Primary legislation is not only unnecessary but would deprive parliament of the opportunity to consider the detail of how this service would develop and evolve.”

Mrs Dorries hailed Milton’s undertaking as a victory. She told the BBC’s Norman Smith: “We lost the battle but we have won the war.” But she criticised the involvement of arch-atheist and ex-MP Evan Harris, who lobbied Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who persuaded David Cameron to withdraw his initial support for the amendment and to announce that health ministers and their parliamentary aides would vote against it.

MPs consequently voted by 368 votes to 118 (a majority of 250) to reject the amendment, but Mrs Dorries managed to win the support of three cabinet ministers – Iain Duncan Smith, the work and pensions secretary, Liam Fox, the defence secretary, and Owen Paterson, the Northern Ireland secretary.

It will now be up to pro-life peers in the House of Lords to try to carry the amendment.

The defeat was welcomed by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, Britains second-biggest abortionist after Marie Stopes. Ann Furedi, its chief executive, said: “Bpas is pleased to see Nadine Dorries’ amendment so overwhelmingly rejected. We look forward to being able to focus our efforts on the issues which pose a genuine problem for women considering ending a pregnancy.” And also continiuing to make money from ending innocent lives.

Strangely, Mrs Dorries insisted that she did not want to restrict access to abortion. “I do not want to return to the days of back street abortionists,” she said. “I am pro-choice. Abortion is here to stay.”

PRAY: That it isn’t. Pray that an MP someday soon will find the courage by the grace of God to bring before the House of Commons a Bill to repeal the Abortion Act 1967. That has never been done in the 44 years since the Act passed into law.

We need your support: Please join Christian Voice

WRITE (or EMAIL): To your MP. Simply ask your MP to ask the Health Minister how the Government intends to implement Nadine Dorries’ amendment. Also ask your MP to assure you that he/she voted for Nadine’s amendment.

READ: Exod 23:7 Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.
Deut 19:10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
Deut 27:25 Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person.
