We are rejoicing that the Israel Defence Force has liberated four of the hostages taken by Hamas terrorists during the atrocity they visited on their neighbours on 7th October last year. Around 120 hostages remain in Gaza, and over 40 have already been pronounced dead, according to reports.

The Hamas and PLO Charters
Let us not forget, Hamas is committed by its founding Charter to destroy Israel ‘from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.’
Its Charter (Article 7) repeats a Muslim article of faith in the Hadith (the sayings of Muhammed) that Muslims must kill all Jews:
‘You (i.e. Muslims) will fight against the Jews and you will gain victory over them. The stones will (betray them) saying: ‘O ‘Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.’ Hadith reported by Al-Bukhari
The Charter of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, dominated by Fatah, which runs what is popularly known as the ‘West Bank’, does not mention the Hadith, but still aims to expel what it calls ‘Zionism’, that is the State of Israel, through ‘armed struggle’. Watch our video:
Two-State Solution
Since 7th October the streets of London have been filled with people demonstrating not for the peace of Jerusalem, or for the safety of Jewish people in their land, or ours, for that matter, but for Hamas.
Advocating a two-state solution is already the policy of His Majesty’s Government, but they currently will not recognise a State of Palestine without Israeli agreement.
However, a political party in the UK, one which may form the next government, has said it would have the United Kingdom recognise a Palestinian state unilaterally.
Three quarters of the UN

Three quarters of the United Nations’ membership already do the same (144 out of 193). Those in green on the map.
It’s every Muslim nation, most of Christian Africa, the Caribbean, South America and Asia. The BBC reports Spain, Ireland and Norway have just joined them.
We stand for truth here, and to regard two states existing side by side, one of which calls for the destruction of the other, constantly firing missiles into it, as even remotely plausible, is the politics of absurdity.
It stands right up there with believing Net Zero is achievable, or that a man can be a woman, or that it won’t harm children to see pornography so long as it’s in sex education.
The spiritual perspective
But recognising a state of Palestine goes further than absurdity. Because there is a spiritual perspective.
Here’s the prophet Balaam pronouncing God’s blessing on Israel. Not only that, but those nations who stand with Israel God will bless, and those who work against that nation God will curse:
Numb 24:9b Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
The theme persists. Centuries later, the prophet Zechariah reported that in the day of the LORD, God himself will:
Zech 14:2a … gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken,
He goes on:
Zech 14:3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
Nations under a curse
Out of that, an argument can be made that any nation which recognises a Palestinian State without Israeli acceptance is cursing Israel and putting itself under a curse.
The word of God appears to say that in order for blessing from on high to fall upon the United Kingdom, for example, we must stand with Israel.
Being constitutionally a Christian nation we must also support Christian brothers and sisters both sides of the divide in the Holy Land, but recognising Palestinian statehood does not do that either. Nor does it bring peace, in my humble opinion.

Psa 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
Please indeed pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for humility and wisdom for those in authority over our nation. Open their eyes, Lord, to the spiritual dimension.

Dear Stephen,
I have a lot of sympathy for your stand regarding Israel but you ought to know that applying OT curses and blessings to the natural seed of Abraham is flawed theology. The New Testament which interprets the Old tells us that the spiritual children of Abraham are the true Jews (Romans 4 and Galatians 3:29). Hence it is the persecutors of the elect believers in God’s church that God curses if they do not repent. The Jews in Israel are in the majority haters of our Saviour so they need the gospel as a priority even moreso than an end to Muslim murder and aggression.
Good to hear from you Julian, but we do not apply OT blessing and curses on Israel to the church, nor replace Israel with the church here. There are, after all, 24 elders:
Rev 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
But we do agree Jewish people need to hear the Gospel, of course.
What applied to Abraham only applies to his true seed which is the church, those who have the faith of Abraham. To apply curses to all who hate the Jewish state is absolutely wrong because the Jewish state is a godless as any other. The Jews as a race are NOT God’s people except the believing remnant as Romans 11 clearly teaches. What the 24 elders in Revelation has to do with this beats me! Physical Israel is not the church-prove that it is from Scripture! The one new man of Ephesians is the church
We never say Israel is the church. The church is the body of Christ. Israel is the bride of Christ.
To contend that because present-day Israel is ‘godless’ (which it is) then that nation has foregone all its unconditional promises is a secular argument. We seek the Lord in the scriptures here. The prophet who condemned Israel and Judah’s apostasy more than any other was Jeremiah. But what did the Lord say through him? That Israel remains God’s people, despite their sins:
Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
Jer 31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
Thanks Stephen. I thought your article was well-balanced. In our support for Israel, we must also call them to account for any injustices or corruption. May I commend to your readers an excellent regular commentary on the situation in Israel/Gaza? I agree with you Stephen, that God will curse those who curse Israel because they are His Covenant people, His treasured posession and the Apple of His eye. Romans 11 tells us that God’s Covenant with Israel is not annulled, even though most of them have for now failed to recognise Jesus as their Messiah. Ezekiel chapters 36 and 37 tells us that He will bring them back to their Land after an extended exile, but it will initially be in unbelief; and He has done just that. He will also bring into Judgement those Nations who divide His Land, as Joel 3 tells us.
As for the ‘Two State Solution’: Great Britain already divided the territory of the Palestine Mandate in 1923. The Land of Israel was under foreign occupation by successive Empires for Centuries, as were the other countries in the region. It was the Roman Emperor Hadrian who renamed Israel /Judea, ‘Syrian Palestina’ in 135AD, after the Old Testament in order to disassoiate the Jewish homeland from its people. The Arab Muslims invaded in 637, 5 years after Muhammad’s death in 632.
The Ottoman Empire were the Last occupiers of the region apart from the British. They ruled from 1517-1917, when they were defeated and expelled from the region. Under the Ottomans, there was no administrative region called Palestine. The territory was included in the Syrian region and the Arabs living there were called Southern Syrian Arabs.
Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WW1, the former Ottoman territories were split into regions to be administered by Britain and France. Britain was given a Mandate to administer ‘Palestine’ in 1920 at the San Remo Conference. It was acknowledged as being the Biblical and Historical homeland of the Jews and included all of present day Israel and all of present day Jordan. In 1922/23, they decided to partition the territory, giving the 77% which lay on the east side of the Jordan River to the Arabs. The Jews were left with 23% of the original Mandate territory. The portion to the east of the Jordan was Arab Palestine, the portion to the west – from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea – was supposed to be Jewish Palestine and Britain was charged with the responsibility of encouraging Jewish Immigration to their homeland, which they did not do.
Throughout this time, until 1948, the Jewish inhabitants were called ‘Palestinians’, the Arabs were simply called Arabs.
