Christian Voice Ripon Horn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Christian Voice is to have a new logo. Our current logo, featuring the \u2018Ripon Horn\u2019, dates from when we started in 1994, thirty-one years ago.<\/p>\n

The Ripon horn symbolises God\u2019s protection. It is still blown every night at 9 pm to \u2018set the watch\u2019 over the North Yorkshire city. The tradition is believed to have originated when King Alfred the Great granted Ripon a Royal Charter and a horn in 886AD. This led to the appointment of a watchman, or wakeman, to patrol the settlement during the hours of darkness.<\/p>\n

It also led to the Ripon motto, \u2018Except the Lord Keep the Cittie the Wakeman Waketh in Vain,\u2019 which you will recognise as a quote from Psalm 127:1:<\/p>\n

Psalm 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.<\/b> (KJV)<\/p>\n

Prayer for protection<\/h2>\n

We still pray that for our cities and our United Kingdom. That prayer was especially to the fore just over twenty years ago. We prayed for the Lord to protect our land in the aftermath of the 7\/7 London bombings. Precisely two weeks later the Lord himself showed his power by bringing the devices of a further group of Islamic terrorists to naught.<\/p>\n

Indeed, I made a video in 2016 outside the Maalbeek metro station in Brussels just after a terrorist attack on that city\u2019s underground network. I explained how our security servivces need our prayers for God\u2019s blessing. Take a look:<\/p>\n
