Many are also an &#8216;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.secularism.org.uk\/honoraryassociates.html\" target=\"_blank\">Honorary Associate<\/a><\/strong>&#8216; of the National Secular Society (NSS), and a couple are involved with the so-called <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rationalist.org.uk\/governance\" target=\"_blank\">Rationalist Association<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nowhere in their <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/comment\/letters\/10777417\/David-Cameron-fosters-division-by-calling-Britain-a-Christian-country.html\" target=\"_blank\">letter to the Daily Telegraph<\/a><\/strong> do they acknowledge that they are all BHA supporters or that the letter was organised by the BHA. \u00a0The BHA <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/humanism.org.uk\/2014\/04\/20\/nobel-laureates-campaigners-peers-philosophers-broadcasters-authors-write-open-letter-challenge-prime-ministers-christian-country-claim\/\" target=\"_blank\">admit on their website<\/a><\/strong> that their president organised it, but do not disclose that every signatory was already in their go-to bag, merely describing them as &#8216;public figures&#8217;. \u00a0Even more worrying, no mainstream media picked up on that fact either.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Telegraph described the signatories as &#8217;55 public figures from a range of political backgrounds&#8217;. Er, no, they aren&#8217;t. \u00a0They are all atheists. \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2014\/apr\/21\/david-cameron-christianity-fostering-division\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a><\/strong> sycophantically referred to them as &#8216;more than 50 prominent public figures including novelists, diplomats, Nobel prize winners and playwrights.&#8217; \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/david-cameron-fostering-alienation-and-division-by-calling-britain-a-christian-country-9272961.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Independent<\/a><\/strong> described them as &#8216;an alliance of public figures\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333;\">including scientists, novelists and politicians.<\/span>&#8216; \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-27099700\" target=\"_blank\">The BBC<\/a><\/strong> described them as &#8216;a group of public figures&#8217; rather than the more accurate: &#8216;a group of atheist time-servers\u00a0taking themselves too seriously.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Why was that? Plainly the omission of any reference to the British Humanist Association and the corresponding ability of the organisation to drum up so many distinguished-sounding names so quickly while keeping itself in the background gave the letter its only possible credibility.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the signatories (BHA supporters Sir Jonathan Miller and Richard Dawkins and a few others have since added their names):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Jim Al-Khalil<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter and President, \u00a0Theoretical physicist, Professor of public engagement in science at the University of Surrey, author and broadcaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philip Pullman<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter,\u00a0 NSS Honorary Associate, atheist, author from Norwich, author of the trilogy <em>His Dark Materials<\/em>. \u00a0O<span style=\"color: #222222;\">nce said, &#8216;I&#8217;m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tim Minchin<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Australian musician, composer, songwriter, actor, comedian.\u00a0 Appeared in various TV shows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Simon Singh<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Science Writer, TV Director and Producer for BBC, lecturer, <span style=\"color: #222222;\">honorary associate of the Rationalist Association<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ken Follett<\/strong>: BHA Honorary Member and BHA Distinguished Supporter.\u00a0 Parents are born-again Christians but rejected Christianity himself after becoming disillusioned.\u00a0 Writer and journalist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Adam Rutherford<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Science writer, editor, broadcaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sir John Sulston<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Scientist, Nobel Prize winner, scientist father was an Anglican priest, brought up a Christian but lost faith as a teenager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sir David Smith<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Botanist, lecturer, campaigned against expansion of religious maintained schools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Jonathan Glover<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, philosopher, writer of books on ethics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Anthony Grayling<\/strong>: BHA Vice President and Distinguished Supporter, NSS Honorary Associate, Master of New College of the Humanities, writer, philosopher, campaigns for euthanasia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nick Ross<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, Journalist, TV Presenter known for presenting Crimewatch, Chair of Jill Dando Institute for Crime Science, Chair of Crimewatch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virginia Ironside<\/strong>: \u00a0BHA Distinguished Supporter, NSS Honorary Associate, Abortionist, writer, past agony aunt for the Daily Mirror but now writes a column for the Oldie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Steven Rose<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, scientist, writer, born to Jewish parents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natalie Haynes<\/strong>: BHA Distinguished Supporter, comedienne, writer, human rights supporter.
