Schools have closed after Islamists murdered 22 school children in North-Eastern Nigeria.
The attack on a secondary school in Yobe came on Saturday and was carried out by Boko Haram, which literally means ‘book’ or ‘alphabet’ (by extension non-Islamic education) is ‘unlawful’.
The Islamists forced the children into a dormitory and then shot them before setting fire to the school.
As a result, Yobe Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has ordered all secondary schools to close until the start of the new academic term in September, to allow state and federal government officials and community leaders time to work out how to guarantee their safety.
Governor Gaidam condemned as “cold-blooded murder” Saturday’s attack on the Mamudo boarding school, describing the attackers as “callous and devoid of any shred of humanity”.
Boko Haram targeted two schools in the region in June, but dozens have been burned across Nigeria in attacks by Islamists since 2010.
More than 600 people were believed to have been killed in 2012 by the group, which is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim north.
This attack is in spite of the State of Emergency declared by the Federal Government in three states including Yobe.

In contrast, the U.S. has failed to designate Boko Haram as an Foreign Terrorist Organisation and five days ago, US President Obama blamed the rise of Boko Haram not on militant Islam but on the Nigerian government.
Tomorrow, Channel 4 will begin broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer, coinciding with the start of Ramadan.

(US president) Sir, I and my brethren are in great turmoil as to the reason why you apparently believe that the operation of the group calling themselves Boko Haram was justified because of the policy of the elected Nigerian government. I’m not a theologian, nor skilled in philosophical argumentation and counter-argumentation as Robin has pointed out, but to me loving your enemies and embracing Islam would seem to be very similar, if you believe that Islam is an enemy .

Loving our enemies does not mean becoming like them. It is not hypocritical for us to love our enemies.

Muslims are not our enemies their beliefs are. We do not and never will serve the same God.
God loves us despite what we do. Until we ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus as Saviour we are God’s enemies.

That is a very bleak philosophy. You would need to be a monk; no, a hermit.
And yet you have to love your enemies, while not having any earthly friends ?

But David, Christians and Muslims and Jews all know that there is only one god, and agree on many of his early doings with people like Abraham and Moses. He must be the same god. If not, you would argue that when Muslims and Jews pray, they are not praying to a god at all. But then, how do you know that you are praying to a god ? What’s sauce for the Jewish goose is sauce for the Christian turkey and the Muslim lamb.
What I meant was that an embrace is a sign of love and friendship. If, as you say, it is the beliefs called “Islam” which are your enemy, then surely you should love and embrace Islam. I totally agree that this would not be hypocritical. Paul said “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” Various embraces and greetings are encouraged in some church services. Go out and embrace a Muslim. Jesus said “Love your enemies”.

I know logic is not your strong suit, but for Christians and Muslims to agree there is only one God (or god) is not to agree he (or it) is the same being. When Muslims pray, they are praying to a demonic entity (‘Allah’) which they believe is a god.
‘Love your enemy’ has to be read in its Old Testament context, which is not that of protecting a rival ideology (that would be silly) but that of looking after the interests of a fellow human being with whom you do not get on.
As in: Exod 23:4 If thou meet thine enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.
Sorry, but I’m not pretending to be obtuse. But as I have already confessed to Robin, none of us come up to his high standards of formal logic and rhetoric, counter-disputation and the rest of it. I don’t notice any contributors using this kind of technical terminology except him. So OK, logic is not our strong suit in this country, unlike in America, and in France where philosophy is a compulsory and much respected school subject. As I keep maintaining to Robin, there is NOT one uniform western culture. The French would say scornfully that I am pragmatic. They don’t expect British and American people to be equal to them.
In this case, I was simple enough to go straight to David’s text in the New Testament, Matthew 5.44 , indeed 5.43-44.
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you”. I thought it was Jesus himself who said that.
Exodus 23.4 doesn’t seem to be the scripture that Jesus was referring to and contradicting, as it says nothing about hating the enemy.
I don’t think it’s helpful to refer to somebody else’s god as a “demon”, any more than referring to his religious art as an “idol”. What about the Pope, and the statues of saints ? The Muslims and Jews find the idea that God had a son blasphemous. Incidentally, what about modern Jews praying to Jehovah? Is he a demon too ?
Let’s put it all slightly differenty. If Christians, Jews and Muslims all agree that the earth and the “heavens” were created by one god, wouldn’t that have to be the same god ? They couldn’t be believing in a demon who created the earth . Demons don’t do that.

You are quite wrong the god of Islam is not the God of the Bible. I could go into a long drawn out reason as to why. But I will just give one small but significant reason why I can say and know it to be true.
Written on the Mosque on the Temple Mount are these words. God has NO Son.

It is the spirit of Anti – Messiah. These are the words of YHWH ! Why don’t you tell Him he’s wrong.
I am of the opinion this includes the Jews as they also deny the Son and without the Son you do NOT have the Father.

However I do believe that the Father has His people in all places and we ought to praying that they will respond to
His voice and repent and surrender their hearts. In the book of Revelation YHWH is calling His people out Rev 18:4 and His people will hear and respond as time is so short for this world now.
We cannot hate we must love as He loves us.
My last point is that Isalam will not be destroyed until the King of Kings breaks through the heavens.
But I pray with all my heart that the people who commit these evils will see and know that they are standing
against the Most High and he will not be mocked.
And by the way Rox there is only one other god that is worshipped in this world and it is Satan. One true God YHWH the I am and one false his enemy Satan no in between.
And one other thing yes we can say their god is Satan we are told to judge between the evil and the good.
