Now what do you think would happen if you replaced the positions of head boy and head girl at a Scottish school with two \u2018gender-neutral\u2019\u2018captains\u2019 and allowed the pupils to vote for the two they preferred out of the three boys and four girls who put themselves forward for the roles?<\/p>\n

You need to know that studies and plain common sense show that in this type of election, girls are willing to vote for boys but boys will typically only vote for other boys.<\/p>\n

So, as the Scottish Daily Express reports<\/b><\/a>, the outcome was that two of the three boys were elected and none of the girls. So a measure which was supposed to be \u2018inclusive\u2019 ended up excluding girls.<\/p>\n
