Professor John Gowlett – crazy about Darwin and Lucy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Atheists in Manchester are clinging on to Charles Darwin as if he were the fount of all wisdom.<\/p>\n

Each year, says an email, ‘Greater Manchester Humanists put on a Darwin Day event as a major meeting where we invite noted academics to give lectures on cutting edge advances or new insights into the world of science that has been informed by Darwin’s discoveries.’<\/p>\n

Two professors<\/h2>\n

They have found two professors to speak at the meeting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>The meeting will be held on Monday 12th February, Darwin’s birthday, designated ‘Darwin Day’.<\/p>\n

Guy Otten, a ‘humanist celebrant’, chairs the Manchester God-deniers. \u00a0He is also a trustee of the British Humanist Association<\/a>. \u00a0He said: ‘Darwin’s insights are still (amazingly) being denied in the 21st century by people motivated by anti-science founded on religious belief. Supporting and promoting Darwin Day is thus an important step and statement.’<\/p>\n

This is almost a self-parody of the atheist position. \u00a0So shaky is their confidence, they have to denigrate their opponents as ‘anti-science’. \u00a0Actually, it was religious belief that prompted science in the first place. Scientists from the fifteenth century to the present day were, and still are, Christians. \u00a0(Although the term ‘scientist’ was not coined until 1833.) \u00a0Here are just some of them<\/a>.<\/strong> \u00a0But there is a longer list here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Where did ‘laws of nature’ come from?<\/h2>\n

Inquisitive believers wanted to know how God’s creation worked. \u00a0We still do. \u00a0What laws did the Almighty put in place to govern creation? \u00a0In Proverbs chapter eight his law is characterised as ‘wisdom’. \u00a0It declares:<\/p>\n

Prov 8:23 \u00a0I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the laws of physics, chemistry, biology, thermodynamics and so on were not put in place in the beginning, where did they come from? \u00a0What wisdom created them? \u00a0Because, make no mistake, they had to be there or the universe would blow apart.<\/p>\n

One of those is the law of biogenesis<\/a><\/strong>: Life comes only from life. \u00a0Indeed, scientists have only observed life coming from the same kind of life, just as the word of God states in the first chapter of the Bible:<\/p>\n

Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.<\/strong>
\n Gen 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australopithecus<\/h2>\n

One of the speakers at the Darwin Day event is scheduled to be Professor John Gowlett. \u00a0Prof Gowlett holds the degrees of MA PhD FSA FRAI. \u00a0He is Professor of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology at the University of Liverpool<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0The other speaker is zooarchaeologist Prof Keith Dobney BA; MSc; PhD.<\/p>\n

The subject will be: ‘HUMAN EVOLUTION: from Australopithecus to Archaeological Science.’<\/p>\n

‘Australopithecus’ refers to ‘Lucy’. \u00a0Evolutionists have hailed her as the elusive ‘missing link’ between apes and men. \u00a0However, others point out Lucy was actually a extinct \u00a0ape<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0Moreover, they do this from a scientific mindset, evaluating the evidence.<\/p>\n

Dr Gowlett says<\/a><\/strong>: ‘My research interests in human evolution focus especially on the middle times between the ape-like australopithecines and the appearance of Homo sapiens within the last half million years.’<\/p>\n

Anyone with an evolutionary axe to grind must ignore the evidence that Lucy was really an ape. \u00a0Above all, we see that evolutionism is a quasi-religious view. \u00a0It’s a belief’. \u00a0People ‘believe’ Darwin’s Theory, despite modern advances in DNA and molecular biology. \u00a0Biologists defend evolution not because it is true, but because tens of thousands of jobs and reputations depend on it. \u00a0This is blind faith, if anything is.<\/p>\n

The witness of yeast<\/h2>\n

But what of Professor’s Gowlett’s idea that Lucy ‘evolved’ into people ‘within the last half million years’? \u00a0Evolution depends on massive time-scales. \u00a0Any baker or brewer knows about yeast. \u00a0Yeast reproduces every fifteen minutes. \u00a0In broad terms, it goes through 35,000 generations in a year. \u00a0That is the equivalent of 1,000,000 years of human generations. \u00a0But at the end of all that time, it is still yeast. \u00a0It has shown no inclination to become anything else.<\/p>\n

The Carlsberg Brewery in Denmark<\/a><\/strong> still uses the Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis which Emil Hansen purified in 1883. \u00a0Yeast fits into God’s creation just fine as it is. \u00a0In fact, ecologists are only now showing how inter-dependent is the whole of God’s eco-system. \u00a0 This BBC webpage<\/a><\/strong> shows some of the intricate links. \u00a0It all had to be in place ‘in the beginning’.<\/p>\n

Or as the Bible puts it:<\/p>\n

Psalm 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;<\/strong><\/p>\n

Indeed, sometimes we just have to stand in awe of the whole of creation:<\/p>\n

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And to those who purport to know it all, God still asks, as he demanded of Job:<\/p>\n

Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Darwin knew nothing of DNA<\/h2>\n

Charles Darwin knew nothing of DNA or molecular biology<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Darwin himself lived from 1809 to 1882. \u00a0He puiblished ‘On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life’ in 1859.<\/p>\n

In the same year, as this website shows<\/a><\/strong>, Louis Pasteur disproved the theory of ‘spontaneous generation’, popular during Darwin’s lifetime. \u00a0But just-so stories endure. \u00a0Eleven years later, in 1870, Thomas Huxley, ‘Darwin’s bulldog’, proclaimed the ability of life to come from non-life. Furthermore, evolutionists still believe in abiogenesis today. \u00a0They seriously believe life arose from non-life.<\/p>\n

Then ignoring Information Theory they maintain that more complex organisms ‘evolved’ from less complex ones. \u00a0However, molecular biologists have shot down this idea at first post. \u00a0Bacteria do not have the power to evolve into cells with a nucleus. \u00a0And with 1,000 times the DNA of bacteria, those are the building blocks of life. \u00a0We reported on this study here.<\/a><\/strong> \u00a0Now then, how have evolutionists reacted to this evidence? \u00a0They have ignored it.<\/p>\n

Speaking of blind faith, Darwin not only knew nothing of DNA and molecular biology. \u00a0He was also ignorant of microbes. \u00a0Robert Kock only isolated them in 1881. \u00a0He published his research on tuberculosis in the year of Darwin’s death. \u00a0Before that, people believed the disease was inherited.<\/p>\n

Evolutionists are anti-science<\/h2>\n

Despite their bluster, it is the evolutionists who are ‘anti-science’ if anyone is. \u00a0They ignore real scientific advances post-1859. \u00a0They try constantly to force annoying evidence into an evolutionary grid. \u00a0We all do this, because we are fallible human beings. \u00a0But at least we Christians admit it, and frankly, the evidence increasingly supports our position than theirs in any case.<\/p>\n

Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is shaking. \u00a0That’s why Mr Otten speaks despairingly of ‘the need to affirm evolutionary science among your family and friends by inviting them along. This is important in this day and age.’ \u00a0In 2009, the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth, a poll found half of all Britons<\/a><\/strong> do not believe his theory. \u00a0Only 25% went wholeheartedly with Darwin. \u00a0Just last year, according to another poll<\/a><\/strong>, despite 38% of Americans believing equally in creation and some form of God-guided evolution, a mere 19% accepted the atheist position. \u00a0Nevertheless, that figure has doubled in thirty-five years.<\/p>\n

Evangelism<\/h2>\n

Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event will be held from 7.30pm, with doors open at 5.30. \u00a0The venue is Manchester Conference Centre, 78, Sackville Street, Manchester, M1 3BB. \u00a0Tickets are priced on the eventbrite website<\/a><\/strong> at \u00a38 and \u00a35 for the unwaged. \u00a0Christians are unlikely to attend and pour any money into atheist coffers. \u00a0Nevertheless, we should pray. \u00a0Holding prayer at the venue would be useful.<\/p>\n
