{"id":1524,"date":"2011-09-28T16:32:42","date_gmt":"2011-09-28T15:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/?p=1524"},"modified":"2025-07-10T09:11:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T08:11:44","slug":"carry-on-preaching-say-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/index.php\/carry-on-preaching-say-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Carry on Preaching, say police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Lancashire-Police.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1525\" style=\"border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Lancashire Police\" src=\"https:\/\/www.christianvoice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Lancashire-Police.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"238\" height=\"98\" \/><\/a>\u00a0After an initial flurry in which two intellectually-challenged policemen from the Lancashire Constabulary told the owner of a Christian cafe in Blackpool that displaying this Bible texts was a breach of public order laws, <a title=\"BBC Report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-lancashire-15072408\" target=\"_blank\">the police have now apologised<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Murray, the owner of the Salt and Light coffeehouse, uses a set of DVDs that display the words of the New Testament on a screen on the cafe&#8217;s back wall.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, two officers from Lancashire Constabulary told Mr Murray that a member of the public had complained about &#8216;homophobic material&#8217; and sid he was in breach of section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.<\/p>\n<p>The police, as the Christian Institute pointed out, &#8216;got the law wrong&#8217;. The cafe can carry on displaying the word of God.\u00a0There is no need, as some are arguing, for a change in the law to remove the word &#8216;insulting&#8217; from the Public Order Act.\u00a0 Atheists are certainly in favour of such a change because of the embarrassment they feel in the face of each new episode of anti-Christian police persecution.<\/p>\n<p>But as <a title=\"Anne Widdecombe in the Daily Express\" href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/posts\/view\/274073\/Christianity-targeted-by-the-police-yet-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ann Widdecombe has pointed out<\/a>, in every case the police have had to back down and pay compensation to those falsely arrested or charged.<\/p>\n<p>With all the pressures from secularists are and the government to legalise gay marriage, the demands of our time in the fields of abortion and sex education, but a continued threat of civil action against Christian hoteliers, surely we have more important things to concern us.<\/p>\n<p>The police are slow learners, but there will come a time when the lowliest officer on the beat actually knows the law and the judgement of thank you Lord Justice Sedley in the case of Alison Redmond-Bate (1999).<\/p>\n<p>The message is clear: &#8216;Carry on Preaching&#8217;!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0After an initial flurry in which two intellectually-challenged policemen from the Lancashire Constabulary told the owner of a Christian cafe in Blackpool that displaying this Bible texts was a breach of public order laws, the police have now apologised.
