Christians welcome Pussy Riot convictions and Moscow gay parade ban

Christian Voice Press Release – 17.00 hrs 17th August 2012

Christians welcome Pussy Riot convictions and Moscow gay parade ban.

A Christian group in Britain have welcomed the conviction of members of a so-called ‘punk band’ ‘Pussy Riot’ for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.  Christian Voice has also welcomed the decision of Moscow City Court to ban homosexual parades and criticised the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to award damages to Russian homosexual activist Nikolai Alexeyev.

Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said today:

‘Members of ‘Pussy Riot’ mounted a foul-mouthed dance on the altar of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow.  It was an act of blasphemy with mock prayers to the Virgin Mary.  I don’t pray to Mary, as it happens, but I can recognise an assault on the Christian Faith when I see one.

‘The name ‘Pussy Riot’, if not referring to domestic pets, presumably indicates an intention by those we might in better times describe as the fair sex indulging in acts of public disorder of an indecent nature.

‘Justice should be tempered with mercy, but if a society does not want to see foul-mouthed harridans screaming obscenities in places of worship, the law has to be brought into play to act as a deterrent.

‘When Charlie Gilmour swung on a flag on the Cenotaph, he was given 16 months. Gilmour hadn’t even intended to cause offence; he was just on a drug-fueled rampage, but I didn’t notice Sir Paul McCartney leaping to his defence on that occasion.

‘One has the distinct impression that many of the celebs supporting Pussy Riot in Britain are quite happy to see Christ blasphemed and a church desecrated.  Thank God higher standards apply in other parts of the world.

‘I am also pleased to see Moscow’s ban on gay pride parades upheld.  Here in Britain we take these aggressive, bullying displays of homosexual political muscle for granted.  Across the West, we are becoming daily more crass and our society is disintegrating.  It is heartening that, elsewhere in the world, vestiges of morality still remain.

‘It is a great pity that institutions like the European Court of Human Rights feel that there is a human right to commit sodomy and to parade immorality.  Indeed the whole concept of human rights is degraded by such decisions as awarding damages to homosexual campaigners.’
