{"id":4421,"date":"2012-10-03T15:46:45","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T14:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/?p=4421"},"modified":"2012-10-27T13:49:22","modified_gmt":"2012-10-27T12:49:22","slug":"banks-support-stonewall-bigot-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/index.php\/banks-support-stonewall-bigot-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Banks support Stonewall &#8216;Bigot&#8217; dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4428\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4428\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BarclaysJenkins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4428\" title=\"BarclaysJenkins\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BarclaysJenkins-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BarclaysJenkins-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BarclaysJenkins-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/BarclaysJenkins.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4428\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Antony Jenkins, Chief Executive of Barclays, is giving cash to Stonewall as they call their opponents &#8216;bigots&#8217;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two banks and a leading firm of accountants are sponsoring a homosexual group as it goes about its annual name-calling exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Barclays Bank, Coutts Bank and Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) are named as sponsors of Stonewall, the &#8216;gay rights&#8217; lobby group, <strong><a title=\"Stonewall Awards Dinner 2012 Events Page - all links open automatically in a new window.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stonewall.org.uk\/what_you_can_do\/events\/2595.asp\" target=\"_blank\">on an advertisement for this year&#8217;s awards dinner<\/a><\/strong>, which includes an award for &#8216;Bigot of the Year&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The homosexual group\u2019s awards dinner takes place at the Victoria and Albert Museum on Thursday 1st November 2012 and is likely to be the focus of a street witness.<\/p>\n<p>The awards are mainly to applaud people who have advanced the homosexual cause in some way, and are being sponsored by major firms.\u00a0 <strong><a title=\"Report from Square Peg Media\" href=\"http:\/\/www.squarepegmedia.com\/site\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=62:sarah-garrett-shortlisted-for-stonewall-award&amp;catid=1:latest-news&amp;Itemid=50\" target=\"_blank\">Barclays Bank are sponsoring the &#8216;sports award&#8217;, Coutts Bank are funding &#8216;writer of the year&#8217; and PWC are sponsoring &#8216;hero of the year&#8217;<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4430\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4430\" style=\"width: 221px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/EarlofHome.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4430 \" title=\"EarlofHome\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/EarlofHome.bmp\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Earl of Home, Chairman of Coutts, which is sponsoring the Stonewall awards<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But Stonewall are not satisfied with congratulating those who have advanced their cause.\u00a0 They have to insult their opponents.<\/p>\n<p>So among the awards is an anti-award called \u2018Bigot of the Year\u2019 intended to insult and vilify people particularly opposed to the gay rights agenda. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stonewall.org.uk\/media\/current_releases\/8053.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Those shortlisted this year<\/a><\/strong> are Christian politician Alan Craig, the Ugandan Ethics and Integrity Minister, Simon Lokodo, Lord Maginnis, Cardinal Keith O\u2019Brien and Archbishop Philip Tartaglia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Stonewall insult their opponents - Christian Voice page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/?page_id=2862\" target=\"_blank\">Previous &#8216;nominees&#8217; and &#8216;winners&#8217; have included <\/a><\/strong>the Bishop of Hereford, Rt Rev Anthony Priddis, Northern Ireland politician Iris Robinson, journalist Jan Moir, Chris Grayling MP, the Earl of Devon, Lillian Ladele, Frederick Forsyth, A.A. Gill of The Sunday Times, Rt Rev Arthur Roche, hotelier Susanne Wilkinson, Melanie Phillips, Scottish entrepreneur Sir Brian Souter, Bill Walker, MSP and Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Alan Craig said: \u201cThe Bigot of the Year Award is a vicious name-calling Stonewall annual event that reflects more on the donor than the recipient.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4432\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4432\" style=\"width: 229px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/PowellPWC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4432\" title=\"PowellPWC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/PowellPWC-229x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/PowellPWC-229x300.jpg 229w, https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/PowellPWC.jpg 306w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4432\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Philip Powell is Chairman and Senior Partner of Price Waterhouse Coopers, sponsors of the Stonewall awards.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBy attempting to bully, intimidate, humiliate and generate hatred of individuals through the award, Stonewall fully justifies the Gaystapo tag which I gave the organisation and for which apparently I have been nominated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Craig continued: \u201cNonetheless if I win the award over the other candidates and if Stonewall invite me, and permit me without harassment to offer a proper acceptance speech, I plan to attend their awards dinner and ceremony\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Alan Craig&#8217;s gauntlet is unlikely to be taken up.\u00a0 In previous years Stonewall have never found the courtesy or the courage to invite to their dinner any of those shortlisted for \u2018Bigot of the Year\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Green added: &#8216;Bullies never like it when someone stands up to them.\u00a0 Or perhaps social intercourse is just not one of Stonewall&#8217;s strong points.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Nationwide Building Socety gave \u00a360,000 to Stonewall for the dinner (which did not stop the greedy lobby group from charging \u00a3180 a ticket) and they gave \u00a35,000 as a prize to the \u2018Community Group of the Year\u2019.\u00a0 Nationwide have pulled out of sponsoring any more Stonewall events following adverse publicity.<\/p>\n<p>In an email, Mark McLane, Barclays Director of Global Diversity and Inclusion, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;As part of what is a positive longstanding relationship with Stonewall we were approached to see if we would be willing to sponsor a category for the 2012 Awards, which we agreed to do \u2013 the Sports Personality of the Year \u2013 on the understanding that the awards are a celebration of diversity and positive impact in our communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I have recently been made aware of the inclusion of a \u2018Bigot of the Year\u2019 category in the awards. Let me be absolutely clear that Barclays does not support that award category either financially, or in principle and have informed Stonewall that should they decide to continue with this category we will not support this event in the future.
