DON’T PRAY FOR THOSE IN DEBT!

13

A Christian group has been ditched by an umbrella group of advice lines for offering to pray for people with debt problems.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) has been forced to leave AdviceUK, an umbrella group representing the interests of thousands of advice workers, after it was decided that praying was ‘incompatible’ with membership.

The decision has been described by campaigners as an ‘extraordinary curtailment of freedom of expression’. It follows a series of similar cases involving Christians whose freedoms have been curbed following the introduction of controversial equality laws.

Steve Johnson, chief executive of AdviceUK, described the offer of prayer by CAP as an ‘emotional fee’. Asked to explain what he meant, Mr Johnson replied that CAP was effectively expecting clients to ‘pay’ for their advice by agreeing to pray with the counsellors. ‘Advisers must not offer or impose their values,’ he added.

However, CAP has been a member of AdviceUK for six years and says it has never made prayer a condition of its free service.

In a statement, it said: ‘While CAP is committed to providing impartial help and advice to all members of society, as an expression of our care for clients we do offer to pray with people.

‘In discussions around ethos and purpose, AdviceUK made it clear that they saw any form of promotion of faith to be incompatible with membership criteria.

‘In order to protect the integrity of both organisations, it was amicably agreed that CAP would not continue to be an AdviceUK member.’

CAP said that its counselling service would be unaffected by AdviceUK’s decision. A spokeswoman added: ‘Given the right support, people can and will pay off what they owe.

‘We help people in debt regardless of age, gender, faith or background. In our most recent questionnaire of more than 1,000 clients, 88 per cent said that prayer was appreciated or OK.’

AdviceUK, which has 870 member organisations, boasts of being ‘in a unique position to influence Government departments and other bodies’. It says it ‘provides a voice to funders and supporters’.

Christians Against Poverty is hardly a group we should have expected to be thrust into the front line of defending the Christian faith in our land. Motivated by a Christian desire to help others, they have simply gone about doing good, taking no payment for their services, declining to become involved in politics. But prayer is a central part of their ministry, as you would expect of a Christian agency.

A common question asked of Christian Voice by secularists is ‘Why are you spending all your time protesting against what you see as evil?  Why aren’t you out helping the poor and needy?

Christians Against Poverty is doing exactly that, but even that is not good enough any more, except if they deny their faith and the Lord Jesus Christ.  No longer do our good works shine before these men, who will contrive to find something evil to say about Christians whatever we do.  Truly, every Christian agency and every church involved in social work is now in the front line.

READ: 1Sam 2:30  Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith … them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Luke 12:8  Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Matt 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Titus 2:7  In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

PRAY: For Christians Against Poverty that they will stand strong. Pray that God will honour their stand and make them an even more powerful force to help people out of debt.

Miscarriage of Justice Continues in Johansson Case

4

The fate of Domenic Johansson is still uncertain following a court hearing on 11 May. A new hearing has been scheduled for the end of the month due to Christer being unable to attend the one on 11 May.

A few weeks after the hearing a verdict will be issued determining whether Domenic is allowed to return to his parents.

Humanly speaking, it is unlikely that the hearing will change the status quo. Such meetings have been occurring every six months since Domenic was first snatched from his parents two years ago by the Swedish Social Services. So far each of these hearings have culminated in a negative verdict.

Once Domenic has been in state custody for three years, the review hearings will end and Domenic can be put up for adoption.

Neither of the parents have been convicted of any crime, nor has there been any evidence that they are poor parents. The court documents complain that the Johanssons were home schooling, yet they did so at a time when this was still legal in Sweden.

Gotland Social Services have accused the father, Christer Johansson of being a narcissist, though to date there has been no official diagnosis. They have also accused Mr Johansson of being overly concerned with health and human rights, as if this makes him an unfit father.

Court-Appointed Foster Mother Threatens To Break Law

Domenic’s foster mother has requested custody of Domenic and has allegedly said that she will make sure Domenic stays with her no matter what the courts eventually decide. Similarly, Domenic’s state-appointed ‘representative’, Eva Ernston, has said off the record that ‘Domenic is better off without his weird father.’

Ernston has also filed a ‘protection from abuse’ order against Christer, essentially stating that he must remain a certain distance away from Domenic in the future. However, given the fact that they live on a small island, this would leave Christer with little room for movement.

Background

The trouble started on 25 June, 2009, when seven-year old Domenic Johansson was seated in a commercial airliner with his parents awaiting departure on a flight to India.

Though the family had received no prior warning, Swedish authorities boarded the plane just minutes before take-off, forcibly removing Domenic from his parents and placing him in foster care.

Domenic is a dual citizen of Sweden and India. The family were planning to move to India where Mrs Johansson’s family lives. Because Domenic reached school age shortly before the planned trip, Christer thought it would be best to homeschool his son during the interim. (They were not planning on homeschooling Domenic in India.)

When Mr Johansson got in touch with the Swedish Ministry of Education to inquire about home education, the Ministry told him to contact his local school principal in order to obtain the necessary curriculum. However, when Mr Johansson contacted the principal of the nearest public school, the principal refused to provide the materials, saying “You don’t have the right to educate your son and I will be taking this further.”

What the principal meant by “taking it further” was that the family would be reported to the social services. Mr Johansson didn’t know that at the time, but he did know that the Ministry of Education, Swedish law and Europe’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights all allowed them to homeschool. So he and Annie began educating Domenic.

Officials at the local school district were furious about this and called Mr Johansson before a hearing of the Child and Education Department. During the hearing Mr Johansson explained to the judge that the family was planning on relocating to India in six weeks to be with Annie’s family. It did not make sense to keep Domenic in the state school only to withdraw him shortly afterwards. The judge replied, “Ok, fine” and asked for the date of travel.

No court order was issued prohibiting the family from leaving the country. Domenic is a dual citizen of Sweden and India and had every right to accompany his parents on the move. Christer and Annie were completely shocked when the authorities boarded the airliner and forcibly removed their son. (This was during the summer holidays when school was not happening anyway.)

It seems clear that Gotland Social Services only motivation in the abduction was so they could force Domenic to attend a Swedish school.

After Domenic’s abduction, there followed an agonizing 18 months during which Social Services told Mr and Mrs Johansson that they could only have an access meeting with their son every five weeks if they pretended that they did not want him at home.

At this time the Social Services went on a character assassination campaign, looking for evidence against the parents. The only things they could find were incomplete vaccinations and a cavity in one of Domenic’s baby teeth. In neither of these instances were the parents in breach of the law. Moreover, the parents had already scheduled a dentist appointment for their son in India.

‘Kidnapping’ His Own Son

After 18 months, the Johanssons finally exhausted all the legal appeals available to them in the Swedish court system. They hired one of the best human rights lawyers in Europe, but the judge dismissed her from the case. Moreover, the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden rejected their final appeal on the grounds that by preventing the family moving to India, the court was protecting Domenic’s ‘right to education.’

Meanwhile, it became increasingly difficult for Christer and Annie to keep lying to their son.
Every time the visits occurred, Domenic would ask, “please let me come home.” And every time the parents were forced to try to pretend that they didn’t want Domenic back.

Christer knew what often happened to other Swedish children in foster care, and worried for his son’s safety. In Daniel Hammarberg’s shocking exposé of the Swedish social services, The Madhouse: A Critical Study of Swedish Society, Hammarberg gives alarming evidence that Swedish children who are taken away from their parents often suffer mental health problems as a result. Some even commit suicide. Christer began to worry what might happen to his son if Domenic continued to think that his parents were rejecting him.

This put the parents in an agonizing position. Should they continue to lie to their son and destroy his faith in the only two human beings in this world that truly love him? Or should they tell Domenic the truth – that they love him and want him back? After an agonizing time, Mr Johansson decided to tell his son the truth and suffer the consequences. Thus, he defied the social services by bringing Domenic home. The boy was able to spend two days with his family and learn the truth: that they loved him and wanted him home, that they had not rejected him and had been fighting for his freedom.

Two days later police descended upon the Johansson home and once again took Domenic into captivity in addition to arresting Mr Johansson on the charge of kidnapping his own son.

While in prison Mr Johansson was subject to psychological evaluations and deprived of adequate representation. However, the court-appointed psychologist cleared Mr Johansson of having any psychological problems and he was released in January this year. This has not prevented the social services from continuing to make unfounded claims about the mental health of both Mr and Mrs Johansson.

Charge of Abuse

“There must be more to this case,” many people have been saying. “The parents must be guilty of harming their son in some way or the social services would surely not have reacted like this.” In order to properly respond to objections such as these, Christian Voice has managed to obtain a translation of the transcript of the hearing that occurred before the Administrative Court of Appeal of Stockholm in 2009. The hearing was an important landmark in this case since the social services clearly identified the grounds of their concern.

In the transcript the court has identified certain emotional and psychological problems that Domenic allegedly suffers from, and they have blamed the parents for these problems. However, the only symptoms they cite are those which were observed in Domenic after he was abducted from his parents. This is hardly surprising, as one would expect a boy who was removed from his parents at seven to behave abnormally.

Court appointed ‘experts’ who have talked to people who have observed Domenic have said he is in great need of “stability.” Again, this is what we would expect from someone who has been removed from his loving parents. However, in the court documents Christian Voice obtained, the social workers have argued that Domenic’s need for stability is because he was deprived of security by his parents. It has not seemed to occur to them that perhaps the lack of stability may have resulted from their own interference and the stressful separation from his parents. The transcript reads:

“From the descriptions of school staff and foster parents it appears that Domenic has major difficulties in social interplay… Domenic has a distanceless way of relating and doesn’t understand his own feelings and can’t put names to them. … His connection pattern appears ambivalent. On top of that there’s indication of mental illness.

If this establishes anything, it is that Domenic is under enormous stress right now from being separated from his parents. These symptoms are a common feature in the youth under the care of the Swedish Social Services and are not necessarily the result of bad parenting on the part of the parents. However, when we read on we find the court giving a very different assessment:

“The assessment is that [Domenic] has been exposed to substantial lack in care and that he’s judged to be in need of routine, stability and a predictable treatment.”

There is absolutely no evidence to back up this assessment because social services never observed Domenic within his own home. All observation of him has been after the traumatic event of his removal. Nevertheless, the court’s conclusion was that these symptoms are the result of abuse from the parents and mental illness on the part of the mother:

“There is significant deficiencies in care, almost to the point of abuse, of Domenic under a long period…. The emotional care deficiency is considered to consist of Dominic not having taken part in day-care or schooling which has resulted in social isolation and unsatisfactory stimulation with lags in his development as a consequence. Furthermore the social welfare board feels that the deficiencies to a large extent have their roots in Christer Johansson’s mental and personal status and Annie Johansson’s mental illness.

European Court of Human Rights

The Alliance of Romanian Families (AFR) is now intervening in the case in an attempt to force it before the European Court of Human Rights. A judgement from the European Court of Human Rights would mean that Sweden could be ordered to pay damages for the breach of human rights demonstrated by this case.

Peter Costea, President of the AFR, has stated that, “The proper resolution of this case is of utmost institutional importance to Romanian families, home educators and the protection of both parental and children’s rights.” He went on to say, “The sole contention of the state was that Domenic was being home educated.”

Unfortunately, the European Court of Human Rights is not moving on the case. “It has been rumoured that there may be a court official [in the European Court of Human Rights] who is hostile to anti-Sweden applications,” said Michael Donnelly an attorney who works with international cases for the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). He said, “Our hope is that a number of letters inquiring about the case from the public will get the needed attention on the case.”

Ruby Harrold-Claesson, the president of the Nordic Committee for Human Rights, said she is “absolutely astonished” that the European Court of Human Rights has not responded to any of the applications submitted on behalf of the family.

PRAY: that this tragic case alerts the people of Sweden, as well as the entire international community, to the scandalous miscarriages of justice being perpetuated by the social services throughout Europe. The Swedish social services are not alone in having a long record of interventionist behaviour. Acting without proof and independent of judicial process, social services can arbitrarily remove children from their parents. Ostensibly for the protection of children, they have become more powerful even than the police. Pray for the children who have become victims to this system.

The UK itself has a track record of similar injustices. This has been a matter of deep concern which Christian Voice has been raising for some years. Social workers are allowed to remove children from their parents without proof of abuse and without a trial, merely because they suspect the parents might be unfit. Moreover, they frequently have incentives for doing so in order to meet adoption targets. (For more information on this, request a copy of our March 2009 newsletter.)

Christian Voice would like to be in touch with young adults in the UK who were taken away from their parents by social services when they were children, and who have now come out the other end.  Pray that the Lord will put us in touch with such people.

In writing your letters, ask some of the questions that were posted on the Friends of Domenic blog (http://friendsofdomenic.blogspot.com ) earlier in the month:

  • In what court, in this day and age, is it considered justice to deny the accused their choice of legal counsel, and the chance to offer witnesses and testimony supporting their claim of innocence?
  • In what court is justice served when a sitting judge is presented written testimony as evidence from doctors and psychiatrists stating the mental health of the accused to be sound, yet this same judge ignores the expert testimony and instead accepts as gospel truth the testimony of child welfare workers, who are neither doctors nor psychiatrists, but who “diagnose” the defendant as having a narcissistic personality disorder?
  • In what court is justice served when Eva Ernston, who is paid by the state of Sweden to “represent” Domenic’s interests in court, publicly and indiscriminately boasts to friends and strangers alike, that “Domenic is better off without his weird father”? So much for keeping secret the reason Gotland Social Services has destroyed a family. According to Ernston, it is because Christer Johansson is, in her own words, “weird.”
  • In what court is justice served when Domenic’s foster mother tells little Domenic that he will stay with her regardless of what the judge decides, essentially telling the little boy she will break the law, if she has to, to keep him with her?
  • In what court is justice served when this same foster mother tells child welfare workers what she told Domenic: that she will not give him back to his parents no matter what the court decides; and upon hearing this declaration, rather than reprimand, correct or otherwise protect Domenic from a foster mother untrustworthy enough to break the law rather than relinquish a child not hers to keep in the first place, the child welfare workers put in an official Gotland Social Services document, word for word what the foster mother told Domenic, then send this document to the Johanssons to further demoralize them?

Christer Johansson Released from Prison

4
The Johansson family before they were separated. Although the father has now been released from prison, the boy, Domenic, remains separated from his parents.

A father who freed his son for two days from Swedish Social Services was released from prison last month.  The son, aged nine, remains in foster care following the family’s decision to homeschool before a planned emigration to India.

Christer Johansson was arrested two months ago on a charge of kidnapping his own child after he and his son Domenic walked out of a government ‘contact’ centre.

The trouble started on 26 June, 2009, when seven-year old Domenic Johansson was seated in a commercial airliner with his parents awaiting departure on a flight to India .

Though the family had received no prior warning, Swedish authorities boarded the plane just minutes before take-off, forcibly removed Domenic from his parents and placed him in foster care.

Domenic is a dual citizen of Sweden and India . The family were planning to move to India where Mrs. Johansson’s family lives, and were planning to place Domenic in a school there. However, Swedish Social Services on the island of Gotland wanted to prevent the move to force Domenic to attend a Swedish state school instead.

The family received no preliminary warning, nor had they been forbidden from leaving the country.  Christian Voice understands that during an earlier court hearing, Christer Johansson explained that the reason they wanted to home-school was because they would be emigrating to India shortly.  The judge allowed the family to home-school, but as Christer had disclosed their date of travel to the court, social services and the police were able to board the plane, a move which the family did not foresee.

After Domenic’s abduction, there followed an agonizing 18 months during which Social Services told Mr & Mrs Johansson that they could only have an access meeting every five weeks with Domenic if they pretended to him that they did not want him at home.  British Social Services impose similar conditions on parents.

Finally, Christer Johansson decided to defy the social services by bringing Domenic home.  He was able to spend two days with his family and learn the truth: that they loved him and wanted him home, that they had not rejected him and had been fighting for his freedom.

That was on 22nd November last year. Two days later police descended upon the Johansson home and once again took Domenic into captivity in addition to arresting Mr. Johansson on the charge of kidnapping.

While in prison Mr. Johansson was subject to psychological evaluations and deprived of adequate representation. However, the court-appointed psychologist cleared Mr. Johansson of psychological problems.

The finding of the psychologist is in direct opposition to the accusations made against Mr. Johansson by the Social Services – accusations which formed part of their case for why Domenic should not be returned to his parents. Nevertheless, the Friends of Domenic Blog has reported that “Gotland Social Services continues to insist that Mr. Johansson suffers from a narcissistic disorder, while independent psychological assessments find him psychologically healthy.”

WE SAY: This case displays all the arrogance of Social Services departments that we experience in Britain. The Swedish SS believe they know better than parents how a child should be educated.  They believe it is better for a child to be forcibly placed ‘in care’ and made to attend a Swedish school than go to India with his parents and attend school there.

HOW TO WRITE TO YOUR MP

Houses of Parliament

These are the rules for writing any letter or email to your MP:

1 Ask your MP to ask a question of the minister responsible.  This ensures you will get a reply.  Never write to a minister direct.  It makes your MP look redundant.  Kill two birds with one stone.
2 Be precise.  Do not ramble.  State the matter in the first paragraph and make each point concisely.  I always try to say everything on one well-spaced page.  If you go to three pages, you have lost the game.
3 Be patient.  Assume your MP knows nothing about the case, so explain carefully (but precisely!)
4 Be accurate.  Do your own research or rely on a group like Christian Voice who check everything.
5 Be legible.  If your handwriting is not up to it, type it or email and spell-check.
6 Be calm.  No ranting and raving, no over-the-top comments, no snide remarks.
7 Ask your MP to agree with you if the occasion arises.  This could be your question (see 1).
8 Keep to one subject.  If two things are on your mind, write two letters, a couple of days apart.

Letters are always written to your MP at: House of Commons, LONDON, SW1A 0AA

Emails can also be sent.  You need to know either your MP’s name or your Parliamentary Constituency.  Both of these, together with email addresses may be found here on the Parliament website.  If you know neither your MP nor your constituency you can simply type your postcode in a box.  In fact, that is the easiest way to get staight to his/her contact details.

Johansson Father Denied Representation and Subject to Psychological Evaluations

1
Domenic and his father, Christer Johansson, before they were separated.

Swedish authorities have begun subjecting prisoner, Christer Johansson, to psychological evaluations while continuing to reject his request for representation.

In a hearing on 20th December, the father of Dominic Johansson was not allowed to be represented by a lawyer of his choice, after being accused of kidnapping and unlawful detention.

The charges were brought against Mr. Johansson after he walked out of a government centre with his son Domenic during a contact session.

The trouble started on 26 June, 2009, when seven-year old Domenic Johansson was seated in a commercial airliner with his parents awaiting departure of a flight to India.

Though the family had received no prior warning, Swedish authorities boarded the plane just minutes before take-off, forcibly removing Domenic from the custody of his parents and placing him in foster care.
Domenic is a dual citizen of Sweden and India. His mother’s family all live in India, where the family was planning to move to.

But Swedish Social Services in Domenic’s home town of Gottland wanted to prevent the move from taking place in order that Domenic would be forced to attend their school.

The family received no preliminary warning, nor had they been forbidden from leaving the country.
After Domenic’s abduction, there followed an agonizing 18 months leading up to the incident when Christer Johansson decided to defy the social services and bring Domenic home.

That was on 22 November last year. On 24 November, police descended upon their home and arrested Mr. Johansson and once again took Domenic into captivity.Since then Mr. Johansson has been struggling to obtain representation by Trygve Emstedt, a human rights lawyer with 30 years’ experience who desires to take on the case.

Even though Sweden’s constitution and Article 6 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights guarantees every Swedish citizen the right to a fair trial and the right to choose his own representation Gotland courts have insisted that Christer be represented by their own public defender.

Moreover, it now seems that the Swedish authorities are looking for evidence to use against Christer. On 1 January, Bob Unruh reported in World Net Daily that unspecified psychological studies or evaluations have been ordered for Mr. Johansson.

PRAY:  Much prayer is still needed for Domenic’s mother, Annie, who is suffering acutely because of the tragic separation of her family. Also for Christer, that the Lord would sustain him in prison and that he would be allowed to have adequate legal representation. Finally, pray for Dominic, that the Lord would engineer circumstances to reunite him with his parents.

Christian Voice Supports Campaign For Pakistani Christian

1

A campaign to save a Pakistani Christian sentenced to death for blasphemy is being supported by Christian Voice. Asia Bibi has been in prison for eighteen months after her Muslim neighbours fell out with her and accused her of blasphemy when, in response to being asked what Jesus had done for her, she asked them what Mohammed had ever done for them. That was just the culmination of a campaign of intimidation against Asia Bibi.

PRAY: That President Zardawi of Pakistan will respond to international calls for Asia Bibi to be released. There is a story around that he wants to release her, but that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has blocked the move until all legal process has finished, which could take months if not years. Meanwhile this determined young woman’s children need their mother.

WRITE TO: The Pakistani High Commissioner, His Excellency Wajid Shamsul Hasan at Pakistan High Commission, 35 Lowndes Square , LONDON , SW1X 9JN . Respectfully demand that Asia Bibi be released. Ask His Excellency to forward your demand to the President of Pakistan. Address him as “Your Excellency” and end “Yours faithfully.”

The tragic saga began the year before when Domenic was six and his father, Christer Johannson, contacted the Swedish Ministry of Education to inquire about home education.

Domenic as he played happily just hours before his abduction.

Social Services’ only purpose in removing Domenic from the airplane was to prevent him moving to India . Christer Johannson is Swedish, while his wife, Annie Johansson, is a citizen of India. Because they were planning on relocating to India soon to be with Annie’s family, Christer thought it would be best to homeschool Domenic during the interim. While Christians, the parents were not committed to homeschooling for ideological reasons and had even planned on putting their son in the public school once they reached India.

Annie has two Masters Degrees and is highly qualified in the task of educating her son. Moreover, homeschooling was not illegal in Sweden at the time.

When Mr. Johansson got in touch with the Swedish Ministry of Education to inquire about home education, the Ministry told him to contact his local school principal in order to obtain the necessary curriculum. However, when Mr. Johannson contacted the principal of the nearest public school, the principal refused to provide the materials, saying “You don’t have the right to educate your son and I will be taking this further.”

What the principal meant by “taking it further” was that the family would be reported to the social services. Mr. Johansson didn’t know that at the time, but he did know that the Ministry of Education, Swedish law and Europe’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights all allowed them to homeschool. So he and Annie began homeschooling Domenic.

Officials at the local school district were furious about this and called Mr. Johansson before a hearing of the Child and Education Department.

Domenic in the airplane watching as police board to put him into foster care. The Swedish Social Services’ purpose in preventing the family moving to India is because they wanted Domenic to attend the state schools in Sweden.

During the hearing Mr. Johansson explained to the judge that the family was planning on relocating to India in six weeks to be with Annie’s family.

Thus, Christer and Annie were shocked when the authorities boarded the airliner and forcibly removed Domenic.

Social Services’ only purpose in removing Domenic from the airplane was to prevent him moving to India where he would be outside the jurisdiction of the Swedish state schools. He was not truant from school at the time because it was summer break. As the Alliance Defence fund have pointed out in their application of appeal to the European Court of Human Rights:

“Domenic Johansson was removed from that plane only because social services believed it knew better than his parents what was in Domenic’s best interest; a belief steeped in discrimination against their religious and philosophical beliefs with regard to Domenic’s upbringing and education…Swedish officials removed this boy from an international flight solely to prevent his parents from moving to another nation and from educating him in a manner that is lawful in India, in Sweden, and in a majority of nations…

“please let me come home”

For the Johansson family, that was just the beginning of their troubles. After having their son snatched from their custody, the immediate problem was how to get Domenic back.

Christer and Annie were only able to visit their son, now in foster care, for one hour every five weeks.

They soon faced a new dilemma. The visits with their son were allowed to continue but only on the condition that they pretend to their son that they did not want him to come home with them and were happy for him to be in foster care. Social Services said they would lose visitation rights forever if they did not keep up the pretense.

During every visit there was always a social worker in the room, listening to every word and taking notes.

I interviewed a man who spoke to Christer last September when this was going on. He said:

“In September Christer expressed his frustration to me that social services was putting extreme pressure on him and his wife to pretend to Domenic that they don’t want him back and that they are happy with his current custodial arrangement, in order to be allowed to have continued visitation.

Christer said that the requirement to pretend to be happy with the situation was putting a great deal of additional mental and emotional stress on his family, beyond what you would expect from the situation itself.

After 18 months, the Johannsens finally exhausted all the legal appeals available to them in the Swedish court system. They hired one of the best human rights lawyers in Europe, but the judge dismissed her from the case. Last December, the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden rejected their final appeal on the grounds that by preventing the family moving to India, the court was protecting Domenic’s “right to education.”

In Daniel Hammarberg’s shocking exposé of the Swedish social services,The Madhouse: A Critical Study of Swedish Society, Hammarberg gives alarming evidence of what happens to the mental health of children like Domenic who have been taken away from their parents. (To read excerpts from the book, click here. To get the book on Kindle, click here.) Some of victims of the Swedish Social Services, such as 13 year old Elin, have even committed suicide

After an agonizing time, Christer decided to tell his son the truth and suffer the consequences. So just last week during visitation, Domenic once again begged his father to take him home. This time, instead of lying, Christer said, “ok, let’s go.” The social workers in Sweden are unarmed so there was nothing they could do to stop him from walking out of the visitation room with Domenic.

Domenic was able to spend a beautiful day and a half with his parents and grandparents, whom he had not seen in 18 months. During this time Christer and Annie explained to Domenic the truth. They explained that they had not rejected him, that they loved him and had been fighting for his freedom for the last 18 months. They told him that whatever happened they would always love him.

“Held Hostage” by the Government

The police wasted no time. When they found out where the family was, several squad cars descended upon the Johansson home. Armed police swept in, dragging Domenic out into the unseasonably frigid temperatures without even giving him an opportunity to get his jacket. Christer was thrown into jail, charged with kidnapping his own son. He faces up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.

Domenic loved his parents and grandparents. He had a rich and happy childhood and was well provided for by his intelligent Christian parents. However, in Sweden it is the State that is the ultimate parent. Drunk with a sense of their own omnipotence, Swedish Social Services could not let the family move to India for the simple reason that they would then no longer be able to force Domenic to attend their state schools.

“I have never in 20 years of practice seen a case more badly handled,” commented Harrold-Claaesson, a noted international human rights lawyer and president of the Nordic Committee for Human Rights. She continued:

“This family has been so traumatized that they may never recover. The Swedish government has grossly violated this family’s human rights, both under Swedish law and under the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR). Under the ECHR people have the right to leave their country. But in this case the social services took this poor little boy and prevented him from leaving with his parents. He is being held a hostage—essentially kidnapped by the Swedish government. It is an absolute embarrassment for Sweden and for every person involved in this case. Each person, from the social workers to the judges, should be ashamed of their behavior and their continuing callousness towards this family. They all must be brought to justice for their crimes against the Johansson family.”

Domenic will be released from foster care when he is 18, around the same time that Christer is scheduled to get out of prison.

Bill Bailey: As Ignorant As He Is Cowardly

16

Comedian Bill Bailey is currently staging a one-man show, Dandelion Mind, at Wyndham’s Theatre in London ‘s West End . Much of the evening, according to journalist Quentin Letts, involves attacking Christianity. A particularly distasteful skit insults Jesus Christ by ridiculing the moment when a dramatically convinced Thomas put his hand in the Lord’s side.

Mr Letts has penned a scathing review, in which he calls for evangelicals to turn up to heckle Bailey with hymns, and accuses the panel show contributor of cowardice. Christianity is a safe, soft target, but Bailey would never have the guts to insult Mohammed, says the Mail’s columnist. The same applies to homosexuality. Bill Bailey would never insult the gays. Certainly not in a theatre owned by Cameron MacKintosh,. ‘Not exactly the bravest of Berties – a distinctly predictable performance,’ Quentin Letts concludes.

Bill Bailey himself, in an article in timesonline, says he takes on multi-nationals, as if that is radical cutting-edge comedy, instead of just another soft target. He won’t lose any points among the politically-correct by mocking the theory of intelligent design either. Now if he took on the laughable idea of evolution, or took a sideswipe at abortion or feminism or sexual immorality, now that would be daring, but also a suicidal career move.

Bailey criticises those like Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross who mock the weak. ‘You have got to aim a bit higher than that,’ he says. It could be argued they don’t come much higher than Jesus Christ, but again, he is not likely to lose either his life of his livelihood picking on Christ or Christianity as he might if he took on Islam or homosexuality. That would be aiming a bit too high for Bailey. ‘You have to pick your targets,’ says the comedian. He certainly knows how to pick them to stay alive and wealthy.

Stephen Green has responded by suggesting Bill Bailey might have as much a case of ignorance as cowardice. The National Director of Christian Voice said today:

‘Quentin Letts is to be commended for sticking up for righteousness in the face of Bill Bailey’s onslaught, although his call for us to be booking seats may go unheeded as that would involve parting with money which would support the spiritually-challenged Bailey.

‘It could well be in the back of Bailey’s mind that Muslim anger could result in a burnt-out venue if he were to insult Allah or Mohammed or Islam, but that might not be the whole story.

‘Secularist minds, particularly those filled with dandelion floss, have a challenge getting up-to-speed with the threat that Islam poses in the longer term to their cherished sacred cows. They don’t know a great deal about it and they don’t really care.

‘They are stuck in a nineteenth-century time-warp where the church is deserving of a secularist onslaught because it is a strong part of the Establishment regaling the political sphere with prophetic denunciations of wickedness, arguing for Godly laws. They don’t notice that it hasn’t done that for sixty-five years.

‘In the alternative, Christian virtues are not yet totally dead in our land. Irritating Christians (very rarely Muslims) pop up from time to time objecting to Jerry Springer the Opera, or calling for chastity and fidelity in sexual relations, or saying people should work for a living, or that human life is sacred, or that God created the world. Such ideas, and such people, are obviously dangerous to secularism and they and their beliefs must be ridiculed.

‘Secularists hate Jesus with a passion, knowing he was truly the Son of God, the righteous one who had power to lay down his life and power to take it up again.

‘They really fear a world where Jesus as the Almighty Christ and Redeemer takes up the sceptre and reigns in righteousness.

‘They object to Jesus because his very existence insults their values and their lifestyle. They get what we Christians call ‘conviction of sin’. And they don’t like it one bit.

‘Secularists have a profound ignorance of Islam, whereas Christianity is all around them. Some went to Catholic schools, or to church or Sunday school, or they watched a Remembrance Day service once. Christianity is part of their social conditioning in a way Islam is not.

‘When he attacks Jesus Christ and all the Lord stands for, Bailey is railing against something he dimly understands and perceives as important and challenging to his world-view. He doesn’t understand Islam at all, and it is not important to him (yet). He has a smattering of Christianity, enough to convince his audience of his sagacity, but only enough to make a Christian pity him.

‘Bailey’s act is a tiny bit like Sir Ian McKellen ripping Leviticus pages out of the Bible on stage. That was an act of respect to Holy Scripture, not disrespect. The poor man valued the Bible enough to want it to say nothing against him and his perversion.

‘In the same way, Bailey accords respect to Jesus Christ even as he attempts to disrespect him. There is a sense in which Bill Bailey’s attacks on the person of Jesus Christ are a compliment – in the Oscar Wilde sense that the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

‘But all the same, I feel a Christian witness at Wyndham’s Theatre coming on. Any excuse for an evangelistic outreach!’

Election Leaflet Was ‘Hate Crime’

CHRISTIAN PREACHER CHARGED FOR OFFENDING GAYS

(6th September 2010) Colchester Magistrates are to hear the case of a Christian man accused of a public order offence in two weeks’ time.

Paul Shaw was charged by Essex Police with a ‘hate crime’ after an election address was distributed in Colchester calling – in very moderate language – for a review of whether sodomy and other homosexual acts should remain legal.

Two homosexual men complained to the police after the leaflet dropped through their door in south-east Colchester , leading to a completely over-the-top police search of Paul Shaw’s flat and confiscation of his diaries in June.

Mr Shaw was put in the cells, interrogated in what he describes as a ‘hostile and provoking’ interview, and then charged on 12th June with causing religiously aggravated harassment, alarm or distress by words or writing under Section 31 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

‘MAKE HOMOSEXUAL ACTS UNLAWFUL’

The ‘offending’ words were in an election address, distributed after Paul Shaw had stood for election as an independent at a time when he thought a new election was imminent. In a leaflet previously approved by the Returning Officer and the Royal Mail, he said:

I believe for example that homosexual and lesbian acts are immoral and that the law should reflect that; by making them unlawful as they once were; and so acting as a deterrent to such behaviour.

The concept of homophobia is nonsense and a play on words; it is not and has never been a phobia! A phobia is an un-natural fear; whereas a rejection of perverse behaviour; is a righteous godly fear; that fears to do wrong because it knows that there are consequences and punishment otherwise! This is the most pronounced example of a nation that has lost its way ..

Previous case withdrawn

However, during a preliminary hearing on Thursday 26th August, the Crown Prosecutor applied for an adjournment. This was in order, he said, to consider the implications for freedom of speech raised by the case. The Magistrate, District Judge David Cooper, readily agreed and the case was adjourned to Thursday 23rd September at 9.15am. Paul Shaw was up before the very same magistrate only a few months ago for preaching on the same subject, and Essex Police charged him then as well, leading to the CPS withdrawing the case.

PRAY the same thing happens this time. PRAY that justice is done and this attack on our historic freedom to preach the Gospel is defeated. PRAISE GOD for so much support for Paul. PLEASE continue to hold up our brother in prayer at this challenging time.

CHRISTIAN VOICE SUPPORT

Christian Voice is actively supporting Paul Shaw. We publicised his case as soon as he contacted us the day before his court appearance and immediately went down to Colchester to support him. It is just four years since Christian Voice National Director Stephen Green was arrested for a similar purported offence during the Cardiff Mardi Gras homosexual event in September 2006. He was put in the cells for four hours and charged under the Public Order Act 1986 Section 5. And in that case the same thing happened. At the committal hearing the CPS threw up their hands in horror and then withdrew the case.

Stephen Green promptly took South Wales Police to court for wrongly arrest, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution and won. South Wales Police settled out of court in a humiliation for arresting officer Inspector Alexander Chadd, head of the Force’s ‘Minorities Support Unit’.

NEXT HEARING

Christians are invited to come and support Paul Shaw at Colchester Magistrates Court, CO1 1FP on Thursday 23rd September 2010. The case is listed for 9.15am, but be prepared for it to be heard, as the August hearing was, in the afternoon.

In all, seven brethren came along to the August hearing at a moments notice to support Paul Shaw and the Gospel, so let us pray for an even bigger witness this time.

Classic FM Drops ‘Not the Messiah’

0

Leading classical music radio station, Classic FM, have dropped all their promotion of Eric Idle’s ‘Not the Messiah’, in response to a deluge of complaints from Christian listeners.

It took a couple of hours this morning for Classic FM executives to realise they had made a terrible mistake in promoting it.

Faced with hundreds of distraught emails sent over the weekend, and bombarded with so many telephone calls they stopped taking them, managing director Darren Henley ditched ‘Not the Messiah’ quicker than you can say ‘Whose bright idea was that?’

The radio station, which attracts 5.5 million listeners, advertised a competition to win tickets to see a film of ‘Not the Messiah’ over the weekend. The competition was also advertised on the Classic FM website.

But listeners were not amused to find their radio station promoting a militant atheist production insulting Jesus Christ and doing violence to Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus in the run-up to Easter. By 10am on Monday morning the competition was over and all reference to ‘Not the Messiah’, including images from the show, had been removed from the website..

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘I congratulate Classic FM’s Managing Director Darren Henley on doing the right thing and ending all reference to this divisive and offensive event on the radio station and website.

‘I am also pleased that Christian Voice was able to play a small part in explaining to Mr Henley the offence caused by the station’s promotion of Eric Idle’s atheist rant.

‘The trailers for ‘Not the Messiah’ show that it is not particularly good and going to it will probably be an evening wasted. It seems to have been something of a vanity production for Idle, a bit like the young man who hires the Albert Hall so he can give a concert where he plays or sings less than convincingly.

‘Classic FM has a good reputation, particularly in the amount of Christian music it plays. In the run-up to Christmas it is a particular joy to listen to. But during the rest of the year, the influence of Christianity on music-making is inescapable.

‘We give all the praise to God for the change of heart at Classic FM and we hope and pray they will be more discerning in future.’

Classic FM Promoting ‘Not the Messiah’

0

Classic FM are promoting the showing of the blasphemous ‘Not the Messiah‘, on the Classic FM website and in trailers.  ‘Not the Messiah’ is by Monty Python’s Eric Idle.  It is being screened in cinemas this Thursday (25th).  It is a musical version of ‘The Life of Brian’ in which Brian gets mistaken for the real Messiah and is crucified.  Well-meaning people will urge us to see it all as not about Christ but about Brian and to see the funny side.

But the film sponges off the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and this mock-oratorio parodies the glorious music of Handel’s masterwork.  It is even billed as ‘a spoof of Handel’s Messiah’.  It has the song from ‘Life of Brian’ which ‘Brian’ sang while hanging from the cross, ‘Always look on the bright side of life.’  Crucifixion is not funny.  It even has ‘Hail to the Shoe’ sung to the music of the Hallelujah Chorus.  That isn’t funny either.

While pretending ‘Not the Messiah’ is not blasphemous or offensive, Idle is well aware of what he is doing – mocking the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  According to Eric Idle: “There is no controversy .. it’s only people stupid enough to realise Christ is in the movie twice, and Christ isn’t Christ, so there’s no real controversy… It’s very simple – you either get it or you don’t.”

But Eric Idle is an avowed atheist and a supporter and reader of both Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.  He has a song on Atheist Nexus: ‘F*** Christmas‘.  This is a man with an agenda and a big anti-Christ chip on his shoulder.  I think we get it.  He is out to mock religion and people of faith; and it’s a great pity that Classic FM has joined him, showing contempt for their Christian listeners.

It is worth taking a look at the LIBRETTO:  The show opens with the words: ‘The Book of Brian’.  It then mocks the Biblical apocalypse, which it calls ‘Apocalypso’, blasphemes the Christian doctrines of the awesomeness of God and depravity of man, refers to ‘The Evangelist Monty’ – and we are still only on page 3 of a 22-page libretto.  Instead of the shepherds glorifying God, they ask ‘is it AD yet?’ and sing about how much they love sheep. Take a look, and see if all you hold dear isn’t being dragged through the mud, vilified and ridiculed.

EMI pulled the funding of a 2007 DVD release of ‘The Life of Brian’ after the CEO read the script.  Classic FM should have kept well away from ‘Not the Messiah’ as well.

READ: Unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.  They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable and unto every good work reprobate.  (Titus 1:15-16).
Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud upon their beds.  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand.  (Psalm 149:5-6)

PRAY: that Classic FM will pull all the trailers and the competition they are running for this event.  Pray that audiences will not turn up at the cinemas.  Pray that atheist Eric Idle will repent and turn to the Christ he is mocking.

Swedish Social Services Kidnap Child

2
Domenic Johansson before he was taken

A father who freed his son for two days from Swedish Social Services was released from prison last Saturday.  The son, aged nine, remains in foster care following the family’s decision to homeschool before a planned emigration to India .

Christer Johansson was arrested two months ago on a charge of kidnapping his own child after he, his wife Annie and his son Domenic walked out of a government ‘contact’ centre.

The Swedish SS believe they know better that parents how a child should be educated.  They believe it is better for a child to be forcibly placed ‘in care’ and made to attend a Swedish school than go to India with his parents and attend school there.

No Equality for Christians Despite Free Speech Claus

Christians today welcomed the stand taken on freedom of speech by the House of Lords. Their Lordships refused to give way to the House of Commons, which wanted to make it illegal for Christians to criticise the sexual practices and lifestyles of homosexuals.

By a majority of 44 (179 to 135) peers rejected the Government’s fourth and last attempt to abolish Section 29JA of the Public Order Act. The Section clarifies the law brought in last year to make it a criminal offence to use threatening language intending to stir up hatred against people on the grounds of sexual orientation. It also mirrors a similar section in the law against stirring up hatred on religious grounds. It says:

’29JA Protection of freedom of expression (sexual orientation)

‘In this Part, for the avoidance of doubt, the discussion or criticism of sexual conduct or practices or the urging of persons to refrain from or modify such conduct or practices shall not be taken of itself to be threatening or intended to stir up hatred.’

Peers were very much aware of the case of Pauline Howe. She wrote to Norwich City Council to complain about public money and effort being expended on a ‘gay pride’ march. In her letter she referred to homosexuals as ‘sodomites’ and blamed ‘their perverted sexual practice’ for sexually transmitted diseases and for the ‘downfall of every empire’.

Whether she was totally right in that or whether sodomy is simply the most visible expression of a failing empire in its death throes is open to debate, but the council broke the Data Protection Act by passing Mrs Howe’s letter to Norfolk Constabulary, who immediately sent two police officers around to threaten and intimidate her.

The vote by peers infuriated gay activists. Chris, Lord, Smith, said it would lead to attacks on homosexuals, conveniently ignoring the massive amount of violence perpetrated on homosexuals from within their own network.

The co-chair of LGBT Labour, Katie Hanson, said, ‘We are very disappointed that the new law will have an exemption in it for people on the basis of religious views. We do not want to let this rest. We will be urging the government to revisit this law in the new session of parliament … to make sure there are no exemptions to protection from homophobic hatred.’

Stonewall, the wealthy gay lobby group, said, ‘We’re worried that the unelected Lords have sent a message that intolerance is OK’.

Intolerance is certainly OK in the Governments’ Equality Bill, but it is intolerance of Christians and anyone disagreeing with the politically-correct view that homosexuality is just wonderful.

The Bill would force churches and faith-based organisations to employ practising homosexuals and transsexuals, allow atheists cleaners to object to the display of crosses and oblige public authorities such as local councils, the police, fire and ambulance services, hospitals and primary care trusts and even schools to promote homosexuality.

Care Trust libels suspended Christian nurse

1

A Healthcare trust has accused a Christian nurse it suspended for offering to pray for a patient of being more committed to her faith than to her work.

Caroline Petrie, a fully-qualified and registered community nurse, had just finished changing a dressing for an elderly patient when she asked in passing if the lady would like her to pray for her.

The patient declined, but when Mrs Petrie mentioned her offer of prayer to a colleague, her work-mate grassed her to management. She was suspended for the following thought-crime offences:

‘Failing to demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to equality and diversity’ and ‘Using professional status to promote causes that are not related to health.’

Her employer, North Somerset Primary Care Trust, is now deciding whether Mrs Petire should be sacked. But now, in a new statement issued today on its WEBSITE, the Trust says:

‘There are grounds for wondering whether the nurse’s sincere faith convictions about the efficacy of intercessory prayer are more strongly held than her commitment to a pattern of practice consistent with her professional role.’

The statement is not signed or authored, but responsibility for such a disgraceful slur has to rest with the Trust’s Chief Executive Chris Born. Mr Born has been busy making podcasts for the Trust’s website. No doubt every sentiment expressed is directly related to health.

In another extraordinary development, Christian Voice has discovered that North Somerset Primary Care Trust is a client of a consultancy which specialises in training local government bodies in how to enforce equality and diversity.

If we had not wrongly put ‘healthcare’ instead of ‘care’ between ‘primary’ and ‘trust’ and put double-inverted commas around the expression, and if Gem Consultancy had not also wrongly identified their client, the link would not have come to light. So praise the Lord for using our mistake to bring this relationship into the light.

Bristol-based Gem Consulting is run by founding partners Penny Gane, who likes inclusive partnerships, equality, diversity and sustainable development and Diane Bunyan, a feminist agitator who specialises in equality, diversity and social cohesion and advised the Equal Opportunities Commission on how Local Authorities should implement something called ‘Gender Equality Duty’. It lists 29 organisations, overwhelmingly in local govcernment, as clients.

Ms Bunyan was Labour Party leader of Bristol Council before losing her seat in May 2003, and said she was looking forward to spending more time with her family. But families are irksome things, and by December 2003, she and Penny Gane had Gem Consulting up and running with using their ‘practical experience, skills and techniques to help organisations change deeply ingrained cultures and attitudes and make equality and diversity part of everyday work.’

Christianity is obviously one of those deeply ingrained cultures which obstruct equality and diversity in modern British health trusts, but ironically, if it were not for the Christian faith, with its attitude of caring for the sick, there would be precious little health care in Britain today. Almost every hospital within our shores was founded out of Christian convictions.

Gem is onloy the tip of the iceberg. The Association of Equality and Diversity practitioners represents over 200 equality and diversity consultants. God willing, there will be more on both the diversity industry and on the Christian foundations of the NHS in the February Christian Voice.

Blasphemous Poetry Reading Cancelled After Christian Voice Campaign

0

A national bookstore chain have cancelled a reading of obscene and blasphemous poetry due to happen tonight after a 24-hour campaign by a Christian prayer and lobby group.

Waterstones were due to host Patrick Jones’ poetry reading in their Cardiff store tonight, but less than 24 hours after Christian Voice members began contacting the store and Waterstones’ top brass, the event has been pulled.

The store say it was down to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ but Kirsty Hardy , PA to Waterstone’s MD Gerry Johnson, was more honest: ‘It is not appropriate for our stores to host events that are potentially disruptive’, she told Christian Voice.

Members of the group were planning to attend the event.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘This is a triumph for the Lord, not for us. The Lord had not even showed me what we should do at Waterstones, only that it should be Christlike.

‘Nor was I even praying for the event be cancelled. But I now know many were, and their prayers have been answered, by a mighty God. We have not even had to go down to the battleground, let alone fight (2Chr 20:17). Just the knowledge that we were on our way has put the fear of God into the opposition.

‘But the fact is, we were prepared to go and do something, and it is that which I believe caused Almighty God to take our prayers seriously and perform a miracle.’

‘However, Waterstones are still selling Jones’ book “Darkness is Where the Stars Are” which is full of anti-Christian rhetoric and profanity. The poems, some of which Patrick Jones sent me yesterday morning in an act of hubris, aren’t actually much good, but they possibly have enough profanity and references to female genitalia to get the literati excited. One of them included the blasphemous if not terribly original line: ‘just like mary magdelene (sic), i f****d jesus’.

‘Waterstones have said they do not ‘act as a censor’ although plainly they do have editorial discretion. I now call on them to remove Jones’ book from their stores and their website.

‘But for Waterstones to tell Patrick Jones not to turn up, especially after he was boasting about the event, is a victory and we give all the glory to Almighty God.’

In August, protests in Cardiff by Christian Voice outside Hugh James solicitors and at the South Wales Echo led to the Echo apologising for a blasphemous article by Dan O’Neill.

Stephen Green concluded: ‘Even after the abolition of the law against blasphemy, companies need to think twice before insulting Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 53:1: ‘Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?’

———————————

This is the text of the leaflet our members are handing out at Waterstone’s stores around the UK – and beyond!

The Waterstone’s chain is selling a book full of disgusting profanity and references to female body parts which degrades women and insults decent people of all faiths and none. In the book is the offensive and blasphemous line: ‘just like mary magdelene (sic), i f****d jesus’.

Christmas is about Jesus Christ!
We are coming up to Christmas, the annual celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Put simply, Waterstone’s do not deserve to make one penny piece out of Christmas if they are prepared to insult the Prince of Peace, born of a woman, the babe in the manger who was born to be the Saviour of the World.

That’s why we are calling on you to boycott Waterstone’s and buy your books somewhere else this Christmas. There are plenty of bookstores where decent people can shop.

What should Waterstone’s do?
Waterstone’s Managing Director, Gerry Johnson, says they ‘do not act as a censor’, but that is nonsense. Of course they exercise editorial control when they decide which books to stock.

So Mr Johnson bears ultimate responsibility for allowing Waterstone’s to mount a blasphemous attack on Jesus Christ.

He should take the offending book – he knows which one it is – out of his stores and off the Waterstone’s website.

He should also publicly apologise to his firm’s Christian staff, customers and shareholders and exercise better judgment in future.

We are building a culture of disrespect
You can contact Gerry Johnson at Waterstone’s, Capital Court, Capital Interchange Way, Brentford, Middlesex TW8 0EX, phone him on 020 8742 3800 or email: gerry.johnson@waterstones.com

To be charitable, we must assume that Gerry Johnson was just being thoughtless when he agreed to stock a book insulting Jesus Christ.

But for thinking people, it is obvious as well as scriptural that ‘as a man sows, so does he reap’. And that must apply to a nation as well.

A lack of respect is a major part of the problem of Britain today. Jesus Christ told a parable about an ‘unjust judge’ (and there are plenty of those around). He said the judge ‘feared not God neither regarded man’. That is a perfect description of the mentality of the United Kingdom in 2008.

We are sinking into a hell on earth
Because our politicians ‘don’t do God’ they passed laws which encourage family breakdown and discourage commitment. Their ‘condom-culture’ has pushed young people into illicit sex. Half a generation of children are now growing up with no father. Then our politicians wonder why so many young people turn to antisocial behaviour, drink, drugs, crime and more promiscuous sex.

The Abortion Act has said human life has no value, and yet those in charge cannot understand why teenagers are killing each other.

Even our politicians cannot be trusted. Those in power cannot be relied upon to tell the truth and to keep their fingers clean of corruption.

We are sinking into a hell on earth; the Nation of the Book has become the nation of the crook.

So what should we do?
The whole of the UK should turn back to God! Our only hope is in the very same Jesus Christ insulted by Waterstone’s. If God is, as we Christians say, the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth, then He is self-existent, the loving, divine intelligence behind all creation, including us. It follows that since God created us, He needed to lay down the laws by which we should live. Jesus Christ (Christ means ‘Messiah’ or ‘God’s Anointed’) said: ‘Keep the Commandments’: worship nothing and nobody except God, do not blaspheme, disrespect parents or those in authority, and do not commit murder, adultery, stealing, lying or envy.

Love came down at Christmas!
Of course, we can’t live up to Jesus’s example or teaching, because we are only human. We have all done wrong by God’s standards, so we are all out of fellowship with God and destined for hell. Yet God is loving and merciful. He wants fellowship with us. But as He is righteous and holy, our sin prevents that. How can a holy God forgive us all the wicked things we have done in our lives and bring us into His presence in heaven?

By being born of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit in the person of Jesus, born to die on the cross so we could be forgiven. That’s how,

A bit of good news for a change
In Jesus, who did no wrong, God Himself died for us and rose again. Jesus Christ shed his blood that sinners might be forgiven. In God’s mercy and love for us He provided in Jesus the true sacrifice.

One day we shall all appear in the Court of Heaven. We shall all be guilty and deserving of death. But to those who believe in Christ, when sentence is passed, the Judge will say, ‘I have already paid the penalty for you myself.’ Because Jesus carried no burden of sin, he could take our sins on Himself and be our ransom. Us Christians know we are saved and forgiven. We are justified by the blood of Jesus. That is what sets us apart; not that we are better people, but that we are forgiven people. ‘The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’ (Rom 6:23).

Jesus is King!
Three days after His crucifixion, an angel met some women at the tomb of Jesus. He said: ‘I know ye seek Jesus who was crucified; he is not here, for he is risen as he said’ (Matt 28:5-6). The new life every Christian lives is the risen life of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit by the love and grace of God.

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended back to heaven, and was given the right to rule over all the kingdoms of the world. One day Jesus Christ, Messiah, King of kings, will return in judgment, to condemn the wicked and justify the righteous. God’s justice demands that the wicked be sent to hell. But when the books are opened in heaven, where will Gerry Johnson stand? What excuse will he give? And what about you, dear reader, when your name is called? How many times have you broken God’s righteous commandments? How will you stand in His sight, in that day?

‘I am the way’ says Jesus
Jesus had power to lay down His life and the power to take it up again. He was God made man. He laid down His life so that those who repent might be forgiven and have everlasting life. ‘Neither is their salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’ (Acts 4:12) The first public words of Jesus were: ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye and believe the Gospel’ (Mark 1:15).

No-one but Jesus will save you, and no-one but Jesus will save our nation. That command to repent goes out to individuals, to families, to churches and to nations. It goes to our nation. It goes to you. May we all turn to Him before it is too late. And then it really will be a truly, holy, Merry Christmas!

P.S. We should love to have your support, especially if you agree with us that there is too much disrespect around and that Jesus Christ should be honoured in Britain which is, after all, a Christian country!  Join Christian Voice by clicking the link below:

CPS Wrecks Baltic Centre Case

0

The Crown Prosecution Service has wrecked the prosecution of the Baltic Centre in Gateshead over the Zabludowicz statue.

The gallery exhibited the statue, which portrays Jesus Christ with a phallus attached, from September 2007 to January this year.

The exhibition led to protests at the gallery and demands for the statue to be destroyed. Christian Emily Mapfuwa brought a prosecution against the gallery for outraging public decency, but the CPS have taken over the case and discontinued it on the grounds “that there is not enough evidence to establish a case to answer”.

It appears the CPS believes there should have been actual public disorder before a case could be brought. Michael Phillips, solicitor for Emily Mapfuwa, said:

‘Although it is right to say that there was no actual disorder, there was potentially such disorder, which was evidenced to the CPS in the witness statements provided. In particular one witness felt like smashing the object. The decision is simply not in accordance with the facts and is unsustainable.’

Christian Voice National Director Stephen Green said tonight:

‘This decision urges Christians to create public disorder if we want a similar case to proceed in future. We are naturally reluctant to do that, and it puts us in new territory. On the other hand, there were those at the Baltic Centre who wanted to take matters into their own hands, and I have warned Anita Zabludowicz that her statue will not survive being put on public display again. If the CPS wanted to give the green light to blasphemous art, their decision may paradoxically have the opposite effect. With the threat of destruction hanging over it, the Zabludowicz statue is now locked away by its wealthy owners and is unlikely to see the light of day again. The same will go for any other blasphemous works of so-called art.  Put simply, Christians won’t tolerate insults to Jesus Christ.  However, I do hope that the art world will discover some respect for Christian religious beliefs and for the person of Jesus Christ.’

CV Meetings in Northern Ireland

Stephen Green says: ‘These are new and demanding times for Northern Ireland, and during my visit to the Province I shall be encouraging Christians to lift up their voices and call for repentance and a turning back to Jesus Christ, who is King of kings and Lord of lords.

‘The old certainties, it seems to me, are changing, and Christians need to be aware where the new threats are coming from. Who would have thought, for instance, that the first civil partnership would be registered in Northern Ireland, or that Ulster’s primary school children would be the first in the UK to have their innocence destroyed through mandatory sex education? There are moves afoot to impose the horrors of legal abortion on the Province. Will the Church have the conviction to stand against that?

I have a vision of a society where God’s law is preferred to secular ideas, and where there is peace and tranquillity. In such a society, individuals have responsibilities, married couples stay married, they bring up Godly children, perversion is not paraded through the streets, the State wields the sword of true justice, and God’s blessing is poured out. As the Psalm says:

“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.” Psalm 144:12-15 (KJV)

Lift Up thy Voice Like a Trumpet

I have been much challenged by Isaiah 58:1 recently, and the prophetic duty of the church in Ezekiel 33 to sound the trumpet of warning.  I have realised as well that the spate of knife and gun crime amongst the young has come just 40 years after the 1968 implementation of the Abortion Act 1967. In the Bible 40 years seems to speak of testing and judgment (Jonah 3:4). Much more evil was sown in the sixties as well, and I believe we are now reaping the results.

We were able to place an ‘advertorial’ at very low cost in ‘The House’ magazine which went last week to everyone at the Labour Party Conference.  It is appended below.  Does it strike a chord with you?

VIOLENT CRIME – SOWING AND REAPING

There is a Biblical principle that we reap what we sow. It applies to nations as well as to individuals. What politicians sow, the people reap. When politicians sow evil, the people reap misery, and the poorest reap it the worst.

The Divorce Reform Act 1969 and the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 introduced divorce on demand and no-fault settlements. The ease with which Parliament said marriages could break up sowed the idea that the promises made in marriage did not matter. The people have reaped a covenant-breaking mentality in which being divorced against your will or any kind of justice is taken for granted and the sum of human misery is increased.

Around that time, the state began to encourage teenagers to have sex with the only moral message being to use a condom. That resulted in profits to manufacturers and an explosion of teenage pregnancy. Now we have the disaster of teenage infertility. Every government initiative, including the HPV vaccine, will increase it, but as all the targets revolve around pregnancy, no-one in power cares about those young people they have made sterile.

An increase in the size of the state meant heavier taxation, and big business wanted a feminised, non-unionised work-force. So mothers were driven out of the home into paid employment. That bit of sowing increased the pressure on families and the poorest reaped it the hardest.

Taken together, these anti-Christian measures mean around half of children are now growing up without their father. Parliament has just said fathers aren’t even needed in families. How is a mother on her own supposed to restrain an adolescent son? How is she supposed to know what her teenage children are doing between the end of the school day and the time she gets home from work? Is it any wonder we are reaping massive disaffection among the young, showing itself in drunkenness, drug-taking, illicit sex and lawlessness?

And with the abolition of the death penalty in 1965 and the Abortion Act 1967, Parliament removed the death penalty from the guilty, by the state, where it belongs, and imposed it on the innocent within the family, where it does not. With those two measures, our politicians sowed the belief that innocent human life, made in the image of God, had no value.

We are now reaping a shocking callousness and brutality in society of which the growing trend of violent deaths of teenagers is the starkest evidence. And it is among the most disadvantaged sections of society that these deaths are having the greatest impact.

No doubt the parliamentary reformers of the sixties were carried away with secularist motives, determined to destroy the family and overturn the hated Christian morality, but did none of them stop to think, or care, that ordinary people, those they were supposed to represent, would be the hardest hit when society broke down?

The prophet Isaiah pronounced woe on those who call good ‘evil’ and evil ‘good’. And woe on today’s politicians, who are so in love with their own importance they cannot humble themselves and seek the Lord. Rather than reject the sixties secularist paradigm, they stumble around trying to put sticking-plaster on burst arteries. March offenders around hospital wards, have metal detectors in clubs and continue to embrace evil, with the mayor, the police and armed forces parading at the head of London ‘s annual display of immorality.

If God has mercy on us, He will remove from office those intent on evil, and replace them with men after His own heart. If not, we shall continue to descend into a mutual hell-on-earth of the politicians’ making. A nation which has just legislated that Christ may be blasphemed is not one which can expect to enjoy His blessing. So our message to those in power is the same as it was in the days of the prophets, and the same as in the days when God incarnate walked this earth as the Lord Jesus Christ: Everything you try in opposition to God will fail. Repent, turn to Christ, stop doing evil, start doing good.

Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. (Micah 2:1)

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, (Matt 6:33)

Christians Protest Over Jesus Slur

0

Christians mounted a protest this morning against an article in the South Wales Echo, which was also published on the paper’s website in association with Cardiff ‘s leading firm of solicitors.

The article, by Dan O’Neill, was published in the South Wales Echo on Wednesday 16th July and then put up on the Echo website where it was published ‘in association with’ Hugh James.

In the article, O’Neill firstly declares that the Bible is not the word of God. It was written by ‘a wild-eyed Bronze Age nomad’, he rages.

Then, in a remarkable display of ignorance of the social mores of the Holy Land in the 1st Century, he remarks that Jesus Christ could be accused of homosexuality because the Apostles were all male.

Not content with that, he says it is ‘suspicious’ that Jesus ‘picks up small boys and girls and puts his hands upon them.’ From there, the piece descends into a bigoted rant against Christianity.

This morning, a group of Christians gave leaflets about the matter to staff going in to the Hugh James offices in St Mary’s Street , Cardiff and met Rachel Rhys-Jones, who is in charge of the firm’s marketing.

From there, they moved to the office of Media Wales where they occupied the reception area, singing hymns and praying out loud before meeting with Simon Farrington, one of the Managing Editors.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said afterwards:

‘The senior partner at Hugh James, Gareth Williams, bears ultimate responsibility for allowing his firm to be associated with such a disgraceful attack on the Christian Faith by Media Wales.

‘He should pull his firm’s support for the South Wales Echo, apologise to his firm’s Christian staff and clients and cancel any further association with Media Wales.

We made it very clear to Simon Farrington that Media Wales should immediately take down the article from the web and publish an apology in the paper and on the web. He should also sack Dan O’Neill, whose column long since ceased to have any relevance to Wales in the 21st century.

‘Media Wales are moving offices at the moment, with their current premises scheduled for demolition. If Mohammed had been called a homosexual and a paedophile in their paper, they would not have to wait for the demolition teams to arrive. But they think they can attack the Christian faith with impunity. Today we showed that even though we would never resort to violence, Christians can mount a swift and effective witness against evil. We now look forward to a positive and gracious response from Media Wales.’
