The mother of a 22-year-old Just Stop Oil activist who was sentenced to four years in prison has lamented that her daughter will miss her brother\u2019s wedding while incarcerated, The Telegraph reports.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Cressida Gethin, 22, received the sentence alongside Roger Hallam, the co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, and three other activists following a disruptive Just Stop Oil campaign on the M25 in November 2022.<\/p>\n

Hallam, 58, was found guilty of conspiring to block traffic and received a record five-year prison sentence. The judge ruled that he had ‘crossed the line from concerned campaigner to fanatic.’<\/p>\n

Last week, Gethin and the other activists\u2014Lucia Whittaker De Abreu, 34, Daniel Shaw, 38, and Louise Lancaster, 58\u2014were each sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of conspiring to block traffic on the M25.<\/p>\n

Cathy Gethin, the mother of Cressida Gethin, defended her daughter’s actions, stating, ‘Cressida just had to do it because people weren\u2019t listening to her call to stop travel, plastics, fertilisers, and reliable electric power.’<\/p>\n

However, we argue that the public was perfectly aware of their views but simply disagreed both with bringing poverty by Net Zero and with what they rightly see as extreme measures.<\/p>\n

There were significant disruptions caused by Cressida and her fellow activists when they scaled gantries along the M25 <\/b><\/a>in 2022.<\/p>\n

Their actions led to delayed ambulances and caused thousands to miss flights, medical appointments, exams, funerals, and possibly even weddings.<\/p>\n
