In a landmark vote, Australian MPs have overwhelmingly rejected a bill which would have legalised ‘gay marriage’ reports Agence France Press.
The House of Representatives voted down the bill to legalise marriage between same sex couples by 98 to 42, with Labour Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition conservative leader Tony Abbott both voting against it.
Only 2 out of 30 Queensland MPs voted to change the definition of marriage, with many making powerful arguments against the innovation.
During the days of debate on the bill, one senator lost his parliamentary post after referring to sex with animals.
Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi asked what the next step would be if the government redefined marriage so that two people of the same sex could ‘marry’.
“The next step, quite frankly, is having three people or four people that love each other being able to enter into a permanent union endorsed by society,” he told the Senate.

“There are even some creepy people out there… (who) say it is okay to have consensual sexual relations between humans and animals. Will that be a future step?”
Former Liberal Party leader Malcolm Turnbull described Mr Bernardi’s comments as “hysterical, alarmist, offensive”.
The Liberal leader Tony Abbott said Mr Bernardi offered to resign his position as his parliamentary secretaryand he had accepted.
Mr Abbott is said to be a staunch Catholic and opinion polls suggest he could become prime minister when an election is held next year.
“I’ve known Cory for a long time. He’s a decent bloke with strong opinions,” said Mr Abbott, but he said his comments had been ill-judged.
“They are views that I don’t share,” Abbott told reporters. “They are views which I think many people will find repugnant.”
In the UK, Ulster Unionist peer Lord Maginnis resigned from the Ulster Unionist Party last month after similar remarks.
Australia does not permit gay marriage, though some states allow civil unions.
Gay rights activists called the decision a “slap on the face,” ABC News reported.
Astonishingly, in view of her vote against gay marriage, Aussie premier Julia Gillard is supporting an Australian bid to host the 2014 homosexual rugby world cup – if anyone can believe such an event actually takes place.
Almighty God appears to think there is a link between sodomy and bestiality, as the book of Leviticus states:
Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Lev 18:23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Update: The Australian Senate has followed suit a day later, voting 41 to 26 against redefining marriage.

Wonderful that Australians don’t appear intimidated by homosexual pressure groups and are prepared to speak their mInds. More of that here please! I am saddened however that those who made comments in biblical context have found it necessary to resign …
I received a standard reply to my letter to Nick Clegg and responded with the following:
Dear Mr. Simpson
Thank you for replying to my letter.
Unfortunately, you did not really reply to the issues therein.
Seeing you understand this matter is causing such division and such a furor, why persue it?
Historically, until the fateful day everyone votes on the issue, it was a good thing for a man to have good friends, chums.
Here is a definition taken from the web:
Best Friends are very special people in your life. They are the first people you think about when you make plans. They are the first people you go to when you need someone to talk to. You will phone them up just to talk about nothing, or the most important things in your life. When you’re sad they will try their hardest to cheer you up. They give the best hugs in the world! They are the shoulder to cry on, because you know that they truly care about you. In most cases they would take a bullet for you, coz it would be too painful to watch you get hurt.
Why do best friends want to get ‘married’ ? They don’t have the proper body parts for that and nothing can be produced from it. Marriage of man and woman was originally brought about to produce and nurture life – new human beings. Best friends can’t do that.
When you refuse to believe in a Creator who is manifest in all the order of creation – the sun, moon, stars and everything around you – read Ps.19 – then you become deviant – you support ‘other faiths’, you create a vacuum which is rapidly being filled by the lie of Muhammadism – you no longer support the British Culture. Those who died fighting for Britain in the last two world wars must be turning in their graves.

Praise God for the peoplie of Austrailian Parliment that voted against Gay Marraige.
We will be praying for the Two people who had to resign their post , because they believe in the truth,of GOD’S WORD.
I PRAY that people in our Goverment will read about it,and stand against what the enemy is trying to do.And take a leaf out of Austrailia example.
Just as the other person wrote We fought TWO world wars to keep our Christian status, and fight against evil People, We Know that in the end times there will be a falling from Christianity and man will become lovers of self.
We Pray that the LORD will hasten his return.
God Bless…………..Alick
Now lets pray that the Newspapers in UK will print this in full, and our MP’s will vote the same way and not by Party intimidation.
Nice one, Tom. The irony being that the Federal Opposition party in Australia denied its MPs a conscience vote and required them to toe the party line (dictated by their staunchly Catholic leader) of voting against marriage equality. This is despite many of the same MPs publicly supporting the change (e.g. Malcolm Turnbull).
So your prayer to avoid the evils of party intimidation is especially apposite
It isn’t ‘marriage equality’ – we have that already. Any man and woman can join together in marriage. It’s a redefinition of the foundation of marriage which will affect us all.
As it happens, MP’s in the UK House of Commons can easily be given a free vote by the Lib/Lab/Con party whips because the homosexual intimidation rife in all three parties will comfortably result in evil winning the day. Not so in Australia, thank God.
As we have so many Non-Godfearing MP’s in this country, I doubt if they will have the Will or courage to stand up to the Gay Community.
I’m pleased that Australia has made a stand against Gay Marriages, but wonder how long it will be before it is decided that it is against the Gay’s Civil Liberties??
Sadly, there is so little coming from the Church/ Clergy, which is not surprising, as many don’t know what the true Gospel is all about. As the wife of a Minister (deceased) I have met Clergy, who, when speaking to them about the Lord, the Word and what the Lord has done for me, have been rewarded with a Blank Stare. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.
At least God is still on the Throne, and He will remember His own – Praise Him!
In fairness, the Church of England and Archbishop Rowan Williams in particular have stood up robustly against ‘gay marriage’.
If so many MPs are Non-Godfearing, and generally in favour of the idea of homosexual marriage, then it will take courage to stand up for their beliefs against the Christian community, not against the Gay community. There are probably more Christian voters than Gay voters in their constituencies even now .
Far from being an overwhelming defeat for the cause of marriage equality, the Australian parliamentary vote gives considerable encouragement. Of the MPs allowed a conscience vote fully two-thirds voted in favour of the bill. If only a third of the conservative side had voted in its favour, in a free vote, then the measure would have passed. The only impediment now to marriage equality in Australia is a free vote.
Those figures don’t work. There are 72 Coalition MPs. If a third of those (that’s 24) switched sides, the figures would be 74 against to 66 in favour so redefining marriage would still be rejected. And there is no evidence that as many as 24 MPs would do so.
Romans 1 v 32 make it crystal clear that those who support homosexual perversion are under the wrath of God, they will face eternal punishment (if they don’t repent) just as the homosexuals themselves will.
It’s great to have such opinions here, but please pick up the phone and make an appointment to attend your MP’s surgery.
When I visited my MP on this subject 6 weeks ago, she was absolutely clear that she would not allow her own feelings to influence her one way or the other. She told me that she has two piles of correspondence, one for those in favour of ‘gay marriage’ and one against, and that those in favour had the lead at that moment.
If other MPs are like mine, it is absolutely essential that Christians, God-fearing folk and supporters of marriage being between a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others get along to their MP. As in the words of the marriage ceremony, ‘speak now or forever hold your peace’.
Readers in support of God’s word on the subject. Please, please, please. Get along and express your opinion to your MP.
Thanks.
Unfortunately it is possible that MPs in the UK might vote through such totally abhorrent legislation. My local MP Ann Clwyd is very unfortunately strongly pro-homosexual ‘unions’ being called ‘marrying or marriage’ a view that to me is heretical and extremely blasphemous, but as she has no Christian beliefs, she defiles Christianity without conscience. . . . .
To all those in Government or Opposition who act to destroy Christianity, who act against Christian teaching and act against God’s will as is made clear in the Bible;
I say ‘Get thee away from me Satan’, ‘Stay thee away from me Satan’ and ‘Never, ever thee cross my path again Satan’.
This Christian Voice website seems to devote an enormous slice of its output to homosexuality, far more than Jesus or St Paul did. We have become used to this, but I can’ t help wondering if it the subject is really so central to Christianity as all that.
I think you will find that it is gay activists who are making the most noise about homosexuality. In the Holy Land and the Roman world of the first century, neither the Lord not the Apostle Paul had to contend with people parading through the streets demanding state recognition of the sin of sodomy, as we have today.
Martin Luther: “If I profess with loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except that little point which the world and the Devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.”
