A blog on the Daily Telegraph has shown how the bus advert storm has highlighted a homosexual activist U-Turn.

Brendan O’Neill, editor of Spiked, says it used to be ‘the gays’ who emphasised their choice of sexuality and said they had a right to whatever orientation and lifestyle they wanted.

Now, he says, organisations like Stonewall have switched their position.  Now it is all: ‘Be nice to poor us; we cannot change who we are; we are stuck like it; get over it!’

He also says that nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century Christians held to the determinist position, but that they have switched around as well.  He is on less sure ground there, although it depends on which theology a certain Christian holds.  The evangelicals, such as the prison psychiatrist of Liverpool nick in the 1950s, Dr F H Brisby, who wrote an article for the BMA cataloguing homosexuals who had changed which was submitted to the Wolfenden Committee, have always maintained that Christ can heal and transform our pathological nature.

But as for ‘the gays’, he is bang on target.  When I researched my book ‘The Sexual Dead End’, I found a strong emphasis amongst homosexual writers of the 1970s and 1980s on sexual freedom and the right to choose our ‘orientation’.  Agreed, it was strongest amongst the lesbians, where ‘going gay’ is seen as a logical feminist rejection of what they see as a male-dominated society.

Books like ‘Pink Triangles’ and ‘With downcast gays’ had a theme of sexual freedom, but it was at its strongest in the Gay Liberation Front Manifesto.  In other words it was the radical end of homosexual activism which emphasised freedom of choice, while the political savvies saw that determinism was a better way to achieve their aims.

All the same, Leo Abse, when bringing in the Sexual Offences Bill 1967, which started the whole gay machine rolling, attributed the curse, as he put it, of homosexuality to a lad growing up without a father figure with whom to identify.  The lack of a proper identification as a member of one’s one sex is still seen as one of the routes into homosexuality by conservative psychiatric professionals – and Christians in healing ministries, today.

Homosexual behaviour was looked upon as just a matter of sin until people like Carl Ulrichs and Magnus Hirschfield came along in the l880s and proposed the ‘third sex’ idea.  Sigmund Freud opposed their determinism and rejected a genetic or hormonal predisposition in a move which was catastrophic to homosexual political aspirations.

It was when Simon Le Vay found differences in the brains of homosexual men as against a heterosexual control group that the determinists got really exited, despite LeVay himself admitting:

“It’s important to stress what I didn’t find.  I did not prove that homosexuality is genetic, or find a genetic cause for being gay.  I didn’t show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work.  Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain (as quoted in Byrd, et al., 2001).”

Hard on Le Vay’s heels came Bailey and Pillard’s ‘gay twins’ in 1992/1993 and Dean Hamer’s ‘gay gene’ in 1993.  Now the determinists and the homosexual politicos were cooking.  Hamer’s results have not been replicated, and he didn’t claim to have found a ‘gay gene’ responsible for all homosexuality either.

So to come right up to the present, the Christians behind the proposed bus ads are emphasising what gay activists were in the 1980s, that a homosexual lifestyle is chosen, learnt behaviour.  Where they differ is in mainataining that such a lifestyle is not a good thing and that the underlying pathologies can be dealt with and a person restored to how God intended him or her to be through the healing power of Jesus Christ.

And it works; men and women have walked away from the homosexual lifestyle and had their orientation changed by Jesus Christ.  Their stories are the ones which cannot be allowed to be heard in today’s politically correct climate, but they will not go away.

And it is because Christian healing is such a political time-bomb that Stonewall have to reject it, with all the determist fervour they can muster.

  1. I think people should educate themselves on the history of pressure groups and the one I would concentrate on is Liberty.

    I have asked Liberty to help two whistleblowers of institutional child abuse who have been jailed and both times they have refused to help. That makes three times that I have asked Liberty for help, because I also asked them to help me when I was going through the secret family courts, and the excuse that they gave that time is that they didn’t have time and couldn’t afford to help me. Which is strange, because when you look at what I wanted help for and the help they have given other people, I would say that they don’t seem to priorotise very well.

    Answer: If only the argument was still in the 1960s timewarp about what consenting adults decide to do. Now it is about rights and demands and honour and shutting up anyone who disagrees.

      Given your willfulness to delete comments on here that challenge you, or point out the flaws in your argument, you’re not really in the best position to complain about people shutting up with those that disagree with them. Let he who is without sin and all that.

        The choice to not allow all and any comments to appear is less about shutting people up and more about not having to listen to those who are described in this verse from Mathew. The CV moderation is providing a filtration service. Christian are no more oligated to listen to active sceptics that the sceptics are to them.

        • Your reply is commendable in its compounding of the hypocrisy.

          It might be useful and save everybody time if you could say what topics and observations will be (I believe the euphemism is) ”moderated”.

          We know already that mention of the schisms between the various flavours of Christianity is a no go area – what else?

          • Alex, responsible Christians don’t claim to be without error. They can’t claim personal moral (or semantic) perfection, only point towards it. You are trying to get the better a Christian in a debate, you should be measuring yourself against Christ.

  3. So tell us, Stephen. In an ideal Christian Voice world, what would happen to practicing homosexuals? Would they be left alone to get on with their lives, much as you find their sexual practices abhorrent? Or would they be subject to some form of control? And if the latter, what form would that control take?

    Be honest.

    • The Bible says that this world is never going to be perfect, but the Lord is coming back and he will take the ones who love him away. The Lord told us to preach the good news of salvation, and he said that in the last days it will be like the days of Noah and his Ark. Noah got laughed at for trusting Gods word and God had asked him to make an Ark but lots of people thought Noah was very silly, until all the rain came and they all got drowned.

          • The Bible quite clearly condemns homosexual or lesbian behaviour, and also clearly states that these people will not enter the kingdom of Heaven. As will all sinners, but let us not forget that there are more sins than the sexual ones. Lets hope they find forgiveness

    • Personally, I believe a return to the position pre-1967 would be an improvement on today. But the Biblical standard says that no-one can be convicted unless there are two witnesses. That applies to all crime, not just sexual crime. So of course if two men were doing something in private, they would never be brought before the Court. They can, as you say, ‘get on with their lives’.

    • The Bible says that we have all sinned… Therefore, am doubtful that there is such a thing as ‘an Ideal Christian world’.

      The Bible also clearly points out in Leviticus 18: 22 “Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.

      I am a Christian. I fear God. We are reminded not to judge anyone, regardless of who they are, or what they have done. We need to remember that first and foremost, ‘God is Love’! Today, I am here & proud to be a Christian, because I too have experienced the love, care, protection, mercies and kindness of God in my life.

      Let us not strive with each other regarding homosexuality. This is not man’s battle to win! It is the Lords! Instead, let us continue to seek God, and pray for our brothers and sisters, who are living such a lifestyle.

      2 Chronicles 7:14 says ‘If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land’. Only He who created this world, can truly fix it.

      Whether we choose to admit it or not, ‘Gays’ are our brothers/sisters. And God loves us, ALL…. especially sinners. This was the reason for Calvary. So please, let us pray for each other.

    • Well, if the last days are going to involve a flooding of the earth, there’s not enough rain, if you want a flippant answer. More logically, there is no scientific reason to believe that the world will end within my lifetime.

          • Firstly: Genesis 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
            So there will not be a world-wide flood.
            Secondly: Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
            Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
            ‘Until the day’. The Lord’s comparison is with the conditions pre-flood.

  5. I know, I don’t have to believe.

    I’ve had one example by personal witness, as in, it happened to me. I was first warned by a friend to drive carefully down a hill on the motorway just before Portsmouth towing a caravan. Then I had a dream where my family were sitting on a long wooden bench in a room with very high windows.

    When we drove down the motorway at that place, I was driving at a reduced speed down this hill near Portsmouth, on my friend’s advice; when the car and caravan started to snake violently without any warning. I thought we we were all going to be killed in a very nasty road accident on a very busy stretch of motorway. Something, I know not what, made me brake sharply at an exact moment during the very violent being thrown about in the car as the snaking increased more and more in strength.

    The car ended up being spun into the crash barrier of the outside fast lane, with the carvan detaching itself and going many yards on its side down the inner lane of the slow lane of the three lane motorway. Miraculously, we only suffered minor bumps and scratches and all the other traffic had managed to slow down and stop futher back on the motorway, without incident. Had we been driving faster, I have no doubt whatsoever that we would all have been killed.

    I had to wait at the scene as my wife and children were driven off to Cosham police staion nearby. When the damaged and crashed car and caravan (both in a written off state) were removed and recovered from the mortorway, I was told by the investigating officer that they had found a faulty brake on the caravan that had caused the snaking and jack-knifing of the vehicles.

    But to my complete and utter total astonishment, when I was taken to see and be with my wife and children they were sitting on a long wooden bench in a room at the police station with very high windows, EXACTLY, and exact in every detail as I had seen them in my previous dream, windows the same size and same place and exactly as in my dream. I had never seen the room before, nor anything remotely similar in my entire life, so I have absolutely and utterly no explanation for this. I cannot explain this in any way, except the prior dream was exactly true to something that happened afterwards. I do not believe it is possible to provide any rational explanation for this, there simply isn’t any rational explanation. In my own personal living experience, some things defy explanation, totally.

    Hence I know that there are unseen forces and unseen things that influence our lives sometimes very greatly and remarkably. To actually see into the future something that hasn’t happened yet, in a dream is a remarkable and astonishing experience. I will never doubt the existence of God come what may.
