27 Covid and Lockdown

Activities were banned and even churches closed during lockdown
Activities were banned and even churches closed during lockdown

In March 2020 Christian Voice was the only UK Christian organisation to stand against Covid lockdowns and restrictions. Our opposition to these innovations was based solidly on scripture. We read:

Gen 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Psa 104:23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

Eccl 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

God has not only given man his daily work to do, but the Bible describes working for a living and enjoying the fruits of our labour as ‘the gift of God’.

It follows that no government has the right to prevent their people from working. Furthermore, although states have enslaved people in the past and in scripture, not one has ever, in the course of human history, prevented people from working at all. Not only that, our leaders presumed to class some economic activities from which people were earning an honest living as ‘non-essential’, and to prohibit basic human contact and fellowship, contrary to the sense of scripture, where it is written:

Gen 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone;

Even churches were made to close. And yet God calls His people together on his day:

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The Lord requires us to assemble together every week physically regardless of any government edict.

We have also voiced Biblical concerns over the unlicensed and untested mRNA vaccines.

28 Opportunities in Parliament

Parliament needs to hear the Word of the Lord
Parliament needs to hear the Word of the Lord

We are now being proved right on Lockdown. The evidence is piling up that it was a grave mistake with dire consequences for people’s health, well-being, education and personal and public finances. We pray the Lord will use Christian Voice to bring a Biblical perspective to the current Covid Enquiry.

The opportunities to speak the work of God into public life and the corridors of power are great. Not only do our members use our newsletter to speak truth to their own MPs, but there are constant invitations from Lords and Commons Select Committees to submit evidence on topics of concern to them.

Early in 2022 our National Director sent in no fewer than four Biblically-based submissions to Select Committee enquiries in Parliament. They included Transport and Trade with developing nations. Another, from the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee, asked how best to encourage girls to take up jobs in science, technology, engineering and maths. In response, we explained how the Lord has given different gifts and aptitudes to men and to women. In a modern economy, we asked, what does it matter who is a mechanic and who a hairdresser, so long as the jobs are done? Three of our submissions were published.

We were the only Christian group to respond to these enquiries. We believe the Christian Voice must be heard in Parliament and that we must seize these opportunities. We are therefore praying to have a Parliamentary Liaison Officer to identify such opportunities, ensure we give Biblical evidence to Select Committees, find MPs and Peers we can work with and keep abreast of what is happening in Parliament.

29 The Purpose of Government

The death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022 and the accession of King Charles have prompted Christian Voice to look anew at the purpose of the monarchy in our time and also at the Biblical responsibilities of leaders. We still market a CD called ‘The Day our Queen was Crowned’, analysing the June 1953 coronation ceremony with all its Biblical references and symbolism. As we approach the May 2023 coronation of Charles III, that CD can inform Christians as they pray into both the event and what it means for his reign.

When we started, our statement of faith maintained that all government is under the authority of God and that its purpose is the maintenance of freedom and justice solely in accordance with biblical principles. We took it for granted that leaders would do the best for their people.

However, we now live in a world dominated by elitist supranational organisations like the World Economic Forum and the United Nations. Big money interests appear to be in league with politicians. It was astonishing during the ‘Covid’ affair how the mainstream media descended into propaganda mouthpieces for the establishment line. None of them questioned lockdown or restrictions. It is uncanny to find the same true with climate change. Not one questions it, or asks why ordinary people should be impoverished by policies aimed at ‘Net Zero’. It is as if a spiritual force is driving an elitist agenda.

Klaus Schwab and the then Prince of Wales
Klaus Schwab and the then Prince of Wales

King Charles is a friend of Klaus Schwab, who runs the WEF. As Prince of Wales he even launched ‘The Great Reset’ under which, we are told, ordinary people will ‘own nothing and be happy’. We are engaging with all of this, seeking out, not social media gossip, but verifiable evidence.

This ‘New World Order’ has prompted us to assert another Biblical principle of government, based on recognising that God calls leaders to have the fear of the Lord, his wisdom, a heart for service, humility and loving their neighbour. It says simply that those in government have a duty to prosper ordinary people, not themselves.

That is why Christian Voice is awake to ‘spiritual wickedness in high places’, and to ‘joining the dots’ but only on the evidence, not on flights of fancy. Above all, we never forget that King Jesus is higher than they and that:

Psalm 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

30 Responding to new opportunities

Since the inception of Christian Voice, it has been the National Director of Christian Voice who has done most of the work. Stephen has had an office manager to deal with subscriptions and database entries, and a part-time researcher to look up news stories. But a time is coming, and now is, when both the challenges and the opportunities are more than one front-line worker can cope with.

In addition, there are words in the Bible about the men ‘settled on their lees’, just going through the motions. The Apostle Paul told the Philippians he was not slowing down:

Php 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The playwright Alan Bennett responded to a question about his ‘achievements’ with irritation, saying: ‘Your achievements are not upholstery, laddie. You can’t sit down in them.’

It follows that we need to be responding to the new opportunities the Lord is always sending us. That is why we appointed a Journalist and a Social Media Manager in 2022. The job of the Journalist is to take some of the burden of writing articles off Stephen’s shoulders, and this is now happening. Our Social Media Manager is tasked with expanding us onto the likes of Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, using these channels to reach a new audience.  These new positions could do with sponsorship!

31 Street witness and Buffer Zones

In October 2021 we appointed a Director of Street Witness. Adrian works for us as an expenses-paid volunteer. During lockdown Adrian joined the street protests against it and turned his presence into an opportunity to speak to others. He found people ready to respond to his criticisms of RSE, the ban on any reference to creation in teaching and the influence of supra-national organisations like the WEF.

Since then, Adrian has begun a monthly witness outside that cathedral of evolution, the Natural History Museum. He has been giving out full-colour leaflets challenging the evolution narrative published by this ministry, and engaging those going in with some good conversations.

The issue of Christian witness outside abortion centres is an issue with which we must engage. Five local authorities in England have placed buffer zones preventing witness and prayer within, typically, 150 yards of such premises. In 2023, the Public Order Bill was set to bring in such zones all over England and Wales. This is the State promoting abortion businesses. Christian Voice is determined to challenge buffer zones with street witness.

Prov 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
