\"\"<\/a>Christians in the UK are being \u2018driven underground\u2019 and \u2018vilified\u2019 by British judges, former archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey has warned.<\/p>\n

Lord Carey condemned British judges who \u2018consistently applied equality law to discriminate against Christians.\u2019 The result, he warned, is that Christians are being progressively driven out of the public sphere.<\/p>\n

The former archbishop\u2019s remarks form part of a written submission he is presenting to the European Court of Human Rights, in advance of a hearing in Strasbourg on 4 September<\/a> which will look at the cases of various British employees who have been discriminated against in the workplace because of their Christian beliefs.
\nHe will be asking the European Court of Human Rights to intervene to safeguard Britain\u2019s religious freedoms.
\nAmong the concerns he is raising is the fact that believers are being treated as \u2018bigots\u2019, while many face being fired from their jobs simply for expressing their Christian beliefs. He blamed this on a \u2018secular conformity of belief and conduct\u2019 which is resulting in the Christian faith being effectively \u2018banned\u2019 from public.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u2018In a country where Christians can be sacked for manifesting their faith, are vilified by state bodies, are in fear of reprisal or even arrest for expressing their views on sexual ethics, something is very wrong\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n

“Christians are excluded from many sectors of employment simply because of their beliefs; beliefs which are not contrary to the public good”.<\/p>\n
