Six chapters later, and God has sent two angels to check the place out. Abraham&#8217;s cousin Lot took them under his roof. Later that night, all the men of Sodom surrounded the house:<\/p>\n<p><b>Gen 19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Gen 19:6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Gen 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>So we move onto verse thirteen, and the angels have made up their mind.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gen 19:13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Gen 19:24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Just what was the sin of Sodom?<\/h2>\n<p>So, what was the sin of Sodom? The name of the city has given us the word &#8216;sodomy&#8217;, but is that being unfair to the, er, Sodomites? Were they instead breaching some ancient rule of hospitality? That&#8217;s a bit vague. Or their attempted violation of Lot&#8217;s house? So Sodom gets destroyed for lack of hospitality or house-breaking? Hmmm. Not sure I buy that.<\/p>\n<p>There is definitely something sexual going on. The word &#8216;know&#8217; and &#8216;known&#8217; used in the text is the Hebrew word &#8216;y\u00e2d\u00e2&#8217; which <i>can<\/i> mean just &#8216;know&#8217; or be &#8216;acquainted with&#8217; but here has its obvious sexual meaning.<\/p>\n<p>So was it not sodomy as such but gang-rape that was their sin? No, because Lot offered them his daughters. Heterosexual gang-rape actually seemed to that righteous man a lesser sin than the one proposed. That tells us a lot about Bible culture, and a fair bit about ours.<\/p>\n<h2>What else does scripture say?<\/h2>\n<p>Scripture informs scripture, so let&#8217;s see what the Prophet Ezekiel told sinful Judah about the sin of Sodom:<\/p>\n<p><b>Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Abomination? Pride? Would that be &#8216;gay pride&#8217;? Injustice? Would that involve passing pro-homosexual laws? In the New Testament, Jude wrote:<\/p>\n<p><b>Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Fornication\u2019 and \u2018going after strange flesh\u2019. Friends, that&#8217;s sodomy in particular and homosexual acts in general. \u2018Unnatural lust\u2019 as the Revised Standard Version translates it.<\/p>\n<h2>We must tell our leaders to repent<\/h2>\n<p>Scripture is clear. Sodom and Gomorrha were destroyed for accepting and promoting homosexual activity with injustice, pride, gluttony, and wholesale rebellion against the laws of God tagging along in its wake. In which case, there are a good many cities in the wealthy, rebellious west which should be looking over their shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>Make no mistake, the judgment is coming if not already here.
