A man has been arrested for burning pages of the Quran, according to the Daily Mail.
The protest came just two days after Salwan Momika, a Swedish anti-Islam activist, was shot dead near Stockholm after he burned the Quran there in 2023.
The man in Manchester carried out his desecration of the book the Mohamedans regard as ‘noble’ next to the city’s Glade of Light Memorial which commemorates the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena Muslim terrorist attack.
He also displayed an Israeli flag. The man was wearing a kippur, so he was Jewish. This was not a detail reported by the Mail.
A second man, apparently Muslim, tried to intervene, but failed to stop the protest.
‘This is what I think of your holy book’, yelled the protester, as page after burning page tumbled to the ground. The burning was live-streamed on social media by a number of people simultaneously.
Said video came to the attention of Greater Manchester Police. The man, 47, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a ‘racially aggravated public order offence’. Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Stephanie Parker told GB News: ‘We understand the deep concern this will cause within some of our diverse communities and are aware of a live video circulating.
‘We made a swift arrest at the time and recognise the right people have for freedom of expression, but when this crosses into intimidation to cause harm or distress we will always look to take action when it is reported to us.’
The problem
Firstly, let me make clear I am of course far too polite to insult someone’s religious faith in that way, or indeed at all. For clarity, let me also explain the laws of England and Wales only have one blasphemy law, in Section 74 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 . It’s called ‘Hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation.’
Section 79 of the same Act, since you ask, abolished the Christian common law offences of blasphemy and blasphemous libel, so Christians now have to take to the streets when our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is insulted or blasphemed.
Which is what Christian Voice did in 2006 over Jerry Springer the Opera , to great effect, by the grace of God, also in St Andrews over the play Corpus Christi, against the Sunday Mirror, and against the South Wales Echo.
There is no Islamic blasphemy law in any United Kingdom legal jurisdiction. So there are several troubling things about the Manchester Police response.

Firstly, the arrest on suspicion of a ‘racially aggravated public order offence’. You are probably way ahead of me. Islam is a religion, not a race. So an action against the Mohamedan heresy cannot be ‘racially aggravated’.
Secondly, the Stephanie says ‘We made a swift arrest at the time’. No you didn’t. Your boys in blue were not even there. You only sprung into action after the video came to your attention.
She says they ‘recognise the right people have for freedom of expression’. That’s nice, she should stop there, but you just know there is a ‘but’ coming. ‘but when this crosses into intimidation to cause harm or distress we will always look to take action when it is reported to us.’
The guy intimidated no-one. And by the way, I was not aware the followers of Mohamed were that easily intimidated. Their recent anti-Semitic marches, their routine violence at Speakers Corner, shows them anything but. Quick to take brutal offence, more like.
Lastly, her reference to ‘diverse communities’ gives the game away. There is a spiritual dimension here. If I may mix religious metaphors, the Jewish guy has offended the establishment’s sacred cow of multiculturalism.
Prefer to watch my analysis? here is the video.
A bit like some of the Southport protesters, asking, in colourful language, what place ‘Allah’ has in our land, the protester says the religion of Islam is not part of our way of life. He has done that in a way which carries great personal risk. The police should be protecting him, not arresting him, frankly.
But he has challenged an elite idea. And the sentences handed down in last summer’s display of two-tier justice show how the British state deals with that kind of insurrection.
Just for clarity, It is Jesus Christ who is Lord and King over our land, not multiculturalism, nor Islam.
As it is written:
Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.
Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Proclamation of that constitutional truth by our elites is the only way they will secure peace and stability in our land. Pray for them.
