A plan to serve up halal meals to Muslim inmates in a French prison has been dropped, reports Associated Press.
The council of state said yesterday (23rd July 2014) that providing Halal meat at Saint-Quentin-Fallavier prison in Grenoble, eastern France, was impractical “owing to its financial cost and high needs for organization.” That view was upheld by the Council of State on 16th July 2014, which is the highest court in France, after the Court of Appeal had directed the state to provide such meals in March.
France’s Justice Minister Christiane Taubira also argued the plan would infringe France’s robust rules on secularism that ban religious expression in public places. France’s highest appeals court will have the final say.
The plan — which could have proved a test case — was being considered after the request of a Muslim inmate last November.
The French decision is in marked contrast to that of the Prison Service in Britain (see below), where Muslims have become so used to halal food, they are suing because pork DNA was found in it.
France has the largest Muslim population in western Europe, estimated at some 5 million. An investigation last year found evidence of Islamic oppression and harassment against non-Muslim inmates in French prisons.
The French magazine Valeurs Actuelles obtained a secret French government document about “proselytism in custody”. Written in 2011, it describes how Islam has taken over the French prison system. Non-converts are subject to pressure, insults, threats and violence. They are marginalised in day-to-day prison life.
BRITAIN SUED OVER PORK IN PRISON HALAL PIES
The situation seems little better in British prisons. The BBC reported in 2010 that gangs of Muslim prisoners were becoming an increasingly powerful force.
“Muslims run the prisons and there’s nothing the screws can do about it. For a Muslim you’d say it’s good but for a non-Muslim, it’s very, very bad,” said a former inmate.
In March 2014 the Guardian reported that the number of Muslims in the prison population had more than doubled to nearly 12,000 in a decade.
The 2011 census showed Muslims represented 4.7 per cent of the population in England and Wales, yet one in seven prisoners (14 per cent) in England and Wales is a Muslim, according to the statistics.
Amongst young offenders, the position is even more striking. The proportion of Muslim offenders is growing year by year. One in five males in young offender institutions identified themselves as Muslim in 2011/12, compared with 16% in 2010/11.
Our Government have bowed to pressure from Muslim inmates to serve them halal food. In September 2013. it was reported that some 200 Muslims were taking the Prison Service to court because traces of DNA from pork, which is strictly ‘haram’ or ‘forbidden’ in Islam, were found in supposedly ‘halal’ pies from a halal certified supplier.

EXTREMISM TAKING OVER BRITISH PRISONS
Since Islam is a religion built around observance and not around the repentance demanded by Christianity, it is perfectly possible to be a criminal – to be a terrorist or even to run a drug firm, a prostitution ring or an extortion racket – and still be a good Muslim.
The Government is so concerned that prisons could become breeding grounds for terrorism that it it has has deployed imams to help steer them away from extremist paths.
Yet even this desperate move is set to backfire. An expert has warned that imams with links to extremist Muslim groups are helping to turn Britain’s prisons into ‘state-funded breeding grounds for extremism‘.
Professor Anthony Glees, head of the centre for security and intelligence studies at the University of Buckingham, said: ‘Our prisons have turned into a state-funded breeding ground for extremism. It is completely unacceptable that imams with extremist views are allowed to preach in prisons.’

BURQA BAN LAWFUL
Earlier this month, Judges at the European court of human rights upheld France’s ban on wearing the burqa, accepting the French governments’ argument that it encouraged citizens to “live together”.
Foirmer president Nicolas Sarkozy told the French parliament when introducing the ban that the burqa was a sign of “servitude” that isn’t “welcome on French soil.”
There is no sign of such a ban being introduced in the United Kingdom, despite concerns that terrorists can use the dress to escape detection.
Somali-born Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed, 27, escaping police by changing into a burqa in the An-Noor Masjid and Community Centre in Acton, west London, last November. Yassin Omar, now convicted of attempting to blow up a tube train on 21st July 2007, also attempted to evade detection by wearing a burqa.
Latest atrocity from the followers of what Tony Blair described as the ‘Religion of Peace’: Christians crucified by ISIS in Syria. Thanks, Mr Hague.

I have deeply discounted several of my books as a way to introduce myself to new readers. My husband and I are involved in a jail ministry in Ky. and I have been allowed to bring a couple of my Christian novels (in paperback form) each week to give to the women there. They pass them around after they finish and the women are always requesting more. The books are not preachy and they have good stories but most important, the inmates get a chance to live inside the mind of a Christian. The books are making and impact. One inmate shared that she was saved during the reading of “Lovely Strings,” and another has expressed her wish that she was like Shelly from the “As if They Held Forever,” series ($0.99 temporarily). I fund the paperbooks by my Ebook sales. If you are interested in reading Christian fiction that is romantic and intriguing and contains mystery, while being able to help support bringing others to Christ who are incarcerated, please have a look at my books. Threads of Regret, Lovely Strings, As if They Held Forever, As if They Always Knew, Heartstorms and Hummingbird Wars. Thank you! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K9U90IE
Where is ‘Ky’?
Kentucky perhaps?
Probably Kentucky
Punishment has become a dirty word in the UK, if behaviour merits prison then punishment must be just, you do not have Christian terrorists, bank robbers, brothel keepers, wife beaters. rue Christians attend a place of worship regularly, care for the lost and dying, that great Satan Islam should have no privileges in the UK but should be subject to deportation orders to strict sharia Muslim countries, being born in the UK should not be considered by those who have no respect for the UK and should be treated as foreigners which do not deserve to live here.
Most of the Muslims in this country do not come from countries with strict Sharia law, and nor did their parents. Are you really saying they should all be deported to such a country ? These countries would simply not accept them, why should they ?
Apart fom the police who do a good job in catching the miscreants the rest of our justice system is a joke. For example: so-called life sentences where you can be out before you serve your full time and open prisons where you can just abscond if you feel like it. According to the liberal/left/PC brigade/ prison reform lobby our system must not be vengeful and must rehabilitate. What about good old fashioned PUNISHMENT?
Today you do not reap what you sow and with a nice liberal judge you can reap a nice crop of an indulgent, easy slightly inconvenient sentence for what you have done! Victims are a nuisance but it is they who have the life sentence of loss of a loved one or disabling injury inflicted by some or other psychopathic criminal.
So good for the French. Why are we so accommodating?. The authorities are quick to clamp down on Christians but are super tolerant of Muslims “its their religion”. If they cannot control Muslims in prison this is merely another pathetic failure of the whole system.
We will reap what we sow as a country for all these things and it won’t be pleasant!
The UK prison service has the same budget to feed each prisoner. However Islamic charities supply Halal food at subsidized cost. So the Muslim prisoner gets better quality food. This acts as an incentive for prisoners to convert to Islam.
It is interesting that in both England and France prisons are so dominated by Muslims in numerical terms that there is any chance of domination in religious or “administrative” terms by Muslin prisoners.
Further to my previous comment I came across this from Amos 6:12 …………….
” But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness”
the prophet was talking about Israel but. I think the same can be said of the UK. Consequences will follow!
Stephen, you must make clear whether you are referring to halal meals or meals made with ingredients that have been prepared in accordance with halal instruction. This isn’t nitpicking, without it we can not properly gauge the arguement. Also, glad to see that you have given the anti homosexuality Schtick a miss for once. In sure there are more issues of relevance in the current news rather than the icing of a rather small cake in Belfast….
The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland and the man who brought the complaint seem to think the cake is rather important.
Why don’t you have a word with them?
Gosh, I’d really love to see them ask a Muslim baker to do this cake for them.
So…..
France’s Ban The Burka People: “We should allow citizens to live together by banning the burka which many Moslem women wear because they wish to! This allows more people to live together in harmony as they know there beliefs are being oppressed!”
Me:…..
Surely, EVERYONE can see what the problem is here?
The problem is that in Western civilisation the wearing of black masks which conceal the face has always been seen as sinister and suspicious. It is not compulsory in Islam at all.Very many Muslim women do not do it, even in Islamic countries.
The fact is that Muslims who wear black masks all the time are never going to be able to live in harmony with normal Western society, for example will they sit like that on the beach, or inter-act with a class of children they are teaching, or take part normally in any routine inter-action with other people ? I don’t normally tell anybody to “go back to your own country”, but the fact is, if they insist on behaving like this, they are never going to be happy in England or France.
Dullah, you may “WISH” to go around London (or indeed Cairo) stark naked, but that will not improve your harmonious living with the natives, and if you are politely restrained, this will not be oppression of your beliefs.
We have recently seen many pictures of Muslims with black masks and Kalashnikovs. They appear to be wearing them to conceal their identity, not for any compelling religious reason, so it’s difficult to believe that reasonable Muslims would not sympathise with the Western view of face concealment if they thought about it.
Ok. Just so you know, I LIKE wearing clothing.
ANYWAYS….. Yes, the burka is not compulsory but some women feel like it strengthens their relations with God and some feel a headscarf suffices. Do you really want to deprive them from a possible way to be closer to God?
They could do it in private, go into a convent perhaps if Muslims have convents. They have harems. But even nuns don’t walk round Tescos wearing a sort of tent made out of blackout material, like scary squat Daleks. It gives me a real shock when I bump into one of these, especially as you can’t readily at first make out which is the front and so don’t know which way the thing is going.
I really mean this. They do give me a shock, they are scary. I am not the only person to feel like that. Why should we have to put up with this on the grounds that they say it strengthens their relations with God ? Or Allah. Stephen strenuously denies that Allah and God are the same. What proof is there that Allah is closer to women who wear clothes that frighten other people ?
Some European women might feel it strengthens their relationship with Nature to wear skimpy bikinis, or even go topless, but they would not be allowed to do this contrary to the culture of some Muslim countries. If you want extreme visible relationship strengthening, you have to be careful to do it in the right place.
yes, Dullah, I think that inceasing numbers of people are indeed waking up to “what the problem is here” The problem is that islam is incompatible with Western values.
Let me ask you a question: do you think the burqua should be removed for, for example, airport security scans, passport photos, etc?
