For example, when was the last time someone came up to you and informed you they were ‘LGBQ’?
It’s a shame about the Scottish vicar though. I hope some kind soul gives his another job. Besides it is probably a blessing in disguise. Think about it. Would you really want to work for fascists if you were him?
I think they are more likely to tell you this en masse if you watch one of their “Pride” events, and much less likely to tell you individually, especially if you are unsympathetic, as perhaps Andrew is. There does seem to be, and always has seemed to be, a significant percentage of such people.
However, when I look into it, I find that the percentage in the UK now is probably only about 3%, rather more in London. They have always tended to occupy quite influential positions, and nowadays are very noisy.
On the other hand, it seems to be quite a new phenomenon that people, especially children, are convinced that they really are of the wrong sex and need an operation, despite there being no detectable physical abnormality. This has not happened before in such numbers as we are led to believe, and it would be interesting to know what the numbers of genuine cases really are. Many schoolboys would latch on to this temporarily as a laugh (wearing skirts to school for a few weeks until they get tired of it).
Who is the ” dictator” ? Is he perhaps a fantasy of Andrew’s ?
But what are Karen’s criteria for picking these particular news stories ? There are plenty of stories she could choose which Andrew would agree were indisputably real. I don’t think the term “Brutal Britain” covers all of them by any means, for example, not even the pagans demanding a Thought for the Day slot. British paganism is more like wild flower collecting than butchery.
Ah, you say that and yet it’s indicative of the nation spitting on the very Christian heritage which alone can save it from the kind of brutality and crassness we see in the other stories.
No more so than the Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus who get spots on Thought for the Day. We may doubt the complete authenticity of what modern pagans present (which may be true of other religions too), but “pagans” of some kind have a longer tradition of being in these islands than any eastern religion, even if for most people what is left is only “folk” tales, traditions and superstitions.
If it’s ancient hertitage you want, Sikhism even in India only goes back to about 1500. and widespread Protestantism in England is later than that. But the Ordnance Survey Maps reveal many “Holy Wells” which were holy long before Christianity took them over. Pretty and harmless, often with wild flowers.
Anyway, when was the golden age when Christian Britain wasn’t as “brutal” as it is now ?
You are spot on in paragraphs 1 and 2, IMHO. The Celtic Christians not only took over pagan wells for Christ, but built churches on Iron Age pagan burial sites and rebranded pagan festivals. Christmas is the most obvious, but also harvest festival.
As to para 3, it’s steps forward then backward. The monasteries organised effective social security but were dissolved. We were also getting there before WWI intervened. More recently, we may not have had all the material things of today, but it was unheard of in the 1950s for a man to be kicked to death outside his home for complained to some lads about the noise they were making. The broadcast antics of Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross in connection with the granddaughter of Andrew Sachs would never have happened just twenty years ago. The transsexual craze was unheard of fifteen years ago, as you yourself have observed.
We are becoming daily more crass and more brutal and the stories we pick illustrate that.

well, Rox, the gist of your post is that “everything is fine, we’ve always had these problems”.
As Jesus said, they will be eating and drinking, giving in marriage [was he being sarcastic here? few get married nowadays, except gays!], until sudden destruction comes upon them. It will take them completely unawares, as it appears it will to you.
Imo, the future of Western civilisation hangs now in the balance: will we as nations repent or not? It seems clear what side our “leaders” are on. Will The Lord raise up a John Wesley, or an Evan Roberts, etc to lead the nation to repentance?
However, the Bible seems clear: the New World Order, one-world governmant, Mark of the Beast, etc WILL come into place, sooner or later, headed by the Antichrist, who I have told you before is, imo, Obama. Trump is the only real leader, unless you include Putin, to stand against it. The Bible says the Tribulation will start when “he who restrains is taken out of the way”. I believe this “restrainer” is Trump. Most say it is the Holy Spirit, but many will be saved during the Tribulation, so how can the Holy Spirit not be present on the earth at this time? Also, just because God is pouring out His wrath, why does this mean the HS is not present? If its God’s wrath, then surely the HS IS present?

And someone told me (I haven’t checked it) that the numbers (a=6, b=12, c=18, etc) for “Ant and Dec” add up to “666” (the “Number Of The Beast” in Revelation: “This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” (NIV)). Personally, I find this hard to believe because the Antichrist will (I think, I could be wrong) be just one man, not two. Unless one of them is the False Prophet? Who really knows? On the item about halal meat, I can recommend the Christian Voice booklet “Labelling Halal”. This covers a lot of points very clearly, and I agree with its concludsions that meat should be labelled “Halal” if it is, or “Non-halal” if it isn’t. Also, that meat should be banned if it falls into a grey area where it can neither be accepted as Halal or non-halal (the booklet explains this),
There is a limit to what a booklet can deal with, but it seems to assume that all meat is recognisably the animal it comes from, like a leg of lamb. Grey area meat (whether lamb, beef, or even less grey pork), can disappear into products such as lasagne as well as sausages. There is no knowing really if part of your ready-meal has been dedicted to Allah.
I don’t see it as remotely Islamaphobic for non-Muslims not to want to eat Halal food. Is it anti-Semitic for Gentiles not to eat kosher food ? I don’t think Jews would ever expect them to. However, it would be interesting to know how halal and kosher food are managed in Israel.

It seems widely believed that Muslims can eat most kosher food (including meat), provided it does not contain alcohol. Nobody mentions the Muslim religious element in halal slaughter which the booklet highlights as being of importance to Christians.

Meanwhile, we are reminded that even if halal meat bought in the supermarket did have to be labelled, a halal sandwich made on the (small) premises, or even on the premises of a very well-known large chain would not. I think tracking down sesame seeds with certainty ought to have priority over tracking down Islamic blessings, which are much less easy to prove chemically.
It occurs to me that some supermarkets DO make sandwiches, and indeed bread etc, on the premises. So there is no requirement for them to warn of sesame seeds, and there is nothing to stop Muslim employees blessing them either !
Who knows, they might do ? In France, I have seen elderly people with very little commitment to Christianity making a tiny cross with the point of the knife before cutting bread, just as a habit which they were taught by their parents.
