\"Nigel-Farage\"<\/a>The present government has betrayed the family and suppressed our Christian heritage, announced Nigel Farage this week.<\/p>\n

The MEP, who represents the UK Independence Party, expressed concern that fear of causing offense has resulted in \u201cNotting Hill claptrap about diversity\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need a much more muscular defence of our Judaeo-Christian heritage\u201d added Mr Farage. \u201cYes, we\u2019re open to different cultures but we have to defend our values.”<\/p>\n

His comments were made in an interview<\/strong><\/a> with the largely unsympathetic Telegraph<\/em> journalist Cristina Odone. During the interview Mr Farage criticized the present government for their \u201cbetrayal\u201d of the family, adding \u201cThis has been the most anti-family government we have ever seen. The very fact that they pushed for gay marriage, and thought that it was important at a time when not even Stonewall was campaigning for it, shows you their twisted sense of priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UKIP leader also criticized the type of \u2018equality\u2019 that takes cultural tolerance so far that it turns a blind eye on horrific practices such as female genital mutilation. \u201cWe go on about equality but under our noses, female genital mutilation has been going on in this country. Tens of thousands of women a year, but is anyone talking about it? It\u2019s brushed under the carpet.\u201d<\/p>\n
