Rogge was on hand to award the medals for the Men&#8217;s Marathon in the last medal ceremony of the games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No &#8216;One Minute of Silence&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Wikipedia on the One Minute of Silence Campaign - opens in a new window\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_Olympics_one_minute_of_silence_campaign\" target=\"_blank\">The IOC refused to hold a minute&#8217;s silence to remember the 11 Israeli victims of the Munich massacre in 1972<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Demands for such an observance came from the governments of Canada, Australia, USA, Germany, Italy and Israel,\u00a0 but not from that of the UK.\u00a0 In response, IOC officials attended a small ceremony\u00a0on 6th August outside the games organised by the Israeli Embassy.<\/p>\n<p>Suspicions have been raised of a pro-Palestinian bias in the IOC by a photograph published by Forbes magazine in November 2011. The caption below it read:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge pauses during a press conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. Rogge on Tuesday expressed concern over \u201cobstacles\u201d facing Palestinian athletes, and in veiled criticism of Israel said athletes should be granted free movement regardless of politics.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Al Arabiya reports on Palestinian Olympic Team - all links open in a new window\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alarabiya.net\/articles\/2012\/06\/12\/220180.html\" target=\"_blank\">There was in fact a Palestinian team at the London Olympics in 2012<\/a><\/strong>, as there has been in every Olympic Games since 1996.\u00a0 None of the five athletes progressed to the finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Evil Olympics&#8217; is &#8216;Muslims against Crusades&#8217; revisited<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, outside the stadium, a planned demonstration\u00a0against the &#8216;Evil Olympics&#8217; by Islamists was called off when police refused it a static license.<\/p>\n<p>The new group has put up a website, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/evilolympics.com\/index.php\">http:\/\/evilolympics.com\/index.php<\/a>#<\/strong>,\u00a0on which they complain that nations taking part are &#8216;oppressing Muslims&#8217;.\u00a0 In reality, the new group is merely the banned &#8216;Muslims against the Crusades&#8217; under a new name.\u00a0 SMS messages were sent out from a number associated with <strong><a title=\"Izharudeen Press Release on Poppy-burning\" href=\"http:\/\/www.izharudeen.com\/poppy-press-release.html\" target=\"_blank\">Anjem Choudary, who describes himself<\/a><\/strong> as Chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers, Judge at the Shari\u2019ah Court of the UK and Former UK Head of Al-Muhajiroun.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Evil Olympics&#8217; singles out four countries for particularly oppressing Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>The first is Israel, so that is no surprise, accused of being where the <strong><a title=\"New Statesman on Sunni-Shia conflict\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/world-affairs\/2007\/02\/sunni-shia-iraq-iran-arab\" target=\"_blank\">mainly-Sunni Muslim Palestinians<\/a><\/strong> want to be. The second is China, which dislikes any religion, and is mounting a Ramadan clampdown on the Uighur Sunni Muslims in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.\u00a0 The third country is Burma, where the Buddhist regime has closed mosques attended by the Sunni Muslim Rohingya people in Arakan.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the fourth country accused\u00a0by &#8216;Evil Olympics&#8217; of oppressing Muslims is Syria.\u00a0 Syria is usually thought of as a Muslim state.\u00a0 However, In Syria, the Alawite Shia minority, led by President Assad, is fighting for its life against Sunni Muslim rebels, as we have reported before.
