Somalia: Famine, What Famine?

1

From the BBC website:

‘Somalia’s al-Shabab Islamists have denied lifting their ban on some Western aid agencies and say UN reports of famine are “sheer propaganda”.

‘The UN on Wednesday said that parts of Somalia were suffering a famine after the worst drought in 60 years.

‘A spokesman for al-Shabab, which has ties to al-Qaeda and controls much of the country, accused the banned groups of being political.

‘But the UN insists famine exists and it will continue its aid efforts.

‘Most Western aid agencies quit Somalia in 2009 following al-Shabab’s threats, though some say they have managed to continue operating through local partners.’

So far some much standard Islamist fare. But this is interesting:

‘BBC Somali editor Yusuf Garaad Omar says food aid – as supplied by WFP – is sensitive for al-Shabab as it would like to ensure it goes to regions it controls, rather than government areas.

‘He also says that a lot of money can be made from transporting food. Helping women and children – the work Unicef does – is less of an issue, he says.’

The Christian ideal of helping those less fortunate still permeates Western post-Christian thinking. It is based on Old Testament instructions to be ‘open-handed’ towards the poor and to have special concern for widows and orphans. And it is entirely lacking in Islam.

Daily Mail Heads Info Requests

1

It is fascinating to learn that despite the phone hacking scandal at the News of the World, that paper ranked only 5th in the league table of papers employing private detectives to delve into people’s private lives.

The list, and the details of a 2003 inquiry into use of private investigators carried out by the Information Commissioner’s Office, have now been handed to officers working on the current phone-hacking probe.

According to THE SUN, ‘the ICO’s Operation Motorman uncovered 4,000 requests from 305 journalists and 31 publications for a private investigator to obtain confidential personal information.’

The ICO also said that in many cases, the information appeared to have been obtained illegally.

Of course The Sun is pleased that they have come a lowly 14th in the league table.

And which newspaper tops the list, with 952 requests by 58 journalists? Step forward our dear friends, the Daily Mail. The paper made over 3 requests every working day to private investigators, ‘followed by the Sunday People with 802 requests by 50 journalists, the Daily Mirror with 681 requests by 45 journalists, and the Mail on Sunday with 266 requests by 33 journalists.

‘The NotW was fifth with 228 requests by 23 journalists and The Sun 14th, with only four journalists making requests to private investigators. The information requests, set out in the ICO report “What Price Privacy Now”, are NOT proof that phone hacking took place. ‘

I have experience of Associated Newspapers. Of course there was the dishonest article about me stitched together by an anti-Christian journalist in their Femail section in January. But back in 2005, the Mail on Sunday reported quite wrongly that certain BBC staff had received death threats and had gone into hiding following the brief publication of their home contact details on the Christian Voice website. The story was not true, but the Mail on Sunday then wanted to carry a profile piece on me.

When I refused, the Mail on Sunday sent a man in a shabby raincoat round the local traders trying to dig up dirt on me. He used lines like, ‘I understand you’ve done work for Stephen Green and he owes you a lot of money…’ Every local trader immediately replied, ‘No, Mr Green is one of our best customers.’

Interesting to find that newspapers which many would regard as upholding traditional morality so stoop so low, isn’t it?

PETER TATCHELL AND THE PAEDOPHILE BOOK

1

It was the start of a liberated sexual new dawn. The era of ‘Why not?’ Archaic laws restricting sexual practices and relationships were going to be swept away. No-one was to say who should do sexual things with whoever, or how. Sexual liberation had become – for some reason – a vital part of true Socialism. If adults consented, then, hey, why should the Church, or the Government, or assorted boring old fuddy-duddies say no to them? And for that matter, if children wanted sex lives, or if adult homosexual men wanted sex lives with children, then that was all part and parcel of the glorious sexual revolution.

Or so it seemed in 1986, when the most extraordinary book of the decade, The Betrayal of Youth, (Click here for the Table of Contents) was published by CL publications inLondonwith the sub-title “Radical Perspectives on Childhood Sexuality, Intergenerational Sex, and the Social Oppression of Children and Young People.”

The Betrayal of Youth was edited by none less than Warren Middleton (alias John Parrott – NOT the snooker player) the then “vice-chairperson” of the Paedophile Information Exchange, Britain’s foremost paedophile advocacy and aficionado support group. They did indeed have a lot of vice to be chairperson of.

A CAMPAIGNING BOOK
In a preface, Middleton acknowledged the help or support of Dr Ken Plummer of Essex University, Dr Brian Taylor of Sussex, Mr John Hart of Sheffield Poly, Chris and Jayne Hobbs, his mother and father, homosexual activist Jeffrey Weeks, Nettie Pollard of the National Campaign for Civil Liberty (now called just ‘Liberty’), assorted activists and feminists, and a large number of P.I.E. executive committee members.

The book was part of a campaign to abolish all ages of consent, destroy the responsibilities of parents for their children, deny any ill-effects on children of interference by paedophiles, and withal to make it easier for paedophiles to gain sexual access to children.

A host of weird sex-obsessed nutcases contributed, at Middleton’s invitation. Among them was militant feminist Beatrice Faust, another was the editor of the Sex Maniac’s Diary, Tuppy Owens. In fact she wrote a chapter with Tom O’Carroll, convicted of corrupting public morals earlier by sending out a list of paedophile contacts.

Labour activist Eric Presland, playwright and leading light in the Organisation for Lesbian and Gay Action (OLGA), contributed to The Betrayal of Youth. His article was a routine denunciation of the “power” that adult society has over children, prefaced by a first-person account of sexual activity with children. Mr Presland related his first paedophile experience with a Asian boy of thirteen, and boasted of interfering with a little boy of six.

AGES OF CONSENT ‘ARE USELESS’
‘Parents,’ he wrote, ‘because of their autocratic power, their exclusive rights, and dubious motives of self-aggrandisement which lie behind the decision to have and rear children, are in many ways the group least fitted to be entrusted with the task of child-rearing.’ So who are? Reading his chapter one is left with a strong impression that he thinks paedophiles make the best child-rearers. Presland wrote of one pre-pubescent sexual partner, ‘I fought for him to free himself from the confines of the family.’

Two of the editorial collective of the far-left Peace News, Miss Kathy Challis and Miss Elizabeth Holtom, the latter a Quaker, contributed a chapter for The Betrayal of Youth. In it they ventured an opinion that would have been viewed with astonishment by Josephine Butler in her fight against child prostitution 100 years earlier: ‘Ages of consent are useless. They are completely unrealistic, and they don’t give children protection from exploitation in any case.’

The former chairman of the Paedophile Information Exchange, Steve Smith, contributed a chapter to The Betrayal of Youth. The biographical notes said coyly he “now resides inHolland” – he fled there to avoid conviction for sending obscene articles through the post – and he “now hopes to become active in the Dutch crusade for children’s rights.” Presumably he did just that, until even the Dutch lost patience, deporting Smith back to theUKand 18 months at Her Majesty’s pleasure in 1991.

PAEDOPHILE MOODY ADVOCATES CHILDREN’S RIGHTS
A member of the PIE executive revealed the group’s early thinking on consent law in the Scottish Minorities Group homosexual paper:

‘Adults should be prohibited under CIVIL law from having relationships with children under 4, and in the case of children over 3 and under 10 a similar civil injunction could also be made by those close to the child …. For children between 10 and 18 there should be no legal restriction in cases which did not involve proven physical/psychological harm. Ten is the legal age of responsibility and if a child is deemed responsible for its criminal acts then it should be responsible for its own sex life.’

But Roger Moody, an ‘out’ paedophile intellectual, set out a political stratagem, the key to which was “a revolutionary perspective on social change.” Roger Moody explains:

‘Specifically, this means we don’t work to lower the age of consent, but to abolish it, and we don’t argue that rights over kids be transferred from courts to parents, but that the only people who have the right to kid’s rights – are the kids themselves.’

This was the philosophy behind The Betrayal of Youth for which Peter Tatchell wrote his chapter ‘Questioning Ages of Majority and Ages of Consent.’ His chapter preceded Moody’s offering: ‘Ends ‘and Means; How to Make Paedophilia Acceptable.’

CHILDREN’S RIGHTS CAMPAIGNER’
At the height of the Cleveland child sex abuse scandal, Peter Tatchell was allowed to comment on it on the Jimmy Young TV programme and promptly advocated ‘rights’ for children, In The Betrayal of Youth Mr Tatchell, homosexual activist, self-proclaimed ‘children’s rights campaigner’ and described as an ‘avid supporter of socialism,’ according to the biographical details, tried to make the legal molestation of children an ingredient of democracy:

‘In a fully democratic and egalitarian society, there can be no question of adults usurping the rights of young people by keeping them in a state of ignorance, fear and guilt, or by resort to arbitrary and autocratic laws which deny them responsibility for decisions affecting their lives.’

When I pressed him on this point in a debate at the Oxford Union it turned out that the abolition of the ‘arbitrary and autocratic’ age of consent law applied to children of twelve. My suggestion that it might involve children even as young as ten did not even cause Tatchell to blink. After all, the whole point of his article and the theme of The Betrayal of Youth was that there should be no age of consent at all.

Indeed, Tatchell wrote in The Betrayal of Youth that the age of majority (sexual consent) is ‘Re-inforcing a set of increasingly quaint, minority moral values left over from the Victorian era.’ The idea that they might just protect children from predatory men, men like his co-contributors, is not one that found any sympathy with Peter Tatchell.

REQUESTS – AND THREATS
When I was on BBC’s The Big Questions on 8th January this year, Peter Tatchell was one of the podium guests. I was asked by the production crew not to comment about paedophilia in connection with Tatchell. The request had come from Tatchell himself. That incident prompted this article. And why should Tatchell make such a request? Not the Oxford Union debate, but another event almost sixteen years ago is still in his mind.

On the Judy Finnegan television show on Sunday 8th May 1994, just eight years after its publication, I accused Peter Tatchell of contributing a chapter to The Betrayal of Youth, which I described as a paedophile book. Tatchell is of course the leader of the homosexual media stunt group Outrage. When the homosexual ‘age of consent’ was last lowered – to 16 – an Outrage banner was photographed saying ’16 is just a start’.

Anyway, Tatchell called me a liar, and threatened me with a suit for libel. In the “hospitality suite” afterwards he became abusive and violent. Obviously, Tatchell’s contribution to the book on its own, let alone the company in which he placed himself, is now a source of great embarrassment to him, as indeed it should be. No writ was ever received, of course.

PAEDOPHILES ‘AN OPPRESSED GROUP’
For the high-minded socialists and homosexuals of the 1970s and 1980s, sexuality was seen as just one aspect of the way in which children were exploited by patriarchal capitalism. Campaign for Homosexual Equality chairman Michael Jarrett was identifying paedophiles as an oppressed group, and the CHE list of “demands” included the complete abolition of minimum ages for sexual activity. The Labour Gay Rights Manifesto of 1985 said ‘A socialist society would superseded the family household. … Gay people and children should have the right to live together. … It follows from what we have already said that we favour the abolition of the age of consent.’

So was Peter Tatchell out on a limb writing in a book advocating paedophilia, edited by a known paedophile? It is true that a lot of the loony homosexual left thought the same as he did and some of them were active paedophiles as well. But most of them stayed clear of contributing to this vile book. We should be clear that there is no evidence that Peter Tatchell was or ever has been a paedophile – but he certainly gave them support and was in company with them in The Betrayal of Youth.

PETER TATCHELL HAS QUESTIONS TO ANSWER
But twenty-four years later, and with Peter Tatchell elevating himself to the status of ‘human rights activist,’ helping a bunch of child-abusers achieve what they thought were their ‘human rights’ to interfere with small children doesn’t seem quite such a clever thing to have done. Are Tatchell’s views at an intellectual level still the same? Does he realise the implications of them? Does he understand that he provided support to a bunch of men who wanted nothing less than to interfere with little tots? Who approached whom to secure his contribution to this shameful book? Was he aware that Warren Middleton (alias John Parrott), the editor of The Betrayal of Youth, was an avowed child molester? Was he aware that at least two other active paedophiles were contributors? Is he still in contact with Middleton and his cronies? Has he ever renounced them? Answers to these questions will reveal much about Peter Tatchell’s mind, agenda and judgment.

Reaction to Planned Koran Burning Proves Pastor’s Point

1

A leading Christian lobby group has said the reaction to the plans of an American pastor to hold a burning of the Koran proves his point.

The Reverend Terry Jones, whose small church is based in Gainsville , Florida , is intending to burn copies of the Koran on the 9th anniversary of 9/11.

The event will be held at his church, the Dove World Outreach Centre on Saturday, unless the Pastor calls a halt. He has promised to pray about his decision.

General David Petraeus warned that “images of the burning of a Koran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan – and around the world – to inflame public opinion and incite violence”. Pastor Jones has already been burned in effigy in Afghanistan .

Mr Jones himself said he has received more than 100 death threats and has started wearing a .40-calibre pistol strapped to his hip.

But Stephen Green, National Director of UK-based Christian Voice, said the General’s comments and the threats against Pastor Jones illustrate why the pastor has felt the need to take such a dramatic step.

‘I sympathise with the General’s position, even though American and British troops have no business being in Afghanistan – or Iraq – in the first place. If David Petraeus wants to know what radicalises Muslims in the West more than anything else, he need look no further than his own command of US forces in Afghanistan. Our troops are courageous and I have nothing but admiration for them, but it is not just their lives in peril as they fight a lost cause for democracy in a foreign land, our Government is putting the lives of British people at risk from terrorism at home.

‘I am also concerned about the impact of Pastor Jones’ actions on Christians in Pakistan and other Muslim countries. They are already terrorised by their Muslim neighbours. How much more will they have to put up with by becoming identified with Pastor Jones?

‘Christian Voice members would never burn a Koran. I hope that would be more out of respect for the feelings of others than out of fear.

‘Pastor Jones’ action is extreme, but he is obviously a man of courage and sometimes extreme things have to be done. I can think of nothing more extreme than going to the Cross to bear the sins of others, which was what Jesus Christ did. But if we are talking of extremists, Islam has more than its fair share of them.

‘The Koran itself commands Muslims to retaliate. A Muslim lady kindly gave me a copy of the Koran when I was helping Muslims set up a parents’ group against sex education in schools in Waltham Forest . In it I read from Sura 2:194, “And one who attacks you, attack him in like manner as he attacked you.” Agreed, we must defend our wives and families, and Jesus said “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”, but the Lord also extolled us to turn the other cheek.

‘The previous Koran verse says, “And fight them until persecution (another version says ‘tumult and oppression’, meaning resistance to Islam) is no more, and religion is for Allah.” It is hard not to build a theology of violence and global expansion on Koranic verses like that, and on the life of Mohammed himself, who went about expanding Islam at the point of the sword.

‘I was on the Jeremy Vine programme today, listening to the ultra-moderate Muslim (actually she is more of an extreme secularist) Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, call for tolerance from Muslims and plead for her religion to be regarded as one of peace. She is right that Western governments have encouraged in the past the very terrorism they now fear. But she ignores her own history and is whistling in the wind.

‘If you enter the great Islamic beacon which is Saudi Arabia with a Bible, you will soon find out about Islamic respect for sacred texts. If they find it in your luggage, customs will shred it. If they find two, you are in the cells. And it is all very well for people like Yasmin to condemn that, but it is actually happening with Islam-in-practice.

‘The majority of Muslims in the UK may well be currently peaceable and wanting to live a quiet life, but all the news we hear shows they are easily radicalised by almost anything. They are not at all impressed with infidels treading all over Iraq and Afghanistan , as I have mentioned. But it goes farther than that. A Muslim converting to Christianity is immediately a pariah and will be ostracised and attacked, because the penalty for apostasy is death. The earthly penalty for apostasy in Christianity is that we pray for the man to return. We don’t throw bricks through his window or torch his car, as has happened to Nissar Hussain in Bradford.

‘And us Christians should hang our heads in shame that for all this trouble and fear about the burning of the Koran, hardly a breath of protest was heard about the burning to death of a Pakistani Christian in March, whose wife who witnessed his death was then gang-raped by three policemen.  The Italian Foreign Ministry summoned the Pakistani envoy, but why were we not all outside the nearest Pakistani Embassy or High Commission?

‘I truly wish Christians would take the persecution of our brethren and indeed insults against our faith more seriously, although I should never want us to be screaming hatred like Muslim youth do. The threshold for tolerance in Islam is set very low indeed.  In Christianity it sometimes seems so high (on the pretext of turning the other cheek) that we tolerate anything and evil has a free hand.

‘I am also glad that Christians would never contemplate suicide (they call it “martyrdom”) missions killing innocent bystanders, as Muslim terrorists do. Sadly, you will find a significant minority of Muslims ready to express support for their brethren who flew planes into the Twin Towers , caused the London bombings or who let off bombs in crowded restaurants in Tel Aviv. In polls, 16% of young British Muslims supported suicide bombings in Israel and 24% agreed or tended to agree that the London bombings were justified. A similar percentage denied that Muslims did them at all, blaming them on the British Government.’

Pastor Jones said: ‘How much do we back down? How many times do we back down? Instead of us backing down, maybe it’s to time to stand up. Maybe it’s time to send a message to radical Islam that we will not tolerate their behaviour.’

There can be little doubt that Pastor Jones is reacting in part to the proposal to build a mosque near the Twin Towers Ground Zero site, but his concerns are wider. Significantly, Hilary Clinton upbraided him at a dinner she attended in observance of ‘Iftar’, the breaking of the daily fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Politicians on both sides of the Atlantic seem mesmerised by Islam, promoting it to the extent of fanaticism.

Stephen Green continued, ‘Anyone condemned by Hilary Clinton, who has gone so far out of her way to promote the wickedness of abortion and homosexuality across the globe, must have at least some good in them. Although I would not do what Pastor Jones is doing, I must say I could not help warming to him as soon as I heard that Hilary Clinton had condemned him.

‘But perhaps the secularist agenda that Hilary stands for explains the rise of Islam in the West. Both Pastor Jones and I live in a hedonistic, selfish, crass, idolatrous culture in its death throes. Sex has become exalted into a religion, sodomy is regarded by the elite as morally equivalent to heterosexual love and marriage, marriage vows are cast aside on a whim, children are thrown into day-care, the elderly are legally euthanased and we sacrifice our own children in abortion clinics.

‘Our elite extol everything that isn’t Christian, whether it is secularist or Hindu or Islamic. Add in their fear of Islam and their aversion to offending Muslims out of fear or because they want to be seen as “multi-cultural” and you have all the ingredients of an Islamic takeover when the population reaches around 30%, which it could do in the UK within a generation.

‘Pastor Jones is trying to raise a prophetic voice albeit in too provocative a way, but I know his church has focused on sodomy and abortion in the past. In one sense Islam is a symptom rather than the cause of the problem, and I speak as someone who opposes the building of mosques and who leads regular prayer vigils at the site of the proposed West Ham ‘megamosque’, praying against it.

‘Islam is only filling a vacuum which would not exist if Christian men stood up to be counted against the secularist evils of our day. We should be pressing the Crown Rights of King Jesus, proclaiming loud and strong that this is a Christian nation and that it needs to repent and return to Almighty God, overturning a lot of fashionable laws passed in the last fifty years along the way. Then, faced with what the Prayer Book describes as ‘Christ’s Church Militant here on Earth’, Islam won’t find a spiritual foothold in either the UK or the USA , or in any Christian country.

‘The truth is, if we don’t stand up for Jesus now, we shall find ourselves bowing the knee to Allah before very long.’

Bankrupt Scammer Supports Thomas Code-Switch!

1

A bankrupt charity scammer, exposed by the Daily Mirror two years ago, and now working for the Crusaders Rugby League club, has turned out as the club’s cheerleader for Gareth Thomas.

Andy Garside is Commercial Manager for the Wrexham-based outfit where Thomas has been in negotiations. Unkind wags are suggesting it would not be the rugby union star turned gay activist’s first ‘code-switch’. He ‘came out’ as homosexual in December following four years of marriage.

Christian Voice National Director Stephen Green wrote to the chairman, directors and chief coach of Crusaders earlier this week, alerting them to Gareth Thomas’s support of LGBT History Month and gay activists ‘Schools Out’. What Cardiff Blues Chief Executive Robert Norster described as Thomas’s ‘private life’ is one matter, he said, and we should be praying for him in his inner turmoil. But supporting an organisation which promotes sodomy to small children is not a private matter; it is public gay activism and completely beyond the pale.

Stephen Green says:

‘In an astonishing development, I then received an email from this Andy Garside, claiming to be ‘open-minded’ and condemning me for ‘attacking’ Thomas about his ‘sexuality’. It was the only ‘anti’ correspondence I have had about Gareth Thomas. Of course Garside missed the point; my letter was about Thomas’s gay activism, not his homosexuality as such.

‘But a quick google search revealed Garside to be more open-minded in the moral arena than even I could have expected. He turned out to have been running a sales pitch ripping off a local charity.’

Andy Garside’s activities as a charity fund-raiser were exposed as a scam by the Daily Mirror in 2008. His company Chestnut House was selling advertising space on a wall-planner. His sales representatives were telling their prospects it was to support a local charity, but only 5% of the money went to the charity. 30% was given to the salesman, and 65% was pocketed by Chestnut House.

Garside is now Commercial Manager of both Wrexham FC and Crusaders RL, but his appointment has been greeted with dismay by supporters, as the local paper reports. They have started a petition calling on Wrexham and Crusaders to sack him. Following his exposure by the Mirror, the charity dumped Chestnut House and Garside was made bankrupt in March 2009. Yet he is now involved in running financial affairs at both Wrexham and Crusaders.

‘I have dropped Gareth Thomas a line to let him know that he does not have to ‘stay gay’. Men and women have walked away from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ. The same Lord and Saviour calls Gareth Thomas also to seek healing at the foot of the Cross.

‘In the meantime, I hope and pray Thomas will step away from Schools Out and their promotion of depravity to school children. It should be embarrassing that a man who ran a charity scam and then went bankrupt is his biggest supporter at Crusaders RL. It is no virtue to be so open-minded that one cannot see any wrong in either sodomy or the Chestnut House scam. To anyone with a moral compass, each activity is as morally bankrupt as the other.’

Council Moves Against Proposed Megamosque

4

The Times is reporting that the plans of an extremist Muslim sect for a ‘megamosque’ in West Ham have collapsed. Tablighi Jamaat have failed to submit a planning application, following a three-year prayer campaign at the site by Christian Voice.  The sect, closely linked to Muslim terrorists, has been living on borrowed time since October 2006.  That is when temporary planning permission for use of the old chemical plant’s offices at Abbey Mills as a place of worship expired.  Christian Voice members have prayed at the site every first Saturday in the month since January 2007.

Newham Council have now issued an enforcement notice, ‘investigating all options, including compulsory purchase’. Much credit is due to Cllr Alan Craig, who has kept up a solid campaign in Newham council since Tablighi Jamaat’s ambitions for a 12,000-seater mosque were unveiled.  However, Cllr Craig is expecting the sect to appeal. ‘This is just a set-back for this group, not the end of the story,’ he warned yesterday.

CONFUSION

The Times also reported that Tablighi Jamaat’s architects are not working on the plans and their public relations firm is no longer formally engaged.  This last specifically shows the power of prayer, as we have prayed constantly for confusion in the mosque and disruption to the work of architects Allies Morrison and PR firm Indigo Public Affairs. We have also prayed for Muslims to turn from their dead prophet to the living Saviour and for the United Kingdom to return to the King of kings and to our Christian constitution.

The Lord has not yet answered the latter prayers, as Britain has become every more brutal and godless in that time, with persecution beginning against Christians at work, while the Government is now openly attacking the Church in its Equality Bill.

But He has heard the prayers of His people against Islamic ambition in West Ham.  I believe he calls us now to press in to ensure there is yet a use for the Abbey Mills site which honours the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no doubt that the ‘Allah’ Muslims worship is not the same being as the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  And if Christians do not stand up for the Cross of Christ, we may well be condemning our land to bow to the crescent moon of Allah.

NEXT PRAYER MEETING at the site: 6th February 2010

We shall meet at West Ham Station (E15 3BN) at 10.30am sharp to set off for the Greenway overlooking the site of the proposed megamosque.  We finish at 12.30pm. West Ham Station is on the Fenchurch Street line to Southend, and on the Metropolitan and City, District and Jubilee underground lines.  Check with www.tfl.gov.uk for ‘planned engineering works’ to the Tube.

If you come late to West Ham, turn right out of the station, turn right along Manor Road, under the railway bridge, across the roundabout (you can park there down Jack Clow Road), turn right onto the path just before the second bridge and turn left up the steps. Turn left at the top of the steps onto the Greenway and walk a hundred yards to overlook the site.

Put yourself out to come and stand up for Christ whatever the weather and be challenged and blessed!  (Phil 1:27-29).

These meetings are always on the first Saturday of the month and we are not giving up. In the words of the late football manager Bill Shankly: ‘It’s not over till it’s over; it’s not even over when it’s over.’ Future dates: 6th March, 3rd April. The Lord is honouring our persistence; we are now in our 4th year of prayer at this site, and seeing results!

Christians Report ‘No God’ Bus Ad to ASA

0

A newly-launched bus advertsiement which claims there is ‘probably no God’ has been reported to the ASA by a Christian group.

The ad, the brainchild of comedy writer Ariane Sherine, says: ‘There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life’.

But Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, has complained to the Advertising Standards Authority. He says the advertisments break the ASA’s codes on substantiation and truthfulness.

The ASA website says: ‘Advertisements are not allowed to mislead consumers. This means that advertisers must hold evidence to prove the claims they make about their products or services before an ad appears.’

Stephen Green said today:

‘According to one national newspaper, ‘some atheist supporters of the campaign were disappointed that the wording of the adverts did not declare categorically that God does not exist, although there were fears that this could break advertising guidelines.’

‘Well, I believe the ad breaks the Advertising Code anyway, unless the advertisers hold evidence that God probably does not exist.

‘The ASA does not just cover goods and services, it covers all advertising. The advertisers cannot hide behind the ASA’s ‘matters of opinion’ exclusion, because no person or body is named as the author of the statement. It is given as a statement of fact and that means it must be capable of substantiation if it is not to break the rules.

‘There is plenty of evidence for God, from peoples’ personal experience, to the complexity, interdependence, beauty and design of the natural world. But there is scant evidence on the other side, so I think the advertisers are really going to struggle to show their claim is not an exaggeration or inaccurate, as the ASA code puts it.

The Christian evangelist is not concerned by fears that his complaint will lead to atheists complaining about Christian adverts. ‘I am sure many of them have complained about Christian advertising already,’ he said, ‘but a statement such as “The Bible says ‘the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord'” is entirely factual. The Bible does say that. The statement “Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life – no-one comes to the Father but by me,'” to take another example, is a Biblical quote, from the same Bible which is part of our Christian Constitution and upon which witnesses promise to tell the truth in Court. The Bible is, to coin a phrase, our Bible.’

Apparently, Miss Sherine saw a red London bus in June 2008 with a Bible quote and the URL of a website. When she visited the website (www.jesussaid.org.uk), she was told that non-Christians would burn in hell for all eternity.

This so upset her that, with the help of prominent atheist Professor Richard Dawkins, she started a campaign which raised a massive amount of money for what amounts to an agnostic evangelistic crusade.

Stephen Green commented: ‘Apparently, the comedy writer had a sense of humour failure when told she would burn in hell, but if she does not believe in a final judgment, what is her problem? And if she does believe in an afterlife, where does think she is going to spend it? She won’t like heaven, because God is there.’

In an peculiar twist, the ASA is currently investigating an advertorial Christian Voice placed in the New Statesman, after just one complaint that a prediction about teenage infertility could not be substantiated. The Council are due to meet to consider its officials’ recommendation to censure the ad next week.

Stephen Green concluded: ‘No matter what the ASA decides in our own case, they have to investigate and take action against the bus ads with their statement that there is probably no God, presented, as it is and always will be, without a shred of supporting evidence.’

NOTES for Editors:

The CAP Code, which the ASA administers, says:

‘SUBSTANTIATION
‘3.1 Before distributing or submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence to prove all claims, whether direct or implied, that are capable of objective substantiation.

‘Relevant evidence should be sent without delay if requested by the ASA or CAP. The adequacy of evidence will be judged on whether it supports both the detailed claims and the overall impression created by the marketing communication.’

‘TRUTHFULNESS
‘7.1 No marketing communication should mislead, or be likely to mislead, by inaccuracy, ambiguity, exaggeration, omission or otherwise.’

Cameron Slammed For Sharia Joke

2

Conservative leader David Cameron has been criticised by a Christian group over his joke that he is ‘considering introducing Sharia law for bicycle theft’.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘We have had the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Lord Chief Justice saying aspects of Sharia law could be introduced into civil proceedings. That was bad enough, but Cameron has gone one further, by suggesting that Sharia principles could be of value in our criminal law.

‘He may have thought it was a joke, but cutting peoples’ hands cut off for theft isn’t funny.

‘The idea of replacing our Judeo-Christian law with Islamic Sharia law isn’t funny either.

‘Just two weeks ago, I was debating with Muslims in Queen Mary’s University of London , opposing the motion: ‘This House believes that Islam is the only intellectual and Political challenge to Liberal Secularism.’

‘These guys were moderate Muslims, but they were adamant that only Islam held the answer for the problems of British society.

‘Now the leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition has encouraged that idea and raised expectations amongst Muslims that their criminal legal system could be of value in Britain .

‘David Cameron ought to go away and study what is happening in his own country. It is good that he has in a sense been ‘mugged by reality’ over crime but he is completely out of touch with the realities of Islamic ambition in this land.’

Muslim Police Defied in Gospel Outreach

0

Well over twelve hundred leaflets explaining the Christian faith were given out in the Alum Rock suburb of Birmingham yesterday morning, together with hundreds of Christian booklets in Urdu.

Alum Rock is predominantly Muslim, with a population estimated at 90% Pakistani origin.

Two Christian preachers were told to leave the area earlier this year by Naeem Naguthney, a Muslim activist working as a Police Community Support Officer for West Midlands Police. Rev Joseph Abraham and Arthur Cunningham have now launched legal action.

Naguthney helped set up the West Midlands branch of the National Association of Muslim Police Officers which is calling for Muslim police to be involved in anti-terror operations.

The response of Christian Voice to was yesterday’s street witness. With the exception of Christian Voice National Director Stephen Green, all the other twenty Christians were from Birmingham, with local churches well represented.

Other local churches had a stall on the Alum Rock Road.

Christian Voice is known for its peaceful street witness events. The group’s evangelism dogged the 2006 theatre tour of Jerry Springer the Opera, leading to financial disaster for the blasphemous show, and Christian Voice has been prominent at homosexual events. Yesterday’s event was the first-ever outreach into a Muslim area.

Stephen Green said:

‘Despite the crude attempt to create a Muslim ‘no-go’ area for Christians, we found people were more than willing to take literature. Most of us stayed on Alum Rock Road , but a couple of brothers went door-knocking down College Road . There were some good conversations. but as the average Muslim is said to take seven years to convert to Christianity, and given the severe impact of conversion on family, job prospects in the community, and even life itself, there were understandably no dramatic conversions.

‘Muslims like to challenge us on doctrine as well, so we tried to clear up some misconceptions about the divinity of Jesus Christ and the nature of the Trinity.

‘As the Koran affirms the authority of the Bible, it is difficult for Muslims to say they ‘respect’ Jesus Christ after his obvious declarations of divinity in the Gospels. And that goes for others as well. Attempts to pigeon-hole Jesus as a ‘prophet’ or ‘great moral teacher’ fall in the face of him forgiving people their sins, claiming to be one with the eternal Father, and claiming to have the power to lay down his life and take it up again. Either Jesus was a fraud, or God. You can’t just ‘respect’ Him.

‘All credit to the local churches for coming out and I am delighted they recognised the sincerity of our intentions and the sensitivity of the way we went about it. God must take the glory for any good that was done.

‘As for the National Association of Muslim Police, they are now on notice that if any of them try to misuse their position to try to create Muslim ghettos or bar the Gospel again, we shall be there, preaching the love of God and the certainty of the forgiveness of sins by the precious blood of the incarnate, crucified, risen, ascended, glorified Lord Jesus Christ.’

TEXT FROM LEAFLET

Text of a leaflet given out to Muslims at Alum Rock , Birmingham (UK) on Saturday 14th June 2008.  (‘A Salaam Alechem’ is a rough English translation of an Arabic expression meaning ‘Peace to you’.)

WHAT’S WRONG WITH BRITAIN ?

A Salaam Alechem. Britain today is in decline. Secularist politicians have passed laws against Christianity and the Bible to encourage sin and depravity. We see the effects all around us.

In 1967, Parliament passed the Sexual Offences Act, which legalised homosexuality in opposition to the righteous laws of God, leading to today’s ‘Gay Pride’ exhibitions of perversion in our cities. Birmingham ‘s was even supported by the police!

The 1960’s also saw laws to allow divorce for any reason, which Jesus Christ in the Bible specifically ruled against (Matt 19:3-9). Letting families break up and encouraging teenagers into illicit sex means half a generation of children now grow up with no contact with their father.

Lack of morality led to crime

The destruction of the family, which the powerful Elite brought to pass, has led to young people looking to their peer group for a moral compass and finding nothing but a ‘do what you want’ idea in which drunkenness, drugs and fornication are paraded night by night on the streets.

We can all see how the lack of morality spawned by the lack of fathers has led to crime and antisocial behaviour. Prisons are full of young men from broken families.

In killings we reap what we have sown

At the time of writing, 16 young people had been killed this year in London alone. In the West Midlands , there are 40 knife crimes a week. Why is there such contempt for life? Well, the Bible says ‘As a man sows, so shall he reap’ (Gal 6:7).

In the 1960’s, with the abolition of the death penalty and then the Abortion Act, Parliament took away the death penalty from the guilty, by the state, where it belongs, and imposed it on the innocent baby in the womb, in the family, where it does not.

In that way we devalued innocent human life, and the Torah says mankind is made in the image of God. Can we wonder why our young people now have no respect for the lives of others when we allow their brothers and sisters to be torn limb from limb in abortion clinics, ripped out from what should be the safest place on God’s earth? It is sowing – and reaping.

Our Christian Constitution

Who could tell from the way our politicians have behaved over the last fifty years, passing wicked anti-God laws that have brought misery in their wake, that our Queen promised at her coronation to ‘maintain the laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel’?

Who would ever guess she was given the Orb with a Cross from the Crown Jewels and told to ‘Remember that the whole earth is subject to the power and empire of Christ our Redeemer’? It would never occur to anyone from the way the Christian faith is trampled on today that Britain actually has a Christian constitution.

The Church should take some blame

Clearly the Church must shoulder a lot of blame for the state of Britain today. We have been too lax and lazy in the past. We have failed to stand up for Jesus Christ and the righteousness of the Bible. We have let down those from other lands who thought they were coming to a Christian country. We have left a moral vacuum.

No wonder Muslims say that Islam could do better than the secularism rife in Britain today. But Christians are now starting to stand up and be counted. Muslims will expect those who follow Christianity, the historic faith of these islands, to proclaim that we need to return to the Christian Faith and the Bible. And that is just what we say!

So what do Christians believe?

As Christian Voice is a Christian group, standing up for righteousness and for Jesus (Yeshua, Isa) you will expect us to tell you about our faith. Christians believe God is the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth. He is self-existent, the loving, divine intelligence behind all creation, including us. Since God created us, He needed to lay down the laws by which we should live. Jesus Christ (Christ means ‘Messiah’ or ‘Anointed of God’) said: ‘Keep the Commandments’: worship nothing and nobody except God, do not blaspheme, disrespect parents and those in authority, and do not commit murder, adultery, stealing, lying or envy.

We can’t keep Commandments!

The trouble is, we can’t live up to Jesus’s example or teaching, because we are only human. We have all done wrong by God’s standards, so we are all out of fellowship with God and destined for hell. God is loving and merciful. He wants fellowship with us. But as He is righteous and holy, our sin prevents it. How can a holy God forgive us all the wicked things we have done in our lives and bring us into His presence in heaven?

A bit of good news for a change

By being born of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit in the person of Jesus, that’s how, born to die on the cross so we could be forgiven.

In Jesus, who did no wrong, God Himself died for us and rose again. God’s justice demands blood be shed for the forgiveness of sins. In His mercy and love for us He provided the only worthy sacrifice.

One day we shall all appear in the Court of Heaven. We shall all be guilty and deserving of punishment. But to those who believe in Christ, when sentence is passed, the Judge will say, ‘I have already paid the penalty for you myself.’ Because Jesus carried no burden of sin, he could take our sins on Himself and be our ransom. Us Christians know we are saved and forgiven. We are justified by the blood of Jesus. That is what sets us apart; not that we are better people, but that we are forgiven people. ‘The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’ (Rom 6:23).

The Angel Gabriel gave the word

We believe Jesus was born of a virgin, Mary, just as the angel Gabriel said: ‘The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore also that holy one which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God’ (Luke 1:35). That is not to say that God begets as men do, but that the only way for a virgin to be with child was by the power of God.

It was also an angel who met the women at the tomb of Jesus three days after His crucifixion. He said: ‘I know ye seek Jesus who was crucified; he is not here, for he is risen as he said’ (Matt 28:5-6). The new life every Christian lives is the risen life of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit by the love and grace of God.

‘I am the way’ says Jesus

Unlike any prophet, Jesus had power to lay down His life and power to take it up again. So the Bible says: ‘Neither is their salvation in any other; for their is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’ (Acts 4:12) The first public words of Jesus were: ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye and believe the Gospel’ (Mark 1:15).

May God bless you and meet you in Jesus as you call out to Him for salvation and forgiveness.

Muslim No-Go Area ‘will be challenged’

Christian Voice outreach to Alum Rock planned for
10am, Saturday 14th June 2008

The ejection of two Christian preachers from a suburb of Birmingham by West Midlands Police will now lead to a Gospel outreach by Christian Voice.

Members of the group, known for its peaceful street witness which led to financial disaster for Jerry Springer the Opera, will spend a couple of hours on Saturday week giving out Christian leaflets and sharing the Gospel with passers-by in Alum Rock, a predominantly Muslim area east of Birmingham city centre.

Americans Arthur Cunnimgham and Joseph Abraham were interrupted by Naeem Naguthney, a Muslim Police Community Support Officer, as they were speaking to Muslim youths about their beliefs.  He told them that converting Muslims to Christianity was a ‘hate crime’.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2058935/Police.html

Naguthney is known as a Muslim activist. He took a leading part in the recent launch of the West Midlands branch of the National Association of Muslim Police, at which he read from the Koran.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1023483/You-preach-Bible-Muslim.html

It is alleged Naguthney told the two preachers: ‘You have been warned.  If you come back here and get beat up (sic), well, you have been warned.’  When he found out they were American, the men say he launched into a tirade about American foreign policy and became ‘aggressive and threatening’.

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/ukcorrespondents/gospel_free_zone.htm

But Naguthney was wrong to portray the area as violent, according to local people, who have urged others not to feel wary of visiting the Birmingham suburb.  Following the conviction of Alum Rock resident Parviz Khan for terrorism, community leaders including Birmingham councillor Tariq Khan described Alum Rock as peaceful and law-abiding.  Barber Zahid Mahmmod said: “The area is very safe, and I don’t think people need to be worried about coming here.”

http://www.birminghammail.net/news/birmingham-news/2008/02/19/

West Midlands Police said: ‘The PCSO has been offered guidance about what constitutes a hate crime and advice on communication style.’  However, as Naguthney summoned two other officers, one of whom, a full constable, is said to have told the preachers not to return to the area, an anti-Christian attitude could be prevalent in the force.

In the past, there have been instances of policemen targeting Christian preacher over remarks critical of homosexuality or adultery; Alison Redmond-Bate was wrongfully arrested in Wakefield in 1997.  Harry Hammond was assaulted by homosexuals and then charged and convicted himself in 2001.  In 2005 at Tower Bridge John Banda was told to take down a sign urging people to repent by police threatening him with Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986

https://www.christianvoice.org.uk/Articles/38%20Zechariah%2001.doc

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, was arrested at a homosexual event in Cardiff in 2006 while handing out evangelistic leaflets.  He was charged with a public order offence, only for embarrassed crown prosecutors to drop the case.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/5388626.stm

But action against Christians by Muslim police employees appears to be a new development.

Stephen Green said today:

‘We don’t really need a reason for a Gospel outreach, as taking the Good News of Jesus Christ is a Gospel imperative, but this case has given us one anyway.  It is against the law for the Police to tell Christian preachers to shut up or move on, as the Redmond-Bate case established.  And the rule of law applies in Alum Rock, just as it does at Speakers’ Corner or any other part of this United Kingdom .’

The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, recently warned that it is hard for non-Muslims to live and work in some areas where radicals and clerics are trying to impose an Islamic character.  But Stephen Green says: ‘Here we have an instance where it is not local people turning an area into a Muslim ghetto, it is West Midlands Police.’

He continued: ‘The case also raises concerns about the association of Islam and the Police.  If people like Naguthney are using the British Police as a launching ground for Muslim activism, whether in the National Association of Muslim Police or in day-to-day police activities, then they should be expelled.

‘It is less than two years ago when the then Home Secretary John Reid was asked by Abu Izzadeen at a meeting in Leyton, East London : “How dare you come to a Muslim area when over 1,000 Muslims have been arrested?”  There was an outcry, but now we find a Muslim police employee, someone his Chief Constable probably regards as a ‘moderate’, clearly has the same mind-set as a convicted terrorist.’

West Midlands Police recently lost a libel action after they investigated and then reported the Channel 4 Dispatches  ‘Undercover Mosque’ programme to Ofcom because they said it quoted Muslim preachers out of context and ‘damaged community cohesion’.  Even after Ofcom ruled solidly against them, the West Midlands Assistant Chief Constable, Anil Patani, left a press release up on their website continuing to accuse the programme makers of distorting the words of the imans.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/may/15/channel4

Stephen Green concluded:  ‘By the grace of God, this no-go area for the Gospel will be challenged.  West Midlands Police Chief Constable Sir Paul Scott-Lee has an odd sense of humour creating a post of counter-terrorism and cohesion for Anil Patani to be in charge of.  But with people like that at the top, and with its tarnished record, we need to ask how far up West Midlands Police the peculiar bias to Islam demonstrated by the Dispatches affair and Naeem Naguthney’s attitude actually goes.’

Negotiating With Al-Qaeda is ‘Lunacy’

1

The leader of a Christian prayer and lobby group has reacted with disbelief to the statement by Sir Hugh Orde and Jonathan Powell that the UK Government could enter into talks with al-Qaeda.

Sir Hugh and Mr Powell have both used the experience of Northern Ireland as justification for their stance. Sir Hugh cited a meeting with Gerry Adams in 2004, while Mr Powell helped broker the peace agreement.

Sir Hugh could be the next commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice said today:

‘In the case of Sinn Fein / IRA, although their aim was and still is a united Marxist Ireland, it was clear from the start that a power-sharing deal in that particular patch of UK territory known as Northern Ireland would draw the sting of their campaign.

‘The IRA paradigm is not remotely applicable to al-Qaeda. Their aim is a global caliphate, an international Muslim state. How is anyone supposed to negotiate with those who will only be satisfied by total submission to Islam? It is more than the wrong of negotiating with terrorists. It is utterly pointless. To divert attention to such a waste of time and to raise hopes in such a way is complete lunacy.

‘Has no-one in the Establishment read the Koran or studied the Hadith, which together make up the holy books of the Islamic faith? Do they know nothing of the aims of the Muslim Brotherhood? Do they seriously believe the world is a place where every matter between every intransigent and implacable foe can be sorted out over tea in the drawing-room?

‘We even find such thinking in the Church of England, where a perfectly reasonable plea for evangelism amongst Muslims can be criticised, and the one Bishop who knows something about Islam is castigated as a firebrand. I have even been called an ‘extremist’ in evangelical circles for warning about the demographic menace of Islam in our land.

‘How frightening it is that the secularist Elite have such a slender grasp on reality and that one of them is set to replace another of them in charge of London’s police force.

‘It is a good job Almighty God is in control, because the only thing that can save the United Kingdom in the face of such a combination of ignorance, complacency and wishful-thinking is to re-affirm Christianity as the faith of this nation. The secularism of our leaders, including some churchmen, is clueless in the face of the threat of Islam. We need to repent and put ourselves under the Lord’s protection. Anything else is national suicide.’

Superintendent ‘Wrong’ to Blame Parents

1

A senior police officer has been criticised for blaming parents for the murder of Kodjo Yenga, whose killers were convicted today.

Det Supt Matthew Horne said: “Some of the boys were only 13 when they committed these crimes – children, only just teenagers. “To their parents I would ask them this: what were your kids doing? Where did you think they were at the times these boys were so brutally killed?

“That’s a message to all of us who are parents, we have to take some responsibility to ensure our children are brought up as honest and decent human beings.”

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘We live in a society where all moral boundaries have been overturned. Those at the top, politicians, celebrities, even chief police officers, set lamentable standards of honesty and decency. The death penalty, rightly imposed on the guilty by the state, was abolished and by means of abortion imposed on the innocent within the family. Of course innocent human life is devalued by that. Even Supt Horne’s own boss, Sir Ian Blair, refused to take responsibility for the death of an innocent man shot by his force at Stockwell Tube. No-one will ever be convicted of that atrocity.  Nor will any police officer be brought to book for murdering Nigerian tourist Frank Ogburo by kneeling on his throat during a minor row as the desperate man cried in vain that he couldn’t breathe.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2006/10/05.shtml

‘Divorce on demand is removing fathers from families, immoral sex educators are sexualising children and encouraging perversion. With no boundaries, can we wonder why young girls try to seek the love they so desire in casual sexual encounters knowing there is no financial problem if they become mothers as a result?

‘Schools are now working behind parents’ backs, handing our contraceptives and arranging abortions to children for whom they would need the parents’ permission to give an aspirin. The Government is about to legislate to say fathers aren’t even needed in families. How is a mother on her own supposed to restrain an adolescent son? And the police have waded in setting up diversity units promoting the idea that the evil of homosexuality is perfectly normal.

‘For Superintendent Horne to “blame the parents” is far too simplistic. To insist that parents know where their children are takes no account of the reality of the fractured family life which successive governments have ensured exists up and down the land. If he cannot take responsibility for the way those in power have removed Christian morality, leaving Kodjo Yenga’s murderers with the idea that human life doesn’t matter, he could as least have the decency to hold his hand up to Jean Charles de Menezes’ murder and to the police squandering valuable resources on stupid social engineering, normalising perversion, rather than on good honest coppering.

‘Ordinary people have a right to be angry at the way our godless elite have wrecked Christian morality in this country and the impact that is now making on our everyday lives.’

Lloyd Webber Could Face Evangelists Over Superstar

0

The prospect of the BBC auditioning pop hopefuls in front of Andrew Lloyd Webber for the role of Jesus has led a Christian group to promise Jerry Springer the Opera-style protests and evangelism if the project goes ahead.

Christian Voice said tonight that they might even try to get young Christians into the audition room itself to share the Gospel of the real Jesus Christ with Lord Lloyd-Webber himself.

The BBC are now said to be reconsidering their decision to air the reality TV show based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar just weeks after the composer said he wanted to cast Jesus as a follow-up to Maria in The Sound of Music and Nancy and Oliver in the musical Oliver.

The TV shows How do you solve a problem like Maria and I’d Do Anything were regarded by TV bosses as such a success that Lord Lloyd-Webber (he was raised to the peerage in 1999) has been urged to come up with another one. He said in March: “I have an idea to do Jesus Christ Superstar next year and then maybe another all-new show which I’m really excited about.”

But the BBC are now said by the website UnrealityTV ‘to be worried that they will face the same sort of complaints from Christian groups that they faced over Jerry Springer Opera a few years ago.’

The Sun was told by a BBC insider: “Some Christian groups are bound to have a problem with Andrew telling people, ‘You could be Jesus.’ ”

Jesus Christ Superstar caused protests from Christians during its 1970s West End run by portraying Jesus Christ as a mere man, a tormented character buffeted by events. It ended with Him being laid in the tomb and there was no resurrection.

Auditions could take place this year, but as with previous shows, they will be held across the country and the judges, who will include Lloyd Webber, will be at each venue.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said tonight: “If it were to go ahead, the show would then become for Christian Voice very much a ‘Jerry Springer the Opera’ operation, with witness and evangelism at every venue. There are still plenty of veterans of the early protests over Jesus Christ Superstar around who would love to share the Gospel with the queuing wanabees.  It might even be that we could encourage Christian singers to enrol in order to tell Andrew Lloyd-Webber just what they think of his project in the audition room itself.”

Christians Witness Against Redhill Muslim march

3

Christians led by Christian Voice held a witness against a march by Muslims in Redhill on Easter Sunday.

Around 70 Muslims paraded from the Memorial Park in Redhill down to the Redhill Islamic Centre and Mosque in nearby Earlswood.

They were met by a small witness along the route and were told that Jesus Christ was indeed crucified, dead and buried (which the Koran denies) but that He rose victorious from the dead.

The local police told Christian Voice that the march was to celebrate the birthday of the prophet Mohammed, although his birth was actually observed the previous Thursday.

The march followed the attack on Canon Michael Ainsworth in the churchyard of St George-in-the-East in Tower Hamlets just before Palm Sunday, the 16th, the Sunday before Easter, and it was conducted in an agressive, intimidating manner.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said:

‘A march is a pubic declaration. The Muslims are parading through Redhill knowing full well that Easter Sunday is the holiest day of the Christian year. They are deliberately disrespecting Jesus Christ and exalting their prophet over Him.

‘If they had genuinely wanted to observe their prophet’s birthday, they could have done that in private, and if they really had to march, they could have done that on the actual day kept in the Muslim world for the purpose, which is Thursday, or on Saturday, the normal day for marches.

‘The attack on Canon Ainsworth just last week shows the true face of Islam, with young men following the example of Mohammed, who spread his new religion at the point of the sword. His church has also been attacked, and Muslims have shouted that it ought to be a mosque.

‘The Redhill march was from the same frame of mind, asserting Muslim dominance over an area, and saying that Islam is superior to Christianity. It was a deliberate insult to Christ, who has been honoured and revered in this land for almost 2,000 years.

‘Only in Christianity do we have the certainty of sins forgiven, and the Easter message is one of hope and reconciliation between God and man, celebrating Christ’s triumph over sin and death and the new life He brings. Sadly, Muslims deny all the truth of Jesus and His victory. Yet ironically it is only He, the living Saviour, who can save them. Their dead prophet will keep them sunk in their sins.’

A local Anglican clergyman passing by said he had good relations with the Muslims and that he was against the witness.

A smaller contingent from something called the British People’s Party also turned up but stood apart from Christian Voice. The party’s website proclaims ‘racial nationalism’ and the need to ‘save the white race’.

Stephen Green concluded: ‘As our witness included two brothers of African origon, the ‘BPP’ people plainly had as much wish to mix with us as we had to be associated with them.’

Repeal of blasphemy law

Sir – In the light of the widespread outrage at the conviction of the British teacher for blasphemy in Sudan over the name of a teddy bear is it not time to repeal our own blasphemy law?

The ancient common law of blasphemous libel purports to protect beliefs rather than people or communities. Most religious commentators are of the view that the Almighty does not need the “protection” of such a law.

We are representatives of religious, secular, legal and artistic opinion in this country and share the view that the blasphemy offence serves no useful purpose. Yet it allows partisan organisations or well-funded individuals to try to censor broadcasters or intimidate small theatres, print media or publishers.

Far from protecting public order – for which other laws are more suited – it damages social cohesion.

It is discriminatory in that it only covers attacks on Christianity and Church of England tenets and thus engenders an expectation among other religions that their sensibilities should also be protected by the criminal law (as with the attempt to charge Salman Rushdie) and a sense of grievance among minority religions that they do not benefit from their own version of such a law.

As the Law Commission acknowledged in 1985, when it recommended repeal, it is uncertain in scope, but lack of intention is no defence, and the law is unlimited in penalty.

This, together with its chilling effect on free expression and its discriminatory impact, leaves it in clear breach of human rights law. In the end, no one is likely to be convicted under it.

The Church of England no longer opposes its abolition on principle and the Government has given no principled reason to defend its retention.

We call on MPs to support the amendment proposed by Evan Harris, Frank Dobson and David Wilshire tomorrow to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill and on the Government – which rightly criticises countries like Sudan for their blasphemy laws – to give it a fair wind.

Police Group Links to Spoof Website

A police advisory body promoting homosexuality and the reporting of ‘homophobic incidents’ placed a hyperlink on its own website to a satirical website sending up the whole idea of diversity and hate crime, Christian Voice has learned.

The Independent Advisory Group, which liaises with Hertfordshire Police, linked to Christian Voice’s True Vision website.

Twenty-four hours after they noticed the link was to the wrong site, they changed it – but google still has the cached version.

Christian Voice designed www.true-vision.org.uk when David Blunkett was Home Secretary, as a foil to the Orwellian-sounding police ‘True Vision’ project. ‘True Vision’ was intended to get more homosexuals reporting instances of ‘homophobia’.  The site has been up so long some of the live web-links don’t work anymore, but its message is still crystal-clear.

The True-Vision.org.uk site makes it very clear that it is a satirical send-up of the police, with post-Iraq headings like ‘Bible passages can be deployed in 45 seconds’ and police-speak taken to absurdity as in ‘Christianity – together we’ll crack it’. However, it quotes a real police hate crime manual which claimed ‘the infection of homophobia’ was transmitted in families mainly by the elderly and then suggests the elderly are ‘the most subversive people in Britain ‘.

The site has ‘True Vision Police’ saying they are ‘on the side of the LGBT community – in all its rich diversity’, describing Evangelical Christians as ‘a danger to pluralist Britain’ and the Bible as ‘a manual of hate-speech’ while bishops who feel tempted to talk about sin and the healing power of Jesus Christ are advised to keep ‘their heads down’. Finally, it says: ‘TRUE VISION Police just will not tolerate intolerance. Full stop.’

In case anyone doesn’t get it, at the bottom of the True-Vision.org.uk home page is a prominent paragraph explaining the reason for the site, alongside a categorical statement from Christian Voice claiming ownership of the site and showing that it is not official (together with a link to the real police site), and links to Christian ministries specialising in healing for the underlying pathologies which lead to homosexual feelings. Other site pages carry Biblical texts about sexuality and repentance.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today: ‘Firstly, I completely deny the imaginative accusation of the IAG’s Greg Rattey, who is ‘Chair of East Herts Reflective Group’ whatever that is, and homosexual, that we hacked into the site www.hertsiag.co.uk  and put up the link ourselves.

‘There are two possibilities in reality. The most likely is that the IAG people are so stupid and incompetent that they failed to read the True-Vision.org.uk site before linking to it. But more worryingly, they may be so illiberal and Christianophobic that they agreed with every absurd over-the-top word. Greg Rattey’s own profile talks of “being able to confront religious extremes face on”. Perhaps he sees religious extremes lurking around every corner but cannot acknowledge how extreme he himself has become. Certainly, no reasonable person could possibly think that True-Vision.org.uk is anything other then a send-up of the hate-crime industry.’

The other links from the Herts IAG website are predictably politically-correct but well over half of them are to campaigning homosexual bodies: the Gay Police Association, recently denounced as liars by the Advertising Standards Authority over the ‘Bloody Bible’ ad, the Metropolitan Community ‘Church’, ‘Gay Jews’, ‘Gay Muslims’, Lesbian and Gay ‘Christians’ and ‘Out Everywhere.’

However, one link is to a homosexual club in St Albans known as ‘Fudge’ and there is another link on the ‘events’ page to a ‘LGBT pride’ event on 15th July 2006 at the same venue – although the photos show nobody except a lone IAG person, Chris Auker-Howlett. In one picture, an environment-damaging patio heater stands forlorn on a deserted terrace.

But Stephen Green concluded: ‘A more recent claim to infamy for ‘Fudge’ was the holding in September last year of a ‘traffic light party,’ where wearing the colour green was an announcement that the wearer was sexually available, combined with a “shag-tag night”. I wonder how many members of the Hertfordshire Independent Advisory Group arrayed in green shirts and ballgowns trolled down to their endorsed venue for that refined evening out.’

Hindu Bull puts Assembly on Horns of a Dilemma

0

Only a novelist with the comic imagination of Anthony Trollope could make it up. Animal Health takes on Multiculturalism in the War of Shambo.

A sacred bull at the Skanda Vale Temple deep in rural Wales is threatened with slaughter by the Welsh Assembly Animal Health Wallahs.

Some 90,000 Hindus a year go to Shambo’s shrine at Llanpumpsaint in the heart of Carmarthenshire. They may just be following the herd, but Shambo is divine in their eyes. The trouble is, Shambo has come out positive for a bovine tuberculosis skin test, and even with no other cattle within roaring distance of him, and no certainty that he actually has TB, Assembly animal health officials are in no, er, mood to back down.

‘TB in cattle is an infectious disease that has a significant impact on the health and welfare of the national cattle herd,’ said a spokesman. ‘We fully understand that this can be distressing for the owners. However, measures are in place to protect public and animal health and prevent the further spread of the disease.’

‘Distressing’ does not, however, quite convey precisely how outraged the Hindus feel about the prospect of the god who is Shambo being dragged off, slaughtered and thrown on a communal funeral pyre.

Hindu Forum of Britain secretary-general Ramesh Kallidai said killing a sacred temple cow or bull was ‘highly sacrilegious’ to his faith. He said; ‘This is completely unthinkable for us and is a matter of grave concern. It strikes at the very core of our beliefs.’

The problem is, slaughtering livestock for any or no reason lies at the very core of the beliefs of the Governments’ animal health mandarins. The wanton Foot-and-Mouth slaughter had little to do with animal health and was done solely to protect exports of breeding animals. Defra’s, or Deathra’s, determination to slaughter the now-famous Harriet the Cow, a family pet, because she had once been in a herd one of whose members later developed BSE, led to a stand-off in a field between villagers and Defra vets. Harriet was put down by the family’s vet in March 2007 because of kidney failure.  A post-mortem showed she had never contracted BSE.

So, with Hindus unlikely to take Shambo’s slaughter lying down, will the Assembly make policy on the hoof to save him? With the normal speed of action of the animal health stormtroopers, dawn raids and all, foaming at the mouth with stun guns at the ready, charging in like a bull in a china shop to wreak their own brand of injustice, we shouldn’t have to wait until the cows come home for the next instalment. But with the prospect of beefy Hindus rampaging through the streets of Cardiff, any contact between Shambo’s holy droppings and the Assembly’s diversity air-conditioning could leave its unbending animal health officers with more than egg on their faces.

Dudley Mosque Refused Planning Permission

1

Dudley residents were celebrating tonight as the local planning committee refused permission for a huge mosque in the city centre.

The mosque would have been built on industrial land close to the heart of Dudley. Local Christians were concerned about security issues, community cohesion, and the Islamicisation that would have followed building the centre.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said tonight:

‘I am delighted that this mosque application has fallen at its first hurdle. It had started off claiming to be ‘the pride of Dudley.’ It had a minaret that would have made it the tallest building in Dudley, an important spiritual statement for Muslims with strong political overtones. Even the latest project had a minaret of some 65′.

‘One of the reasons Christians should be celebrating tonight is that the refusal of planning permission for the mosque has shut the door on the British National Party in Dudley. The BNP was set to exploit any granting of planning permission in the May elections. This sensible decision pulls the rug from under them.

‘However, the man behind the mosque, Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, who is believed to have strong connections with No 10, has the option of re-igniting the row by appealing to the Central Government Planning Inspectorate in Bristol. Our prayer is that he will see the futility of that and withdraw the application completely.

‘But just for now, we are praising God for His strength and giving Him the glory. This decision could have gone either way. It went the right way, and for that we are grateful.’

Council Axes Christian Prayers

1

The Mayor of one of the nation’s oldest boroughs has scrapped a Christian ceremony which began its meetings for more than 600 years.

Mayor Pruw Boswell, 64, decided that the prayers which have traditionally opened Totnes Town Council’s meetings should be replaced with a ‘quiet moment of reflection’. She said this would enable the council to be ‘sensitive to others’ needs’ and that the prayers ‘may offend other religions.’

Local clergymen had led the prayers which asked for God’s help in making correct decisions since the 13th century. Meetings closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

But officials are reported to have claimed the Christian ceremonies could offend councillors who follow other faiths or are atheists. None is understood to have complained about the prayers, said at the bi-monthly full council meetings. The best the Mayor could come up with was that ‘members of the town council in the past were Buddhists.’

A daily newspaper found out that Mrs Boswell did not even know if there were actually any non-believers currently on the Council to be offended. The alleged Buddhists also dwindled to a solitary individual: ‘We did have a Buddhist member a few years ago,’ said Mrs Boswell, ‘We probably have had members who were non-believers but I would not know who.’

However, the Reverend Gordon Davies, of Totnes Methodist Church, said: ‘I know many non-believers who found the prayers of great comfort because they are for the good of others. If people felt it was offensive they didn’t have to join in.’

The decision to ban prayers took councillors completely by surprise. After prayers earlier this month, Mrs Boswell bluntly announced it would be the last time they would be said. She claimed it was part of ‘a council streamlining package,’ describing the abolition of 600 years of history as ‘an historic moment’.

The same paper discovered that Mrs Boswell claims to be a Christian herself. She described the furore as ‘A mountain being made out of a molehill. … If people want to say prayers on their own they can – we have just taken away the person who leads them.’

Criticism came from within the Council: Town, district and county councillor Geoff Date said he was ‘astounded’ that the prayers had been axed.

‘It is probably one of the longest traditions the council can lay claim to – and one of the most important things we do,’ he said.

Plainly, a decision like this causes tensions where there were none before. The Mayor should retract this decision immediately and reinstate the prayers. Those in authority need to recognise that this country was founded on Christian ideals which inform our laws and culture. If we ignore our history and our heritage we will have no future.

There are echoes here of Chris (Lord) Smith’s comment in the House of Lords during the debate on the Sexual Orientation Regulations. Secularists are happy just so long as Christianity is something we do quietly and privately indoors without frightening the governing classes. But it is exactly the public proclamation of Christianity, and the demand of the Lord Jesus Christ to be recognised as King of kings, Lord of lords and dare we add, Mayor of mayors, which is at stake.

Daffy Dawkins fails to blaspheme Holy Spirit

2

Professor Richard Dawkins is encouraging children to blaspheme the Holy Spirit on his website, Christian Voice has learned.

The campaigning atheist has republished ‘the blasphemy challenge’ by a youth group calling itself ‘Rational Responders’.

The idea, which dates from December 2006, is that anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit on video on YouTube is rewarded with a free copy of a DVD called ‘The God Who Wasn’t There’.

According to ‘The Rational Response Squad’, their campaign is ‘to entice young people to publicly renounce any belief’ in what they describe as ‘the sky God’ of Christianity. Their knowledge of Christian theology is not much better than Mohammed’s when he was writing the Koran. After relegating God to ‘the sky’ they venture that Christians believe the Holy Spirit ‘dwells on earth as God’s representative’.

But the campaign claims to go further than foster renunciations of belief. It ‘encourages participants to commit what Christian doctrine calls the only unforgivable sin – blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.’

Comments on the same page start with a couple of writers saying ‘I deny the Holy Spirit’ before one ‘Kergillian’ accuses the campaign of being crass and points out that if atheists do indeed deny God, then blaspheming that which does not exist is just a game. Another comment adds ‘childish’ and a third ‘puerile and senseless’.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘Dawkins thinks that by encouraging young people to blaspheme the Holy Spirit he can keep them out of the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom of a God in whom he claims not to believe.

‘A superficial look at Luke 12:10 would appear to indicate that speaking a word against the Holy Spirit is enough to commit the said blasphemy and remain unforgiven, but Matthew 12:22-32 and Mark 3:20-30 set the Lord’s remark in context.

‘To blaspheme the Holy Spirit, it is necessary to ascribe Jesus’s casting out of a demon to Satan rather than to the Holy Spirit. Some would say it was only relevant during our Lord’s time on earth and such a sin can not now be committed. It is certainly clear from the text that the Lord’s fire, as it were, was turned on a group of unbelieving Pharisees who were watching the event.

‘However we read the passage, merely saying ‘I deny the Holy Spirit’ doesn’t come close to what the Pharisees did and would appear to be entirely forgivable. It is not actually blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The crucial point however, is that Richard Dawkins thinks it is, and that he is trying to convince young people in particular to commit a sin against a God in whom he does not believe and for them to surmise they will never be forgiven by the same God whom he says does not exist.

‘Is that rational or is it rather than a peculiar combination of wickedness and madness? Has the evolutionary biologist lost the plot?

‘If Dawkins were a Satanist, it would make sense to seem to block the path of redemption. As someone who claims to be a rationalist, even for the evangelical atheist which is Dawkins, it just looks malicious, loony, ill-informed and stupid in equal measure.

‘I believe God will forgive those kids who have been enticed to join this latest fad if they turn to Jesus Christ and believe in His saving work. Even Richard Dawkins himself can turn off the road to hell and seek the forgiveness of the same Jesus he hates so much. God is that big and that gracious!’
