A leading Christian lobby group has scorned the claim by Dr Howard Martin that he was exercising ‘Christian compassion’ when he administered lethal injections to hasten the death of patients.<\/p>\n

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said:<\/p>\n

‘Dr Martin was not exercising any form of compassion when he autocratically decided some of his patients were better off dead. Human life is not to be reckoned alongside that of a dog which we might ‘put down’. Such arrogance was taking upon himself the role of the Almighty, who alone should decide the time of our death. Dr Martin came to the point where he thought he could play God, and he has rightly been struck off the medical register with damning comments from the GMC panel.<\/p>\n

‘As to falsely telling the family of Harry Gittins that his cancer had spread when he held no evidence that it had, well, if lying to a patient’s family is Christian compassion, the Ninth Commandment needs to be re-written.<\/p>\n

‘I now call upon the police to re-open the case of murder against Dr Martin for the death of Harry Gittins and bring this arrogant and self-deluded old man, a disgrace to both his profession and to the Christian faith, to justice.’<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
