, Professor of Population Studies at the University of Essex.

In big cities the percentages are even more marked.  University of Manchester data analysed by Mancunian Matters revealed that Islam is out-growing every other religion in the city.

According to the data 12.5% of those identifying themselves as Muslim in Manchester in the 2011 census were aged between 0-4.

This is more than double the 5.6% of Christians aged 0-4 and significantly larger those of no religion at 6.8%.

Dr Hassan Alkatib, director of the Manchester Islamic Centre, told MM that Muslims tend to bring up children within the religion.  This differs from modern European ways of bringing up kids.

“Islam does not allow people to have sex outside marriage,” he said.

“So people get married into the religion and then their children are brought up in it.

“The size of Muslim families in general is double that of the European family and we have waves of Muslim immigrants coming to the UK.”

This explanation was echoed by Professor Simpson: “Maybe Christian parents consider religion as something their children will choose later, while Muslim parents consider their religion as an identity of origin, that their children have without choice,” he said.

Muslim fecundity dwarfs that of white and black Christians, even though the Bible records God telling Adam and Eve (Gen 1:28) to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:”

The command was repeated to the sons of Noah twice:

Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

Gen 9:7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

According to The Times, Professor Voas said he saw no prospect of Muslims becoming a majority in Britain. Rapidly growing Muslim families are making their mark on society, however. The Department for Education lists 136 Muslim schools, 125 of them in the private sector.

Britain’s first halal food festival, intended for the British Muslim middle classes, attracted 15,000 visitors to the London Excel in September. There are already 1,600 mosques.

In addition to that, Muslims are in a majority on Tower Hamlets London Borough Council despite being only 30% of the population. Out of 51 councillors, 31 are Muslim, drawn from Labour, the Independents and Respect.  Muslims also have a one-seat majority in the ruling Labour group.  The Mayor and his deputy are Muslims.

The Muslim majority has dominated Tower Hamlets for more than fifteen years.  In 2003 we reported that the Council recommended to the Boundaries Commission the aboliition or name-change of wards named after the Christian faith.  St Marys, St Peters, St James and Holy Trinity (the latter especially offensive to Muslims) were abolished.

Last year, a freedom of information request revealed that 25 Muslims organisations received a total of £378,000 from the £595,000 dished out under a mayoral scheme to improve places of worship.

In comparison, 12 Christian groups were handed £140,000 – with the rest of the grants distributed between a total of six Jewish, Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist organisations.

Matt 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Street Preacher Arrested in Dundee

Tony Miano
Tony Miano

American evangelist, Tony Miano, was arrested in Dundee Scotland, for mentioning homosexuality among a list of sexual sins.

The arrest, which took place yesterday, occurred on the grounds that Mr Miano allegedly used “homophobic language” during an open-air sermon.

The former police officer and chaplain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was released on bail after seven hours. He was formally charged with the crime of breach of peace through ‘homophobic aggravation.” Mr. Miano must return to Scotland on 22 April to stand trial.

The trouble started when Mr. Miano was preaching about the various sins Jesus saves us from to lunchtime shoppers on the city’s high street. After receiving a complaint from a woman who said her son is gay, two police officers arrested Mr. Miano without asking him any questions and without explaining the reasoning behind the arrest.

Pastor Josh Williamson of the Craigie Reformed Baptist Church in Perth, was part of the same preaching team and witnessed the event. He commented, “Tony wasn’t focussing just on homosexual practice – it was about all sin. A woman was yelling at him and her friend noticed we were filming the preaching, so she ran up to me and tried to smash my camera.”

“The female officer saw we had a camera and lunged for it and then the male policeman grabbed it and threw it in the police van,” said Mr Williamson.

Mr. Miano’s sermon was caught on film. Below is a word-for-word transcript of what he was arrested for saying:

“My friends, the reality is, we are all going to stand before God to give account for our lives.
“And whether our sin is sexual in nature or not, if we have violated his law in any way – whether it is homosexuality, whether it is refusing to abstain from evil in the heterosexual community and we are lusting after people we are indulging in fornication, but even beyond that if we have so much as told one lie – God sees us as a violator of his law, God does not see us as good.”

In the video below, Mr Miano tells about his arrest and encourages Christian preachers throughout the world to stand strong.

Paul declared in 2 Timothy 2:25-26 that “the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

This passage, and countless others, shows that believers not only have a responsibility to preach, but that they have a mandate to preach against specific sins. The fact that you can now get arrested for preaching against homosexuality does not change this reality. Pray that believers would take courage from Tony Miano’s stance and follow his example.

Withhold aid from persecuting nations

4
Liam Fox
Liam Fox MP

Britain should withhold aid to countries that persecute Christians, a senior Conservative has said.

Liam Fox, former Defence Secretary, said that it was “unacceptable” for taxpayers’ money to go to regimes that do not “represent our values” and refused to tolerate other religions.

“A lot of people find it increasingly unacceptable as we look round the world and we see persecution of Christians, for example, or persecution of other religious minorities. They say, ‘Why should our money be given to regimes and governments who are extremely intolerant when it comes to other people’s religions?’”

The Times reported that he singled out Pakistan and Somalia as countries that fell short of British “ethical values”.

A number of MPs have spoken out for Christians in the Middle East after Prince Charles last month warned of a “crisis” of organised persecution in the region.

The Prince of Wales said at a reception for Middle Eastern Christian leaders at Clarence House that “Christians in the Middle East are, increasingly, being deliberately targeted by fundamentalist Islamist militants.”

Days later the shadow foreign secretary, Douglas Alexander, in an article in the Sunday Telegraph, accused British politicians of having “forsaken” the cause of Christians in the Middle East.

Nigel Farage MEP
Nigel Farage MEP

Mr Fox’s call has been supported by CLAAS, which helps persecuted Christians in Pakistan, while Release International’s UK Director Colin King said: “2014 looks set to be a turbulent year for Christians – especially ahead of elections in Nigeria and Afghanistan”

At the end of last month, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said the UK should offer asylum to Syrian Christians.

After appearing to suggest earlier that the offer should be open to Muslims, he told the Jeremy Vine Show that Syrian Muslims could flee to neighbouring countries.

“It’s bad enough for Sunni and Shia. At least there are neighbouring countries that will take them,” he said.

“Where on Earth are the Christians going to go? Christians are now a seriously persecuted minority.”

The calls to support persecuted Christians come after a debate on persecution last month in the House of Commons.

Australian Court annuls ‘gay marriages’

12
Chris Teoh (left) and homosexual activist Ivan Hinton, had their 'marriage' overturned.
Chris Teoh (left) and homosexual activist Ivan Hinton, had their ‘marriage’ overturned.

Australia’s High Court has overturned legislation allowing gay marriage in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), reports the BBC.

The ACT parliament passed a bill in October making the territory the first part of Australia to legalise same-sex weddings.

But the national government challenged the decision, saying it was inconsistent with federal law, which specified in 2004 that marriage was between a man and a woman.  The court said the issue should be decided by parliament – which in September 2012 voted down gay marriage legislation.

It appears that the ACT legislators, and the activists who led a rush to ‘marry’ in the Territory, were attempting to ‘bounce’ Australia into federal-wide gay marriage. However, the result is that 27 tearful couples who ‘married’ since the law came into effect last weekend will now have their unions declared invalid.

In a statement, the Australian Christian Lobby, which opposes gay marriage, said: “Marriage between a man and a woman is good for society and beneficial for governments to uphold in legislation.

“It is about providing a future for the next generation where they can be raised by their biological parents, wherever possible,” the statement said, adding that “it is now time to move on”.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who leads a Liberal-National coalition, opposes same-sex marriage. Last year, a bill allowing same-sex marriage was voted down in both houses of Australia’s national parliament.

In April, New Zealand became the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to legalise gay marriage. Gay marriage is also legal in countries including the United Kingdom (from next year), Canada, France, Argentina, and South Africa, and some US states.

The Bible specifies that marriage is between a man and a woman, so Australia’s parliament stands on surer ground than the others mentioned. Jesus Christ took human sexuality right back to the way God made us when he said:

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

Becoming ‘one flesh’ speaks of an emotional and spiritual bond which is expressed at a physical level in the conjugal act. Two men or two women can never become ‘one flesh’, lacking between them the necessary complentary parts of the anatomy. They cannot be married.

Leviticus, which forms part of God’s revealed law code, condemns adultery, child sacrifice, homosexual acts and bestiality in consecutive verses:

Lev 18:20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. 21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

It is important for us to remember that Jesus Christ has the title of King of kings. God demands to rule in the affairs of men:

Psalm 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

Interestingly, after God warns the people of Israel against the sins listed above, he says:

Lev 18:24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

God brought judgment on the Canaanites. What will he do to Britain, to Canada, to France and New Zealand? The Bible singles out the lawmakers for criticism. In the words of the prophet Micah:

Micah 2:1 Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.

While the Psalmist says:

Psalm 5:5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Psalm 94:20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

Sadly, when a civilisation is overthrown, it is not only the leaders who perish. We all suffer. That is why the public good demands that Christians stand up, like the Australian Christian Lobby have done, like, with God’s grace and help, we are doing, and warn them from the word of God:

Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

If we do not warn, we are like Ezekiel’s famous watchman, who saw trouble coming and did not warn the people:

Eze 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

Parliament Debates Contemporary Persecution of Christians

4

By Robin Phillips

r_seaman@hotmail.comMPs debated the persecution of Christians on 3rd December, noting that “Christianity is the most persecuted religion globally.”

The debate, which was secured by the Democratic Unionist party and moved by Shadow DUP Spokesperson for Human Rights, Jim Shannon, highlighted the increasing hostility against Christians that has been growing throughout the 21st century.

Concern about global attacks against Christians follows research by the Pew Research Centre which acknowledged that Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world.

During the course of Tuesday’s discussion, concern was raised about the safety of Christians living in the following countries: North Korea, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Niger, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Burma, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, Yemen, Mexico, Lebanon, Colombia, Guatemala, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan.

Tuesday’s debate discussed a number of practical measures that can be pursued by the foreign office to highlight the scale of this problem. The session culminated in the following motion being agreed upon:

“That this House is concerned that the persecution of Christians is increasing in the 21st Century; notes that there are reports that one Christian is killed every 11 minutes somewhere on earth for their faith; further notes that Christianity is the most persecuted religion globally; bears in mind that the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion is a human right stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and calls on the Government to do more both in its foreign policy and through its aid work to defend and support people of Christian faith.”

A transcript of the proceedings can be read here, while a full video of the debate can be watched below:

KEY QUOTATIONS FROM THE DEBATE

“Let us be honest: if this were happening to almost any other religious group it would be something of a national scandal.” Mark Field (Cities of London and Westminster) (Con)

“One hundred thousand Christians will be massacred this year because of their beliefs. Two hundred million Christians will be persecuted due to their faith. One and a half billion Christians live in what can be termed as dangerous neighbourhoods. That shows the magnitude of the problem of persecuted Christians….

“In Syria, Christians are caught between opposing sides in the conflict. There are an increasing number of missile and mortar attacks in Christian neighbourhoods in cities such as Damascus and Aleppo. Jihadists are now widely understood to have infiltrated the rebel movement in Syria. They specifically targeted Christian villages such as Maaloula, in September, and more recently Sadad, where 45 people were killed. Such incidents demonstrate what is happening….

“In Libya, Christians have been murdered for failing to agree to convert to Islam. The fall in the number of Christians across the region is very evident in Iraq.

In Iraq, the violence is increasing. It is the Sunnis against the Shi’ites; the Kurds against the Turks, against the Arabs; the federalists against the separatists; the nationalists against the international jihadists; anti-Government versus pro-Government. Underneath all those levels of disagreement, the region’s indigenous, long-suffering, besieged remnant Christians will be the victims of every contact targeted by all forces. They are the target of every one of those groups.”

Jim Shannon (Democratic Unionist MP for Strangford)

“The fact is that Christians face persecution and harassment in more countries than any other faith group.” Mark Lazarowicz (Labour MP for Edinburgh North and Leith)

“…the depressing paradox that some of the worst persecution is taking place in notional democracies… In some cases, the Christian population would be better looked after under a dictatorship—such as in Syria under President Assad—than in a country that is notionally democratic. This is not simply a matter of saying that a whole load of democratic rights will follow on from religious freedoms. We must ensure that religious and individual freedoms go hand in hand and that they do not find themselves in conflict with each other.” Mark Field (Conservative MP for cities of London and Westminster)

“The Minister says that we should not focus too much on Christians—I understand that—but if we accept that argument we should not have complained about the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany because that would have made them a target. I do not necessarily accept all his arguments. He must accept that the overwhelming number of persecutions in the world today are against Christians. That is a fact, and so we have to focus on Christians for better or worse….

“I have been to Iraq, and I can assure you, Mr Speaker, that there is nothing more terrible than what happened to a mother I spoke to. The last time she saw her child was when he went off to church with her husband. The husband was kidnapped and never seen again. The child was murdered just because of his religion—for no other reason. My friend and I will never forget those conversations, because those attacks revealed an appalling level of hate. We invaded Iraq and we have a responsibility, so we cannot pass by on the other side. Maybe we invaded for good reasons, but we do have a responsibility.” Sir Edward Leigh (Conservative MP for Gainsborough)
“…there is a risk of the Foreign Office not appreciating the real growing concern about the global persecution of Christians…. There is a global issue about the persecution of Christians in a number of defined countries. If he looks around, he will discover that what the House wants to hear is what the Foreign Office will be doing differently to address that persecution.” ” Sir Tony Baldry (Conservative MP for Banbury)

“Open Doors has warned that Christians are on the verge of extinction in Iraq, where their population has fallen from 1.2 million in the early 1990s to just 333,000 today. In Iran, Christians have had to flee their homes or the country, Muslims who have renounced Islam face the death penalty and Christians are being sentenced to 80 lashes for drinking communion wine. The special rapporteur on human rights in Iran reported that more than 300 Christians have been arrested since 2010, including Saeed Abedini, who was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for this work with the house churches.

“…Open Doors ranked Saudi Arabia second on its world watch list, with only North Korea ahead of it. Conversion to a religion other than Islam is punishable by death, and Christian worshippers risk imprisonment, lashing, deportation and torture. It is important to note that last month saw the elections, mostly uncontested, to the Human Rights Council, of which Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, as well as China, are now members. I echo the comments I made about the Commonwealth club. If these countries are to be members of the Human Rights Council, they need to be demonstrating in their own countries that they are putting respect for human rights into practice.” Kerry McCarthy (Labour MP for Bristol East)

“There is a severe danger, as we start to celebrate the feast of Christmas in this country, that Christianity will be almost completely erased from the traditional middle east Holy Land of the Bible. Joseph would not now be advised to take Mary to Egypt to avoid the dangers of Herod, because Jesus would just not have been safe there today….

“Every week, because of my responsibilities in this House, I read the excellent newspaper the Church Times, and every week it has heart-rending stories of Christians being persecuted in Pakistan, Syria, Egypt and a whole host of other countries. Those stories never get reported in the mainstream newspapers. There is serious under-reporting of what is happening to Christians, many of whom—this is true of generations of Christians throughout the centuries—are being evicted, persecuted and driven from their homelands.” Sir Tony Baldry (Conservative MP for Banbury)

“it is particularly painful that in Afghanistan, where there has been so much suffering and sacrifice by our troops and where so much aid and assistance has been given, no churches at all are left, and Christians are unable to meet in public because they have been subject to numerous cases of kidnapping, assassinations and abductions.

The same applies in Iraq. Canon Andrew White, who has been mentioned, has said that Christians in Iraq
“are frightened even to walk to church because they might come under attack. All the churches are targets… We used to have 1.5 million Christians, now we have probably only 200,000 left… There are more Iraqi Christians in Chicago than there are here….

“There is a growing problem in Africa, where Islamist extremism has penetrated much of what is happening in many countries in terms of uprisings and destabilisation, for example. In Nigeria, there is a serious attempt by Boko Haram to create an Islamic state and to annihilate Christians and Christianity. I could also mention Kenya, Eritrea, where the situation is particularly bad, and the Central African Republic, among others.” Nigel Dodds (Democratic Unionist MP for Belfast North)

“We can go beyond the Islamic countries to Korea, where 70,000 Christians languish in prison, some of them in the most horrible conditions. I do not want to start telling lots of individual stories, but one struck me in particular. We found in Northern Ireland during the troubles that people can get numbed by numbers—they come to be seen as just statistics, rather than as highlighting the real suffering behind them—but 6,000 Christians are languishing in prison No. 15 in North Korea. They are regularly brought out on a Sunday, and two people are selected and paraded in front of the rest of their fellow Christians, stabbed with pointed bamboos and called on to renounce their faith because then the torture will then stop. Many of them, of course, finish up being murdered because they will not renounce their faith. Leaving aside the huge numbers, that is the kind of horror and individual human suffering we are talking about.” Sammy Wilson (Democratic Unionist MP for East Antrim)

Baby Forcibly Extracted from Womb During Nightmare Visit to the UK

Alessandra Pacchieri
Alessandra Pacchieri (with an unidentified friend)

By Robin Phillips

Alessandra Pacchieri is being represented by Stefano Oliva, who has described the actions of the British government as "sheer brutality."
Alessandra Pacchieri is being represented by Stefano Oliva, who has described the actions of the British authorities as “sheer brutality.”

An Italian mother is working to get her baby back following a forced Caesarean section during a visit to Britain last year.

The mother of two was sedated and forcibly operated upon after Essex Social Services deemed she was unfit to be a mother.

The Italian Government has expressed outrage.

The nightmarish series of events began last June when Alessandra Pacchieri travelled from her native Italy to Essex for a two-week training course with Ryanair at Stansted Airport in Essex.

Having had a history of ‘manic episodes’, Alessandra was on medication. Concerned that her drugs might harm her unborn baby, Alessandra stopped taking them and had a panic attack as a result. During her panic attack Alessandra phoned the police.

TRICKED BY THE POLICE

Upon arrival at her hotel room, the police made telephone contact with Alessandra’s mother, who informed them about her daughter’s condition and explained that Alessandra needed to take her medication.

“They said they wanted to take me to hospital to check my baby was OK” Alessandra explained. “I agreed to go with them.”

It wasn’t until they arrived at the ‘hospital’ that Alessandra realized that she’d been tricked. To her horror, she found herself locked in a psychiatric unit where she was held against her will. Alessandra was prevented from returning either to the hotel or to her native Italy.

Months went by, during which time Alessandra was still banned from returning to her family in Italy.

“I begged the doctors to let me go back to my country” Alessandra recalls. “I said I wanted to go to court to get it sorted out.”

FORCED CAESAREAN

By now Alessandra was nearing the end of her pregnancy. On Friday, 24th August 2012, four days before her due date, Alessandra went to prepare her breakfast as she had done every other morning. But this time she found the hospital kitchen locked. Officials informed her that she couldn’t have breakfast because she would be having a C-section.

“I was crying. I could feel my baby kicking inside me. I begged them not to do the caesarean. The due date was four days later and there was no reason for me to have such an invasive operation with anaesthetic. I wanted a natural birth.”

Alessandra’s protests were ignored. To her horror, she found herself strapped down by a team of five nurses and forcibly sedated.

A few hours later Alessandra woke up to find that she was no longer pregnant. While asleep her child—a baby girl—had been forcibly extracted from the womb and handed over to Essex social services. Alessandra was allowed to hold her baby intermittently for the first few days although she was commanded not to breast feed. On the third day, she was informed that the baby was being completely removed.

Little did Alessandra realize that this forced Caesarean had been carefully planned and authorized by the secret courts. A transcript from the hearing in which Mr Justice Mostyn approved the procedure, reveals the judge telling the court: “She should not know about this order before she is taken and goes to hospital.” The judge authorised the use of “reasonable and proportionate force” if needed.

FORCED ADOPTION

The forced Caesarean was just the beginning of Alessandra’s British nightmare.

Throughout the following autumn Alessandra was allowed access to her daughter for half an hour once a week. In two family court hearings in Chelmsford, Alessandra pleaded to have her child returned to her and to be allowed to go home with her baby to Italy, but to no avail. The child had already been earmarked for adoption.

In October 2012, social services obtained formal permission to put Alessandra’s daughter up for adoption. Only then was Alessandra able to return to Italy.

Back in Italy Alessandra received treatment for her condition. Having completely recovered, she now maintains a home and holds down a job. Yet the authorities in England will not allow her to see her child.

Alessandra returned to Britain earlier this year for a hearing at Chelmsford County Court. While Judge Roderick Newton criticized the local authority for going against the advice of the doctors who had urged the baby to be left with her mother at the hospital, he did not reverse the decision.

In a desperate attempt to keep her daughter within the family, Alessandra has requested that her baby be allowed to go and live with her husband’s sister, who has been recognized as a very capable mother. However, Essex Social Services have refused to even consider this option on the grounds that the baby’s aunt has no “blood” tie to the baby even though she is technically kin. In the minds of Essex social services, placing a baby with a complete stranger is preferable to letting her live with kin.

INTERNATIONAL CONTROVERSY

These events have created international controversy this week, and threaten to strain relations between Italy and the UK. An eminent judge in Milan has declared that a forced caesarean under sedation is an act of extreme violence.
“Your family courts and your social workers invaded my body and stole my baby”, Alessandra told the UK press. “I believe that the British authorities planned to adopt my daughter from the very beginning.”

“Something very unfair has been done to me. I am fighting to get my daughter back and I never want another innocent mother in your country to suffer as I have.”

‘PURE BRUTALITY’

Melita’s lawyer, Stefano Oliva, commented that these events were “unprecedented” and added that he was amazed to see this happening in a European country. “I’ve been a lawyer for 20 years,” he said. “I’ve never seen something like this.”

“Judges can have a different opinion than you, or not look at the papers correctly, but in the particular case I’ve seen pure brutality.”

“Such an invasive treatment of my client, forcing birth from her – I can’t think that any Italian judge would have done it under any circumstance.”

“She has proved to the Italian social services that she is trustworthy”

Mr Oliva went on to compare the case to events that occurred under Hitler or in North Korea. “To snatch children from their own family has happened in history, under other regimes in which there was no democracy – think of the Hitler Youth or the gathering of children in North Korea.

“You can’t think of this happening in a Western European country, a European Union country.”

“She’s a mother. And like all mothers, she wants to be with her daughter. She realises that she has problems.”

“She’s now getting treatment, she’s doing better, she has a job. She has proved to the Italian social services that she is trustworthy.”

Tom Daley seduced by older man

Tom Daley in his video
Tom Daley in his video

Since the Olympic diver Tom Daley announced he was ‘in a relationship’ ‘with a guy’ the papers have been in a frenzy to find out the identity of the mystery ‘boyfriend’.

Our suspicions that it would turn out to be an older man have now been confirmed by a number of tabloids.

The individual concerned is American screenwriter and gay rights activist Dustin Lance Black who at 39 is more than twice Daley’s age.  It was Black who encouraged Daley to make his ill-considered video announcement.

The Daily Mirror reports that the diver ‘looks up to’ Black whom he met in March.  It would not be a stretch of the imagination to wonder if Black is filling the void left by Daley’s late father, Robert, who died tragically two years ago at the age of just 40.  The diver was devoted to his father, who never saw his son fulfill his dream of competing at the Olympic Games – and winning a medal.

Writing on Eurosport, Desmond Kane said: ‘In his private moments, Daley must feel like he has been shorn of his support network. The trademark smile must hide a lot with his mum being forced to deal with such ongoing grief. It all remains very raw.’

The Mirror also said that Daley and Black have fallen for each other’.  If Daley is having a sort of adolescent crush compensating for his dreadful loss, Dustin Black probably cannot believe his luck.  He has been able to initiate a teenage boy into sexual activities he probably would not even have known about this time last year.

A teenage crush on a teacher or classmate of the same sex is not uncommon, but the great majority grow out of such desires and progress to heterosexuality.  The danger comes when authority figures or role models signal that such feelings are indicative of an inate ‘orientation’.  For this reason as well as concern for his own development, it is encouraging at least that Tom Daley has refused to identify as ‘gay’ and has said he is still attracted to girls.

In April 2010 the American College of Pediatricians cautioned “educators about the management of students experiencing same-sex attraction or exhibiting symptoms of gender confusion.”

A press release explained:

‘The College reminds school superintendents that it is not uncommon for adolescents to experience transient confusion about their sexual orientation and that most students will ultimately adopt a heterosexual orientation if not otherwise encouraged. For this reason, schools should not seek to develop policy which “affirms” or encourages these non-heterosexual attractions among students who may merely be experimenting or experiencing temporary sexual confusion. Such premature labeling can lead some adolescents to engage in homosexual behaviors that carry serious physical and mental health risks.’

The Apostle Paul warned believers In Corinth that those engaged in homosexual activity would not ‘inherit the kingdom of God.’  In a perceptive following verse, he reminded these early Christians that some of them had not only been forgiven their sins but actually delivered from what the Bible describes as ‘vile affections’ by the power of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit:

1Cor 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

The fact remains that, as the Lord Jesus himself said:

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

And despite all the campaigning for ‘gay marriage’ by people like Justin Black, becoming ‘one flesh’, in the full emotional and conjugal sense implied  by the Lord Jesus, is something a pair of homosexual men or women can never do.

Please pray for Tom Daley (and other young people experiencing similar emotional turmoil) that his homosexual feelings will indeed be transient and that he will grow out of them.  Pray that God will protect him from the diseases inherent in unnatural activity and that the Almighty will send people across his path to lead him onto the true way.

Men’s and Women’s brains ‘wired differently’

Male brains are wired front to back, with few connections bridging the two hemispheres. In females, the connections criss-cross between left and right
Male brains are wired front to back, with few connections bridging the two hemispheres. In females, the connections criss-cross between left and right

US researchers at the University of Pennsylvania scanned the brains of nearly 1,000 men, women, boys and girls and found striking differences, reports the BBC.

The “connectome maps” reveal the differences between the male brain (seen in blue) and the female brain (orange)

Male brains are wired front to back, with few connections bridging the two hemispheres. In females, the connections criss-cross between left and right.

These differences might explain why men, in general, tend to be better at learning and performing a single task, like cycling or navigating, whereas women are more equipped for multitasking, say the researchers in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

The same volunteers were asked to perform a series of cognitive tests, and the results appeared to support this notion.

Women scored well on attention, word and face memory, and social cognition. Men performed better on spatial processing and sensori-motor speed.

Researcher Dr Ruben Gur said: “It’s quite striking how complementary the brains of women and men really are.

“Detailed connectome maps of the brain will not only help us better understand the differences between how men and women think, but it will also give us more insight into the roots of neurological disorders, which are often sex related.”

On the same day, under a headline ‘Britain ravaged by sexism: women know your place!’ the Daily Telegraph reported that nearly four in 10 Brits believe women should not work in a range of jobs including soldier, pilot, mechanic or surgeon, suggesting sexism is still “prevalent” in the workplace.

Some 40 per cent of the UK population also believe men should not do jobs such as midwife, nurse, nanny or beautician, the study of 2,026 adults found.

Among the least trusted professionals are male nannies, female electricians, male primary school teachers and female bus drivers, the study by WorldPay Zinc, a payment processing firm, revealed.

Geraldine Wilson, managing director of WorldPay Zinc, said: “People in Britain are prone to stereotyping men and women based on their gender. Strong opinions on which jobs are for men and which are for women still exist, as do beliefs that men are better in stereotypically masculine roles such as plumber and electrician, whilst women make better nurses and florists.  Both sexes are still being held back from pursuing occupations that might not be seen as suitable for their gender.”

Throughout the survey men “expressed more dated opinions and attitudes than women”, voicing a lack of trust in both men and women doing jobs not historically associated with their gender. Only 56 per cent of men believe that women should be free to do any job they like. Similarly, only 52 per cent of men think that men should be able to become beauticians, nannies or midwives.

In the Bible, men did the heavy lifting and the fighting while midwives were female and women cared for all children until boys left the care of their mother and began to learn their father’s business at the age of 12 or 13.  The girls stayed under their mother’s care but under their father’s authority.

In addition, God gave leadership roles to men:

Exod 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

And the Prophet Isaiah condemned a society in which men had relinquished their leadership roles:

Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

So perhaps the minority who would restrict jobs according to sex are driven, not by sexism and dated opinions, but by scriptural truth and up-to-date science.

Chief of pro-gay Coop Bank caught doing drugs

'Smug': Paul Flowers
‘Smug’: Paul Flowers

The former Co-op Bank chairman, who oversaw the organisation’s near collapse, has been caught using hard drugs.

The Rev Paul Flowers, 63, who it appears is also a Methodist minister, was filmed buying crack cocaine, crystal meth and ketamine, counting out hundreds of pounds in £20 notes days after appearing in front of MPs on the Treasury Select Committee to be questioned about the Co-operative Bank’s financial problems.

Earlier this year the Co-op was forced to pull out of its proposed takeover of the TSB branches of Lloyds-TSB because of a near £1bn hole in its accounts.

In an additional irony, Paul Flowers is himself homosexual and was outed as a drug user by a man he met on a gay dating site disgustingly called ‘Grindr’ in October.  The man apparently objected to Flowers using drugs to take advantage of younger men at his parties.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Rev Flowers, who resigned from the bank in June after the disastrous state of its finances were revealed, texted: “I was “grilled” by the Treasury Select Committee yesterday and afterwards came to Manchester to get wasted with friends.”

In another message he apparently boasted that his plans were ‘turning into a two day, drug fuelled gay orgy!!!’

Paul Flowers boasted about the success of the Co-op Bank, saying it would be ‘easy to be smug’ in 2011, two years after it took over the Brittania Building Society and its toxic debts and two years before its financial problems came to light.

He has been suspended by the Methodist Church for three weeks and by the Labour Party, for whom he was a local councillor.

In 2005 the Co-op Bank terminated the bank account of Christian Voice as part of its ‘diversity’ policy objecting to ‘discriminatory pronouncements on grounds of sexual orientation’. The Co-op said the group was ‘incompatible with the position of the Co-operative Bank, which publicly supports diversity and dignity’.

The Co-op Bank’s self-styled and much-trumpeted ‘ethical’ stance has now come back to haunt it, with even the Daily Mirror putting the word in inverted commas in its report on the Flowers scandal.  Both the Telegraph and the Mirror claim that Flowers’ drug habit was well known by Labour MPs at Westnminster, prompting the question: ‘How much did his colleagues at the Co-op know about his lifestyle – and did they care?’

United States Jumps on Population Control Bandwagon

By Robin Phillips

Population Control Guru is ‘Science Envoy’ to Muslim Nations

President Obama has sent population control guru, John Holdren, on missions of ‘science diplomacy’ to the rest of the world.
President Obama has sent population control guru, John Holdren, on missions of ‘science diplomacy’ to the rest of the world

The Obama administration has been sending population control guru, John Holdren, to Muslim nations in what it calls ‘science diplomacy.’

The official purpose of ‘science diplomacy’ is to bridge the so called ‘cultural gap’ between the United States and the rest of the world.

John P Holdren, director of the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, uses these visits to meet his counterparts in foreign nations, along with his team of ‘Science Envoys.’

The man Obama has chosen to represent America is on record as saying that the world has far too many people. In a testimony before the Senate in 1974, Holdren teamed up with Paul Ehrlich to argue that overpopulation was heading the world towards a no-growth economy.

In an essay collaborated with Ehrlich in 1969, titled ‘Population and Panaceas: A Technological Perspective’, Holdren suggested that “man’s present technology is inadequate to the task of maintaining the world’s burgeoning billions, even under the most optimistic assumptions.” Even advancements to increase food supply, he argued, would be fruitless until “the population growth rate drastically reduced.”

In his 1973 book, co-authored with the Ehrlichs, calledHuman Ecology: Problems and Solutions, Holdren wrote that toddlers, let alone babies in the womb, are not fully human:

“The fetus, given the opportunity to develop properly before birth, and given the essential early socializing experiences and sufficient nourishing food during the crucial early years after birth, will ultimately develop into a human being.”

In the book he set out a pro-abortion, pro-sterilisation Doomsday scenario which could only be averted by a sudden and rapid decrease in the population.

“Humanity cannot afford to muddle through the rest of the twentieth century,” he asserted. “This may be the last opportunity to choose our own and our descendants’ destiny” (p. 944). The eco-catastrophe Holdren and Ehrlich predicted by the year 2000 failed to materialise.

Myron Ebell, director of international energy and global warming policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has drawn attention to Holdren’s history of false predictions: “Dr. Holdren has a record only surpassed by his longtime collaborator Paul Ehrlich for spreading misinformation and making failed predictions.”

“In addition, Dr. Holdren has advocated a wide array of despicable policies, such as mandatory population control, and was a willing stooge of the Soviet Union as a member for several decades of the Pugwash Conference (and of which he was chairman when it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995),” Ebell added. “John Holdren is therefore the perfect “science diplomat” for an administration that peddles junk science and supports policies that will make poor people, and especially poor people in poor countries, poorer.  As President Obama’s science diplomat, he can now advocate for global impoverishment on a global stage.”

Obama Supports China’s One-Child Policy

Why would Obama choose a population control guru like Holdren to represent America abroad? Could it be a simple oversight? Hardly! From the day he took office, Obama has sided with the powerful population control lobby, giving tens of millions of dollars in subsidies to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which helps to fund China’s population control agenda.

The Obama Administration reflects a growing sympathy among Western politicians towards China’s family planning policies.

At the UN Climate Change Conference 2009, Chinese government’s delegation argued that their country’s one-child-only-policy should “serve as a model for integrating population programs into the framework of climate change adaptation.” Zhao Baige, vice-minister of the National Population and Family Planning Commission of China said that China’s policy of forced population control “has made a great historic contribution to the well-being of society.”

The Chinese delegates also cited the UN’s own State of World Population 2009 report, put out by UNFPA, which suggests that if the global population can be kept to 8 billion by the year 2050 (it is currently projected to increase to just over 9 billion), “it might result in 1 billion to 2 billion fewer tons of carbon emissions.”

The irony is that, despite its draconian population control measures, China leads the world in CO2 emissions. Nevertheless, this Communist nation has been praised for its contribution to the world’s ecology. Sven Burmester, a representative of the UNFPA, said, “China has had the most successful family planning policy in the history of mankind in terms of quantity and with that, China has done mankind a favor.”

Canada’s Financial Post also praised China for its contribution to the environment. “Despite its dirty coal plants,” said the Canadian equivalent of America’s Wall Street Journal, “[China] is the world’s leader in terms of fashioning policy to combat environmental degradation, thanks to its one-child-only edict.” The paper calls China’s solution a “simple” and “dramatic” fix that, if extended to other nations, would reduce global population by 50 percent by 2075.

From Eugenics to Environmentalism

Population control has an impressive pedigree among the sages of the West. In fact, until the early twentieth century, it was politically fashionable for liberals to talk about finding ways to reduce the “surplus population.” Twentieth-century advocates of population control often drew on the social theories of men like Thomas Malthus and Charles Darwin’s cousin Sir Francis Galton, who, a century earlier, had argued that the poor were draining the world’s recourses. (One of Malthus’s solutions for reducing the “surplus population” was to introduce policies specifically designed to bring death to large numbers of peasants. For example, he encouraged poor people to move near swamps, so they would catch diseases and begin dying off.)

In the early twentieth century, Malthusian ideas on population control were linked to theories of eugenics and social Darwinism. It was not until Hitler tried to move these ideas out of the anthropology class and into the gas chamber that population control stopped being a politically correct topic—for a while.

But it didn’t take long for the spectre of Hitler to wear off. Following the huge birth explosion that occurred in the decades after World War II, the issue of population control gradually returned to the national limelight. But this time, instead of being explicitly linked to theories like eugenics and social Darwinism, it was propelled by the emerging ideology of environmentalism.

While it was no longer politically correct to appeal specifically to social planners like Galton and Malthus, the basic concern of these men—namely, that because the resources on earth remain limited, there will be a demographic Armageddon if the human population continues to expand—was revived but packaged as ecological responsibility. Thus, it became politically correct once again to advocate population control. The American Eugenics Society (founded in 1922, as social Darwinism was laying the foundations for the Nazi experiment) jumped on this bandwagon but attempted to garner more respectability in 1972 by changing its name to the Society for the Study of Social Biology.

As the twentieth century wore on, however, something happened to change the tide once again. The key factor this time was not that the world’s population had stopped growing, but that it had stopped growing in the West. (Many factors contributed to this. It became fashionable for women to marry late, while books like The Feminine Mystique helped make women feel guilty if their greatest ambition was to be a wife and mother. These things, together with the rise in abortion and homosexuality, meant that the birthrate in the West began to decline steadily.)

This fact alone would not have been sufficient to change the direction of the population debate, since population continued to grow worldwide (though at a significantly lower rate). However, by this time the specter of racism loomed large in the background of almost every debate. It did not take long before people began realizing that if Western populations were decreasing while non-Western ones were growing, and if the former are primarily white and the latter primarily brown, then calling for a lower international birthrate was equivalent to calling for fewer brown babies. And that left one open to charges of racism.

Thus did population control become politically incorrect once again. English journalist Anthony Browne lamented this shift in his 2006 book The Retreat of Reason: “Now that the population of the West has stopped growing, concern about overpopulation has become very unfashionable because, as Tony Benn put it, it means wanting fewer brown babies. The combination of Western guilt and fear of racism has all but killed off public concern about overpopulation in the last few decades.”

But even as Browne was writing, the wheels of one more paradigm shift slowly began to turn. Thanks to the increased hysteria about global warming, talk about overpopulation has become politically correct once again. As Garry Egger of the New South Wales Centre for Health Promotion and Research insists, “The debate [about population control] needs to be reopened as part of a second ecological revolution” The UNFPA has framed the issue like this on its website: “Greenhouse gases would not be accumulating so hazardously had the number of earth’s inhabitants not increased so rapidly, but remained at 300 million people, the world population of 1,000 years ago, compared with 6.8 billion today.”

The connection between global warming and a renewed interest in population control was evident in a report commissioned by the Optimum Population Trust in August 2009. Titled “Fewer Emitters, Lower Emissions, Less Cost,” the report argued that the best way to combat global warming would be to reduce the population through contraception and abortion. The utilitarian logic was simple: Fewer people = fewer polluters.

The reality is that most CO2 emissions are not the result of man-made technology at all, but occur naturally, as in the water vapor released by the oceans and through the consumption of vegetation by animals and microbes. But this “inconvenient truth” doesn’t fit the environmentalists’ story line, so they routinely ignore it. To them, the earth has a surplus population of polluters, and those polluters are the human population.

This “fact” is considered so obvious to them that only “deniers,” who are “motivated by religious-right attitudes,” could possibly think otherwise. Or so said population control advocate Morris Sullivan in a 1999 article for impactpress.com, titled “Population Control: How Many Are Too Many?” Claiming that problems such as global warming are “at least partially due to growing world population,” Sullivan wrote that “it’s hard to imagine anyone opposing restraints on population controls.” While acknowledging that “such people exist,” he asserted that the best of them “are well-meaning optimists blinded by their denial,” while the others “have more pernicious motivations—like greed and religious fanaticism.”

Paul Watson, a co-founder of Greenpeace, was even more severe. In a 2007 article for seashepherd.org, he wrote that we humans act “in the same manner as an invasive virus” and that we are “killing our host the planet Earth.” This requires, he continued, a “radical and invasive” cure. How invasive? “We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion.”

Contracept for Credit

Even with the fate of planet Earth supposedly hanging in the balance, Western nations are a long way off from advocating the forced abortion policies of China. Nevertheless, global warming is continually put forward as a reason for increasing the availability of contraception, abortion, “comprehensive” sex education, and family planning services. The National Wildlife Federation, for example, put out a Population and Global Warming Fact Sheet (http://cf.nwf.org/globalwarming/pdfs/climatefactsheet.pdf) calling for better “family planning and related health care and education.” “Providing these services,” claims the federation, “will not only reduce poverty and improve the lives of many, it will reduce the danger of climate change and other environmental stressors.”

Dr. Barry Walters, a professor of obstetrics at the University of Western Australia, argued a few years ago that those who refuse to use contraception should be levied with a climate-change tax. In a 2007 article in the Medical Journal of Australia, Dr. Walters proposed that such a tax be assessed on all couples having more than two children. He suggested an initial fine of $5,000 for each “extra” child when born, with another $800 assessed every year thereafter. However, parents could redeem themselves by using contraceptives or undergoing sterilization procedures, for which they would receive carbon credits.

Those who propose these schemes are unconcerned by the obvious fact that a sparse population is, in general, a poorer population. Consider that the more people there are, the greater division of labor there can be, the more capital there will be, the more hands there will be to tend gardens, and, as a result, the more fruitful the earth and human society can become. The industrial revolution would never have been possible if Europe’s population had remained at the levels it was at during the Middle Ages.

These facts are conveniently ignored by the gurus of population control, such as John Holdren, as he and his ‘Science Envoys’ go around representing America.

‘Involuntary Fertility Control’

This 1977 book floats the idea of ‘involuntary fertility control’ as a possible solution to over-population.
This 1977 book floats the idea of ‘involuntary fertility control’ as a possible solution to over-population.

Thankfully, public calls for compulsory sterilization are no longer mainstream as they were in the early twentieth century. Nevertheless, the Mr Holdren’s high profile position suggests that the tide may be turning.

In 1977 Holdren helped to co-author the controversial textbook, Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment. The book discussed drastic measures that could be implemented if population continued to increase. Plans discussed in the book include “coercive,” “involuntary fertility control,” including “a program of sterilizing women after their second or third child.”

They also suggest forcing single women to abort their babies, implanting sterilizing capsules in people when they reach puberty and spiking public reserves and staple foods with a chemical that would lead to sterility. To help achieve those goals, the authors suggest it might be necessary to formulate a “world government scheme” with an “armed international organization, a global analogue of a police force” to enforce population control measures.

Holdren’s controversial 1977 book declares: “Indeed, it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.”

“Unfortunately,” they add, “such a program therefore is not practical for most less developed countries….”

The word ‘unfortunately’ is significant, since it suggests that Holdren & co. would be quite happy to see these type of draconian measures implemented if they got the chance.

The Truth About Muslim ‘Extremism’

3

By Robin Phillips

INDONESIA MILITANTS DISBANDWriting in Front Page Magazine last week, Daniel Greenfield made some insightful observations about Islamic ‘extremism.’

In the West we tend to associate Islamic extremism with guns, bombs and terrorism, and with good reason. However, in Muslim nations, Islamic extremism is about a lot more than violence.

In Muslim nations, the battle between extremists and ‘moderates’ is about whether people can listen to music, play chess and watch soccer games. It’s about whether women can drive cars or men can shave their beards.

Greenfield also goes on to point out that the difference between ‘extremist Muslims’ and ‘moderate Muslims’ obscures an important reality.

Distinguishing moderate and extreme Muslims is as useful as making distinctions between moderate and extreme Communists. These distinctions did and do exist, but they are less relevant in the context of an overall ideology whose goals are war, dominance and subjugation.

A moderate Communist was still a pretty terrible person. Likewise, a moderate president of Iran is still a political force in a theocracy that discriminates against non-Muslims, engages in regional religious wars and denies many civil rights to half the population.

Western liberals obscure this basic fact in their obsession with finding moderates to talk to. Moderate Muslims are still extreme by the standards of the West. They still support violence; the only difference is that they are more willing to try non-violent methods of conquest first.

In the long run, how much difference is there between the moderate slave owner who tricks his slaves into putting on their own chains and the extremist slave owner who makes them do it at gunpoint?

The end result is still the same. And that is the problem.

Greenfield concluded his article on the following sobering note:

It will not matter much if the civilization we know is lost and if the freedoms we are familiar with are taken away by the moderates who play the long political game or the extremists who play the short and violent game. It will make a difference to the great-grandchildren of our conquerors who will be able to play chess or fly kites; but our great-grandchildren will still be as fundamentally unequal as the Copts of Egypt or the Jews of Yemen.

Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Recognized as Massive Mistake

14

By Robin Phillips

Cameron made a mistakeNow that the dust has settled on the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013, it is coming to be recognized as a massive mistake.

Philip Hammond, the defence secretary, has said that David Cameron pushed ‘gay marriage’ through “too quickly” and that it has been ‘damaging’ to the Tories.

Even David Cameron himself now reportedly believes that the speed with which he rushed the changes through Parliament was a political error, though there seems to be ambiguity on whether the Prime Minister said he actually “regretted” it.

However, there can be no doubt on one thing: it was a massive mistake.

NSS Seeks to Block Christian Coronation

By Robin Phillips

Prince_Charles_2012
If the NSS get their way, Prince Charles will be blocked from having a Christian Coronation service

The National Secular Society (NSS) has announced a campaign to try to block Prince Charles from having a Christian coronation.

The group of radical secularists will be working with the Leigh Day law firm to mount a challenge to the coronation oath, which declares that “the whole world is subject to the Power and Empire of Christ our Redeemer…”

They will also be seeking to remove the monarch’s historic position as head of the Church of England

The coronation service, which goes back at least to the time of King Egbert in the ninth-century, allegedly violates human rights, the NSS claims.

Their case rests on article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which grants citizens the freedom of religion, and article 14 which prohibits religious discrimination.

Up until now, the Secular Society has shown extreme ambivalence towards protecting religious freedom, having opposed British claimants at the European Court of Human Rights who believed their religious freedoms were undermined by equality laws. But now, in a bizarre twist, the NSS has decided to come to the ostensible defense of religious freedom, arguing that the coronation oath violates the monarch’s religious freedom as well as the freedom of the populace who have the ‘right’ to live in a society governed on stringently secularist grounds.

Keith Porteous Wood, the NSS executive director, commented, “The country has changed out of all recognition since the last coronation and we should now be devising an investiture ceremony for the next head of state everyone can feel part of.”

He continued: “A non-religious ceremony allows everybody to feel equally valued… It is no longer appropriate to install the head of state in a religious service of one Christian denomination which – on a normal Sunday – less than 2% of the population attend.”

“…modern-day Britain” the group dramatically added, “is no longer one nation under God. It is one nation under many gods…”

Referring to the monarch’s position as head of the church of England, the NSS announced, “But if we are to retain a monarchy in this country (and many think we should not, although that is not part of the NSS’s agenda) and the monarch is to be head of state, then he or she should not also be ex officio head of the Church of England, or any other particular religion or denomination.”

The fact that the Prince of Wales has expressed a desire to have a multi-faith coronation, in which he would dispense with the historic title of “Defender of the Faith” for the more watered-down “Defender of Faith”, has not even been sufficient to pacify the angry activists at the NSS. “We object almost as much to Prince Charles’s intention to be ‘defender of faith’” Keith Wood said.

This group of radical secularists has made clear that they will not be satisfied until they have turned Britain into a European-style secular state.

It is evident from the NSS website that their campaign hinges on the myth of religious neutrality and the spurious notion that secularism is a better guarantee of freedom than Christianity. The group’s website quotes the Dutch MEP Sophie in ‘t Veld who declared that “The promotion of a secular democracy, based on individual citizens’ rights, is the best guarantee for freedom of religion.” Those who have studied the history of the twentieth-century may well doubt the veracity of these statements, given that the rise of toleration has been largely pioneered by Christian, not secularists, statesmen.

At the Queen’s coronation in Westminster Abbey in 1953, she was anointed and crowned. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was asked by Archbishop Fisher, inter alia:

‘Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel?’
And the Queen replied: ‘All this I solemnly promise to do.’

Next the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland presented the Bible to the Queen. Between them, the Archbishop and Moderator said to her:

‘The whole world is subject to the Power and Empire of Christ our Redeemer’

‘Our gracious Queen: to keep your majesty ever mindful of the Law and the Gospel of God as the Rule for the whole life and government of Christian Princes, we present you with this book, the most valuable thing that this world affords. Here is Wisdom; This is the royal Law; these are the lively oracles of God.’

The Archbishop told Her Majesty when she was given the Orb from the Crown Jewels:

‘Receive this Orb set under the Cross, and remember that the whole world is subject to the Power and Empire of Christ our Redeemer.’
