US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has by the grace of God survived an assassination attempt while speaking at an election rally in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Trump was shot in his right ear by Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old graduate of Bethel Park High School, located 50 miles south of the rally site.
He might justifiably quote the song, ‘Someone, somewhere, was praying for me’.
What you need to know
During the attack, Thomas Crooks tragically killed a bystander and critically injured two other people. One news outlet reported that Mr. Trump was ‘extraordinarily fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.’ However, Mr. Trump himself suggested it was by the grace of God, as he turned his head at just the right moment.

The FBI believes Crooks acted as a ‘lone wolf.’ Paperwork indicates he was a registered Republican, while other documents show he had donated to the Democrats. After breaking into his phone, searching his computer and bedroom, and interviewing his family, the FBI found no evidence of a political or ideological motive for the shooting. Reports suggest that Crooks had been bullied at school, had no friends, and was a computer and firearms enthusiast. The rifle used in the attack belonged to his father.
The day before, he bought a five-foot ladder and 50 rounds of ammunition.
Had Thomas Crooks killed Mr. Trump, the United States would have been plunged into civil disobedience, at the very least. Not just the candidate, but the US itself has been delivered.
The Bible clearly says:
Exo 23:1 Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
Speculations and reactions
Speculations and reactions following assassination attempt on Trump suggests that it was staged as a deliberate self-harm event by the Republicans. However, with a man dead and two others critically injured, the evidence does not support these claims.
The irrational hatred for Donald Trump among the so-called progressive left, or the ‘Be Kind’ brigade, has been highlighted. This animosity reached absurd levels with Democrat Senator Martin Heinrich tweeting that the return of Donald Trump in November ‘poses an existential threat to our democracy.’ The idea that Trump threatens the very existence of their democracy has been widely criticised.
Had Thomas Crooks succeeded in killing Mr. Trump, the United States could have been plunged into civil disobedience, at the very least. Not just the candidate, but the US itself has been delivered from a potentially chaotic aftermath.
Will he abolish elections? No, the senator just means people like him—those now called the ‘Centrist Dads’ or ‘Adults in the Room’—won’t be in charge as the dreaded ‘populists’ return.
Analysis of Trumps’ assassination attempt
Being popular wrong?
Critics argue that populist leaders, popular with those Hillary Clinton once called the ‘Deplorables’—ordinary decent people—threaten the established political order. Senator Martin Heinrich’s recent tweet claiming that Donald Trump’s return poses ‘an existential threat to our democracy’ underscores the anxiety among some politicians about losing control to populist movements. For Heinrich and others, democracy, the rule of the people, appears to threaten their version of democracy.
Meanwhile, another conspiracy theory has emerged suggesting that Thomas Crooks, the assailant, must have been transgender. This theory stems from the fact that the Nashville school (shooter also named Thomas) in March 2023 was transgender. A picture purportedly proving Crooks’s transgender identity is circulating online.
Had Thomas Crooks succeeded in killing Mr. Trump, the United States could have been plunged into civil disobedience, at the very least. The survival of Mr. Trump not only spares the candidate but also prevents a potentially chaotic aftermath for the nation.

Conspiracy theories
In the wake of the aforementioned assassination attempt, various conspiracy theories have emerged, including the outlandish idea that the CIA orchestrated the plot. The Central Intelligence Agency, America’s equivalent of MI6, operates overseas, focusing on spying and destabilising foreign governments. It has no role in homeland security.
Yet, some theorists suggest that CIA Director William J. Burns persuaded Secret Service chief Kimberly Cheatle to downgrade Mr. Trump’s protection while simultaneously training Thomas Crooks, a twenty-year-old with personal issues, for a suicide mission.
This theory stretches credulity. While it’s acknowledged that political and intelligence agencies are not always benevolent, the notion that the CIA would orchestrate such a plot is far-fetched. The CIA? Seriously?
The same applies to suggestions of a central Democrat plot. We know the political establishment hate rockers of the boat. But to say they mounted an attempted murder raises the same problems as the CIA theory.
Politicians have quite rightly denounced the attack. Commentators all over mainstream media are calling for more polite discourse in present-day politics. Well, in the absence of hearts filled with the Holy Spirit and mouths prepared to confess the Lord Jesus, good luck, as they say, with that.
Security blunder?
Significant security lapses have come to light following an assassination attempt on Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. A factory building just 150 yards away from the stage, well within sniper range and with a direct line of sight, was inexplicably left unsecured by the Secret Service. This oversight allowed Thomas Crooks to gain access to the roof, constituting a major security blunder.
BBC correspondent Gary O’Donoghue interviewed Trump supporter Greg Smith, who remarked on the security lapse: ‘You can be sure British Special Branch would have been all over those roofs long before the one they were protecting, known in those circles as ‘The Principal,’ stepped into public view.’ The gently sloped roof used by the assailant had been deemed ‘too dangerous’ for agents to access, raising further questions about the security protocols in place.

Republican Congressman Tim Burchett has criticised Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, attributing the security failings to her recruitment policies. Burchett referred to Cheatle as a ‘diversity’ hire, suggesting that her drive to include more female agents compromised the effectiveness of Trump’s security detail.
In the aftermath of the shooting, three five-foot female agents attempted to shield Trump, highlighting another security failure. This incident has prompted calls for a thorough review of the Secret Service’s protective measures and policies.
Previous assassination attempts
Three presidents have been injured in attempted assassinations. Four US presidents have actually been assassinated.
Ronald Reagan (1981, by John Hinckley, Jr.) is the only U.S. president to have been injured in an assassination attempt while in office and survive. Two former presidents, Theodore Roosevelt (1912, by John Schrank) and Donald Trump (2024, by Thomas Matthew Crooks) have also been injured in attacks.
In all of these cases, the attacker’s weapon was a firearm. Only Gerald Ford experienced attempted assassination by a female assailant, which happened in two separate occasions.
Four assassinations.
Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., in April 1865 by John Wilkes Booth.
He had just attended a speech in which the president promoted voting rights for black people.
John Booth appears to have been part of a Confederate conspiracy.
The US civil war had come to a merciful end just five days before Lincoln made his fateful trip to the theatre.
James Garfield was murdered in 1881 by one Charles GUITEAU over what appears to have been a real or imagined slight.
William McKinley was assassinated in 1901 by Leon CZOLGOSZ, an anarchist.
John F. Kennedy (JFK) by Lee Harvey Oswald in November 1963. Historians argue to this day over whether Oswald was part of a wider conspiracy, and if he was, what was its purpose. Jeffrey D Sachs observes that Jack Kennedy opposed senior security officials who wanted military action against Soviet forces during the Cuban missile crisis.
Instead, he pursued a course of peace through diplomacy which led to the Limited Test Ban Treaty.
Just three months after the treaty was signed, JFK was assassinated.
The Bible says,
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
In particular, pray without ceasing for those who lead us, especially for the Lord to protect the men of peace, flawed individuals though they may be, and draw them to the cross and the saving grace of King Jesus.
You know the Devil draws power from the shedding of blood, and the men who oppose it are in particular danger from plots in the spiritual realm.
They are standing in the need of prayer for safety as much as for salvation.
Donald Trump himself has already called for more protection to surround Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the outsider presidential candidate, and another man of peace.
Our prayers will make a difference.
Stuff will happen, but let these men always be able to say:
‘Someone, somewhere, was praying for me’.
