The Olympic closing ceremony has focussed attention on Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Outside the Olympics, the Muslim ‘Evil Olympics’ group tried to hold a demonstration. Whatever misgivings Christians had about the Games, we thank God they passed peacefully.
M. Rogge was on hand to award the medals for the Men’s Marathon in the last medal ceremony of the games.
No ‘One Minute of Silence’
The IOC refused to hold a minute’s silence to remember the 11 Israeli victims of the Munich massacre in 1972. Demands for such an observance came from the governments of Canada, Australia, USA, Germany, Italy and Israel, but not from that of the UK. In response, IOC officials attended a small ceremony on 6th August outside the games organised by the Israeli Embassy.
Suspicions have been raised of a pro-Palestinian bias in the IOC by a photograph published by Forbes magazine in November 2011. The caption below it read:
‘President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge pauses during a press conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. Rogge on Tuesday expressed concern over “obstacles” facing Palestinian athletes, and in veiled criticism of Israel said athletes should be granted free movement regardless of politics.’
There was in fact a Palestinian team at the London Olympics in 2012, as there has been in every Olympic Games since 1996. None of the five athletes progressed to the finals.
‘Evil Olympics’ is ‘Muslims against Crusades’ revisited
Meanwhile, outside the stadium, a planned demonstration against the ‘Evil Olympics’ by Islamists was called off when police refused it a static license.
The new group has put up a website, http://evilolympics.com/index.php#, on which they complain that nations taking part are ‘oppressing Muslims’. In reality, the new group is merely the banned ‘Muslims against the Crusades’ under a new name. SMS messages were sent out from a number associated with Anjem Choudary, who describes himself as Chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers, Judge at the Shari’ah Court of the UK and Former UK Head of Al-Muhajiroun.
‘Evil Olympics’ singles out four countries for particularly oppressing Muslims.
The first is Israel, so that is no surprise, accused of being where the mainly-Sunni Muslim Palestinians want to be. The second is China, which dislikes any religion, and is mounting a Ramadan clampdown on the Uighur Sunni Muslims in the northwestern region of Xinjiang. The third country is Burma, where the Buddhist regime has closed mosques attended by the Sunni Muslim Rohingya people in Arakan.
Interestingly, the fourth country accused by ‘Evil Olympics’ of oppressing Muslims is Syria. Syria is usually thought of as a Muslim state. However, In Syria, the Alawite Shia minority, led by President Assad, is fighting for its life against Sunni Muslim rebels, as we have reported before. (see links below)
The Sunni / Shia divide
It is curious that in all four countries accused of oppressing Muslims, it is Sunni Muslims whom ‘Evil Olympics’ support. It can be argued that Sunnis form the majority of Muslims in the UK and worldwide, and we shall come to that. But ‘Evil Olympics’ taking sides in Syria makes sense when we realise that Anjem Choudary has been identified as a Sunni Muslim. Al-Muhajiroun, of which Anjem Choudary was the UK head and Sheik Omar Bakri the spiritual leader, is said by US intelligence to be a Sunni Muslim group. Al Quaeda is Sunni Muslim, as is its birthplace of Saudi Arabia, which is why they are supporting the Syrian rebels rather than President Assad.
‘Evil Olympics’ also castigate the USA and UK for their actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Christian Voice has consistently opposed British involvement in both countries. But Afghanistan has a Sunni Muslim majority, whilst the deposed Saddam Hussein was a Sunni Muslim in a majority Shia nation. The terrorist group Hezbollah, prominent in Lebanon and supported by Syria and Iran, is Shia Muslim. Iran is 93% Shia, Azerbaijan 75%, Iraq 63% and Bahrain 61%. Yemen is 47% Shia and Lebanon 41% Shia. All other Muslim countries have greater Sunni majorities.
Worldwide, Muslims split into an estimated 90% Sunni and 10% Shia. Most Muslims in Britain (around 95%) are Sunni Muslim. See this pro-Muslim link: http://guide.muslimsinbritain.org/guide3.html
Finally, we thank God there was no terrorist incident at the Games. That can mean the conspiracy theorists were wrong or that it was only averted because of the noise they made, according to one’s point of view.

Re. Olympics I was disgusted to see female boxing at games, male boxing is bad enough. It was interesting to note the prominence this was given by the liberal media-another victory for militant feminism.
I was disturbed to see that atheists and blasphemers were given prime spots at the closing concert: we had the atheist John Lennon singing his atheist anthem”Imagine”, the sodomite George Michael, the blasphemer Russell Brand, and finally, so that you couldn’t miss the point, the militant secularist and member of the National Secular Society Eric Idle, giving a rendition of “Always look on the bright side of life”, the veiled mockery of christ on the cross, complete with nuns and dancing Roman soldiers, in case you still didn’t get the point. What a shameless revelation of liberal Britain, which can not refrain from disgracing itself even at something as innocuous as athletics games.
For those who may not be up to speed with Rafael’s Eric Idle point, the song is sung in the Monty Python ‘Life of Brian’ when Brian is crucified at the end of the film. On its own, the song is innocuous. It was Idle singing it in the presence of women dressed as nuns and men dressed as Roman soldiers that laboured the anti-Christian point.
I do not entirely share our brother’s misgivings over boxing, but it was interesting that on the same day GB gained gold medals in women punching each other, women kicking each other – and dancing horses.
Warming to the subject, contrast the boxing coverage with that for weightlifting (where GB is not so good) and the politically-incorrect pistol shooting.
And of course gender equality only goes so far. In the shooting, for example, there is no women’s double trap, no women’s rapid-fire pistol and no women’s 50m prone rifle, while the men’s 50m pistol is replaced by a 25m event for the weaker sex. Odd but true: http://www.london2012.com/shooting/schedule-and-results/
Dear Rafael,
like you I believe in men’s sports for men, women’s sports for women, so could not watch the female boxing or judo for that matter. Far less the ‘Life of Brian’ song – blasphemy if ever there was. Were that it were still illegal!.
Perhap it was political and a triumph for militant feminism that these female sports happened at all.
Hi Stephen, all your points are worthy of note but Britain is not a Christian nation anymore. Our state church leader is resigning because he doesn’t like the direction the church is heading. The Roman Catolic religion is far from being christian and most of the general public are anything but Christan. I have been out of such religious groups for many years. Therefore I don’t worry to much what they do. My bible tels me that there will be a great falling away and that the road to heaven is hardly noticed as it contains so few. I am one of those few and will stand for Jesus Christ no matter what the general populace do. Only 500 years ago people used to gather around the fires on which such as you and me were burned. We shall be ridiculed and shunned as the last days proceed. Muslims aim to take over this Country. We may even suffer the same fate as our brothers all those years ago. The division in the muslim family is slowing down their progress just as the Protestant and Roman faiths did here years ago., I thank the Lord for that. We always knew that the way would be hard, thats what ‘Pilgrims progress’ spelled out. Stephen our job is to proclaim the true faith whereever we go, The Lord will do the rest, he knows his elect and not one will be lost. Praise the Lord for ever. God bless and keep you and your family. Love in the name of Jesus from Dave.
Thanks for that. The elite – those who run things – may not be Christian, but the Monarch, the Constitution and the majority of the people are. The trouble is that the elite are leading the people into sin. There is a great need for the true church to follow the scriptural imperative to pray for our leaders and stand up in prophetic witness. Our prayer is that we empower the people of God to do just that by the information we provide.
Stephen, do you really think that “the majority of the people” in Britain are Christian or was that simply a lapsus calami?
I ask only because that’s really not my experience at all — quite the opposite. It might once have been true that most people in Britain were Christian (or at least church-goers, or people who acknowledged the authority of The Bible), but most people with whom one speaks nowadays do not identify themselves as even nominally Christian and have little interest in Scripture (as I’m sure you must have found from your own witness). Scripture tells us that genuine Christians will hear the Word gladly and will have a love of the brethren: my experience is that people’s eyes generally glaze over at hearing Scripture and that “love” is probably not the most fitting word for the general public’s feelings towards us. Of course, it may simply be that the areas in which you’ve lived have been more Christian than those in which I’ve lived. Forgive me if I’ve misinterpreted what you were saying…
At the last UK census (2001) 72% of respondents claimed to be Christian.
…But surely you realise that this is largely meaningless (it brings to mind Mark Twain’s favourite quip about statistics). Most people if vox-popped typically self-identify as basically good (false modesty aside), or believe that they are right with God. …And define ‘Christian’! 100% of Roman Catholics would claim to be Christian! Even Mormons are now claiming that being LDS is just another form of Christianity.
One has only to look at how people live in Britain to realise that 72% of Britons are not believers. …Oh that they were!
I’m all for being hopeful, but we should not kid ourselves that most people in Britain are Christians.
It’s a fallen world, Paul. People sin. Even believers, so I’ve heard. It remains that in 2001 72% ticked the box that said ‘Christian’ and that we have a Christian constitution.
Nice try, Steve, but the last census was in 2011 and 54% of respondents identified themselves as non-religious. But you just keep on making it up in the name of your made up god
Simone, your first sentence would have validity if the results of the 2011 Census had actually been published and had said that 54% of Britons were non-religious. Since, as the ONS website makes clear, the statistics on religious identity will only be released between November 2012 and February 2013, you are talking nonsense – or to use your own phrase, ‘making it up’. See (right-click and open in a new tab or window): http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/census/2011/census-data/2011-census-prospectus/release-plans-for-2011-census-statistics/index.html Moral 1: You can believe what Christian Voice puts out, as we check our facts. Moral 2: Never trust an atheist!
You’re absolutely right, Steve: the census figures on religion are embargoed until later this year.
But I should have thought you’d be aware of the pre-emptive census on religion in British life run by YouGov and Cambridge University for British Religion in Numbers.
The results, from fieldwork running from mid-April to mid-May 2011, polled a sample of 64,303 adult Britons .
The data (which can be viewed here), shows a society in which religion is increasingly in retreat and nominal. With the principal exception of the older age groups, many of those who claim some religious allegiance fail to underpin it by a belief in God or to translate it into regular prayer or attendance at a place of worship. People in general are more inclined to see the negative than the positive aspects of religion, and they certainly want to keep it well out of the political arena.
40% of adults professed no religion, 55% were Christian and 5% of other faiths – age made a major difference, with only 38% of the 18-34s being Christian and 53% having no religion, whereas for the over-55s the figures were 70% and 26% respectively
35% described themselves as very or fairly religious and 63% as not very or not at all religious.
11% of respondents claimed to attend a religious service once a month or more, 27% less often, and 59% never.
16% claimed to pray daily, 12% several times a week, 4% once a week, 7% several times a month, 4% once a month, 24% less often, and 29% never.
79% agreed and 11% disagreed that religion is a cause of much misery and conflict in the world today
72% agreed and 15% disagreed that religion is used as an excuse for bigotry and intolerance.
35% agreed and 45% disagreed that religion is a force for good in the world.
78% agreed and 12% disagreed that religion should be a private matter and had no place in politics
16% agreed and 70% disagreed that Christians and the Church should have more influence over politics in the country.
61% agreed and 18% disagreed that organized religion is in terminal decline in the UK.
No doubt you’d maintain this is all some athiest homosexual plot.
But does these figures suggest the UK is a Christian country.
Let’s see if you publish this one, Steve, o prince of integrity and honesty that you are.
Even that did not support your statement that ‘54% of respondents identified themselves as non-religious’ and although you stubbornly claim it is a ‘census’ it is actually merely an opinion poll. The word ‘religion’ is poorly defined and includes murderous systems like Islam and Buddhism, so what do you expect? The actual 2011 census just asked one question: ’20: What is your religion?’ and we shall not know the national answer to that for several months.
There was also quite a lot of Masonic/illuminati influence. Plenty of symbols to choose from!
The trapezoid shaped table in the Olympic Park studio.
The triangular shaped spotlights (the top of which were never let EXCEPT on the opening and closing ceremonies) reminiscent of the all seeing eye on top of the pyramid.
Pyramids and ziggurats featured in both the opening and closing ceremonies.
It was as if a New World order was being announced – NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM (Latin for NEW SECULAR WORLD ORDER)
Welcome to 21st Century where Britain embraces all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions and non-believers. The closing ceremony showcased that and rightly so. I saw people with crosses round their necks and athletes praying and crossing themselves before competing and that didn’t offend me. I respect their beliefs regardless of whether I agree with them. In my opinion, religion is outdated, oppressive (see earlier posts) and overall has a net negative impact on society. We don’t need religion to abide by a moral or legal code, and believing in God/Jesus/Allah etc above the theories of evolution strikes me as absurd. Maybe I’m wrong and I’ll go to hell, but I firmly believe that (in the improbable situation that) if there is a fair and just God, he (or she) will judge me on the way I have lived my life and the tolerance and kindness I have shown others… not on the number of times I’ve gone to temple/church/synagogue or whether i’ve doubted his (or her) existence.
There are more brands of Islam than Sunni and Shia and the Alawites, who run Syria are one of them. The Iranian Shia hate the Alawites probably more than they do the Sunni but find common cause for the moment. The Sunni hate the Alawites more than they hate the Shia who do not see a need to pray much if at all, let alone 5 times a day, drink alcohol and believe that Mohammed’s son in law is part of a divine trinity!. All very complicated.
Even the majority Sunni Muslims are divided. In UK the highest percentage are Bareilwi/Ahl-i-Sunnah, less are Deobandi/Ahl-i-Hadith, less are Salafi, a vocal few belong to radical groups like Anjem Choudary’s. Many of these would express doubts about other groups being real Muslims. Any Muslims who express a desire to take over the country want it to be their own ‘real’ Muslim group that does so.
Hello Dave H.
I find myself in agreement with most of what you say. I was a long time member of the RC Church until I began to see the error in the teaching. Now my single allegience is to my Lord and Savour Jesus Christ.
and to the teaching of Holy Scripture. Something which will never change . I believe that I am standing on the Rock of my Christian Faith and the fullness of peace which my Faith gives me.
Patrick
It’s very nice actually to see christian Americans agreeing that Britain is not a christian nation, and the same could be said of France and even Italy amongst several others in Europe.
In the past, I have remarked to an American christian that “Most people in England do not take the Book of Revelation at all seriously, and this has been true for many years”. He refuses to accept this, mainly on the grounds that I have not done any kind of large formal survey, but I can only give my opinion based on my observations. However, it’s true, isn’t it ? American ideas on Revelation strike most of the world as very strange indeed. I suppose the rest of the world is wicked and ignorant. We don’t know so much about shooting either . What is double trap ?
Hi all, I am glad that at least two of the group here agreed with me concerning the general populace of this Country not being at all Christian. I have walked in many walks of life during my seventy odd years on this earth and believe that the road to heaven will indeed be narrow. It is only through God’s grace and the crucifiction of our Lord Jesus that I fit into that catergory and certainly not for my own achievements. I praise and thank the Lord Jesus for saving me; in Him only do I stand. Dave H.
Patric, thanks for your comments, my views often upset people because I speak as I feel, not to please other people. I have friends who have left the Catholic Church after I spoken to them. I once had a Catholic priest visit me because I had discussed the bible with some of his people. I invited him in but told him plainly about their false faith. You said that you agreed with most of my views, I would like to know what you didn’t agree with.
To you Rox I agree with you that most people who claim to be Christians think that it is too explicit and tend to think is over the top. However I find everything is exactly true and that it isn’t that far in the future either. Good to know you Rox and may the Lord bless you. Dave H.
The world is coming against Israel, thank you for exposing Rogge. Al BBC is so anti Israel that it works on bias and propaganda whilst omitting facts and critical thinking. Of course the persecution of Christians in Islamic nations is ignored frequently. The opening ceremony I found deplorable because of the left bias, use of Harry Potter etc. I have not watched the closing ceremony as I am sure it would be even worse. This country has forsaken the Living God. I fear we are living in difficult times as judgement is upon Britain, Europe and America because of our rejection of God, our kowtowing to Islam due to our dependence on black liquid gold, our promoting of all things vile and against God. I am a mature student who is embarking on final year history at a Uni in England and was shocked that a full year module on witchcraft did not require an exam to be taken, the module was popular, however I steered clear and chose modules more informative even if I had to do exams. The Lord honoured my choices. Would not have touched the witchcraft module if offered a million pounds to do so. The other reason we are being judged I believe is our stand against Israel. The Promised Land is God’s Land and I believe those who oppose the Jews claims are opposing God Almighty. Scripture is clear that those who bless Isreal will be blessed and those who curse will be cursed. No wonder we and Europe are in the mess. We have rejected God and are opposing His people Israel. Dangerous territory really and even though the world mocks and scorns I await my call home or His return.
HI Charlene, I have just read your blogg. I found it very interesting and I agreee with your views. You were right saying that Briain is under judgement, first reason in my mind is our forsaking the death penalty fo murder.
We only follow the trend of most of Europe and others but we are never the less under judgement since the bible states that anyone who doesn’t follow or keep that commandment is under judgemant. Also This world is certainly ripe for destruction as revelation tells us. I am trusting the Lord that believers will be be removed soon and then the end will follow within a few years. This is not as some may say a cowards way but it is stated in the bible clearly enough. Also I agree absolutly regarding the anti Israel statement because I find so many who are very anti towards God’s chosen people. The bible says the Lord will bless those who bless Israel. I am regular contact with Israel and am following very closely the coming problems they face. However the Lord will bring about His plans regardless of the worlds ideas, Praise His Name forever. All blessings from Dave H.
Charlene,
‘The nation that shall not serve you shall utterly perish’ God’s message to Israel, found In Isaiah Ch 60, verse 12). This has happened many times in world history: the Assyrian Empire, Babylonian Empire, the Empire of the Medes & Persians followed by the Roman & Greek Empires. As a result of Great Britain & the Empire (though it helped spread Christianity throughout roughly a third of the world) not standing up for the Jews during and after WWII, ie by restricting the number of Jews entering the then-mandate Palestine while opening the door to Arab settlers, we complicited in the Holocaust – it pains me to say. I am proud to belong to the Zionist Federation besides Christian Friends of Israel.
re Rogge honouring ‘Palestinians’ article
a) the NWO had their fingerprints ALL over both ceremonies, that much is clear! ( they basically served to encapsulate just about every worldly ‘thing’ that Christians are told not to love that you can imagine! In that case, render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and all that ….ignore it, and just enjoy the sport, instead (meaning: run the good race – or do it vicariously, at least ! )
b) Rogge + BBC : anyone who has no qualms about calling any part of God’s Land Palestine (totally unbiblical), or arabs living there Palestinians (not in accordance with Scripture), or refuses to say that Jerusalem is the declared capital of the Jewish people who currently reside in the UN-recognised state of Israel….er, basically, they CANNOT possibly be called true Christians, can they. So typically British & hypocritical to even attempt to argue the toss on this one! (ans so is it a wonder the yanks love to refer to us as those ‘phoney’ old Brits!). That person might call himself a Christian, however I’m pretty sure God wouldn’t !
